"Feeds Shane Long, his first touch is good...He SHOOTS...PUTS SOUTHAMPTON TO WEMBLEY!!!!"

Without turning this into a "look where we are now" thread, what was your reaction when the goal went in?

I watched it on my laptop in a pub in Plymouth and decided I couldn't watch anymore on about 85 minutes so I went to the bar and kept letting people go ahead of me because I wanted to stall it so I didn't have to go back and see what was going on. I was literally shaking.

Then when I was up there, I had a quick look at this place and saw all the "YESSSSSSS" comments, rushed back to my seat and screamed the place down at seeing 0-1 (0-2) on the screen. Then I couldn't sleep, thankfully was off work the next day and literally spent the first hour of the day, pacingup and down my bedroom and watching the goal over and over again before deciding to pop to the shop and get a load of beer in celebration. And spent the day drinking and watching that goal!

This is why I'm glad we're not a big club because you just don't get highs like that. Couple of United fans at work and one of them didn't even bother getting the day off to watch the final and couldn't understand why I was so delighted.

Well the final was their FOURTH trip to Wembley in less than the space of 12 months- that was ours since 2010, and a first major final since 2003!

(FA Cup Semi-final + Final 2016) + (Community Shield 2016) + (League Cup Final 2017)

Regardless, was lucky to be there for that goal at Anfield, probably best atmosphere of all last season after the final-and Long's goal is far more dramatic with Titanic music in the background ;)

Exactly. I'd hate for Wembley trips to be a routine (Well I kinda guess with Spurs playing there it kinda is for everyone).

o

Everytime that comes up on the screen pre match you can't stop thinking about that video.

The second time I'd seen Josh Sims play and he'd impressed me on both occasions. Great run and pass, (Something Redmond had failed to do in the 80 minutes previous...) and actually a decent touch and finish from Long. Always good to get one over on the Scousers.

Watching at home. Tense beyond all sense and reason. Thinking we had done just about enough to hold on only for Sims and Long to send me into Orbit. The noise must have been heard for miles..... Mind you, I think I heard a house just across the road also screaming in delight.

At work the next day I couldn't stop smiling, knowing we had a cup final to look forward to in the very same season we had already been to the San Siro!

I was at a work conference at the casino in the Ricoh Arena. The only Saints fan there but a few Liverpool fans. I remember going absolutely mental when Long scored then putting £20 on 7 on the Roulette in his honour (high roller, I know!) but the little bugger came in, making it an even better night. I don't remember much else after that...

I was going f*cking mental in the away end, ended up rows down from where i started and with various wounds on my legs. Wouldn't change it for the world, one of the best goal celebrations i've ever been in and a cracking night on the p*ss until about 4am after.

Was about as tense as I can remember from the minute I woke up. Work was a write-off, all I thought about was the game

Was watching wit my dad at home, and it was without a doubt the most mental I've gone when not in the stands. Felt pretty lightheaded after. Felt like I'd been waiting all my life for a goal like that.

Was in the afternoon here so I bunked off work early and spent a tense 90 mins on the couch expecting the worst but hoping for the best. When Long scored I went ****ing mental. I'm not sure if any of my neighbors were home at the time but they don't speak to me anyway so I don't care if they heard (or what they thought was going on ).

Then I got supper started and had a few pints to celebrate.

It couldn't have happened against a better team, only perhaps the skates.

I'd begrudge them getting that far tbh. It'd only be something else they'd never shut the hell up about, even if we DID knock them out they'd for some reason still brag about it. Very odd bunch.

I was watching on a stream at home but it was very unreliable. Going into the final moments and Liverpool got a corner, and the stream froze and continually buffered with the Pool player about to take the corner. Next thing I know, I heard the goal sound effect from Bet365 which I had open in a separate window. My heart sank as I assumed that Liverpool had scored from the corner. When I clicked on the Bet365 tab to look at the update, it took me quite some time to register that it was us who had scored and not them!

OMG that must have been hellish...then great! What a roller coaster.

Went to the home leg but had to make do with watching the away leg on my Sky Mobile app. IIRC, because the video is a bit delayed, I remember seeing a couple of whatsapp messages show up at the top of the screen which hinted we might have scored. That obviously took the edge off the surprise, but when it went in and had I seen it with my own eyes I'm pretty sure I did a mixture of skipping and leaping around with some hysterical shouts. Then my joy turned to worry as I realised I was going to have to try and change my flights and cut a holiday short - firstly, whether it was possible, and secondly whether the missus would be ok with it. It was (at a price), and she was (after a few months of apologising...) :-)

Haha, I can totally imagine that - streams have a habit of freezing just when there seems to be a chance on... Must've been a little bit annoying at the same time not seeing it in real time though. I had a similar feeling receiving messages from friends (not even Saints fans) who were a few seconds ahead of me. As much as it was great, it would have been better without a spoiler!

I was half way up right behind the goal win my son.

I have never, ever gone as mental at a goal as I did that night. Never.

I still have the bruises.

Looking at my son, who had tears streaming down his cheeks as we stood on our seats singing Que Sera Sera, will live with me forever.

& to think that so many sad sacks decided not to go as they said we'd get stuffed.

I'd say part of what made it extra special was so many of our "fans" not bothering to attend because we'd "definitely lose". Was great not to have them attend, ensuring a good atmosphere in the away section.

One of the best away atmosphere's i've been in, non stop noise from us lot the whole way through and absolute chaos when Long scored. Personally couldn't understand why anyone who could go didn't, how many semi finals do we actually get to?

It wasn't so much the volume of my reaction as Long's strike went in, so much as the fact that I didn't know human beings were capable of such a sound.

I also ended mere inches from the TV, having been sat on the sofa moments before (and it's a fairly wide room!) To this day I couldn't piece together those lost few seconds for you.

I still think the goal with Solent commentary is best. It seems to be deleted online.

To think we got rid of Puel after that, it really is laughable

I do have it but I don't know how to upload it onto here from my phone , Disagree about Puel (as much as that was one of my best ever nights as a saints fan) just his replacement is even worse !

Then, purely for balance, let us see highlights of the away Europa games in Beer Sheva and Prague. The home games against WBA, Spurs, Norwich and Arsenal (in the FA Cup) West Ham, Bournemouth, Man City, Hull, Arsenal, Man Utd and Stoke.

Still laughing?

If only we could play Arsenal reserves every week. Puel would be king.

He also had 15 days to prepare for the cup final vs Man united 3 days..... Still ****ed it up

There's been a season in the top flight where we haven't had a multitude of poor performances?
