same for everyone though. We are not the only side to pay wages, agents, fees.

we appear to be the only side in the prem that requires to sell before buying. Net spend champions year after year

Yes because every team has exactly the same out goings and costs and exactly the same income don't they? I guess you've checked out the latest accounts of every PL team to check that....

You’re right they don’t, we’re a lot better off then most of the orhers. In fact We were the 18th highest earning club in Europe in 2016/17, haven’t seen the 17/18 figures, I guess they’re not out now. Yet people make excuses for us having to fund our transfers by selling players because we have have to agents fees to pay, it’s laughable.

All will be revealed with the next financial statements. Where do you think the money has gone?

Who said agents fees? what about up keep of the stadium, up keep of the training ground, players wages, non playing staff wages, utility bills and a whole host of other **** I probably haven't even thought of? Now yes all clubs will have these but no doubt these outgoings vary by club unless you think every club has the same out going costs? Giving me the earning of clubs doesn't help if we don't know what the out goings are.

I have no idea if the club is just sitting on piles of cash they are refusing to spend but the idea on here that all the TV money is available to just splash on new players seems simplistic in the extreme.

1) What exactly is a "corner shop mentality"?

2) What other types of financial mentalities are there?

3) Which is the best financial mentality and why?

You seriously don’t know the term ‘corner shop mentality’. Do me a favour, instead of using the internet to post on a football forum, or exercise your w*nking spanner’s, look it up on google.

How many times have we seen this line trotted out to "defend" the club over the years?

At first it was to due to corteses over spending, we had to be frugal because of that, which I got. The last two or three years really it's incredible that year after year we make a profit from the transfer market, we have glaring holes in our squad and people put the line out "yeah but there are wages, contracts, agents fees, bonuses....." Like we are the only club that has to pay these things out. We aren't, every other club has these too but no other club has consistently sold so many players and made so much profit from transfers. Don't we even pride ourselves on keeping agents fees low? I've certainly seen a lot of backslapping in the past about how great it is we don't let agents take the p*ss.

the long and short of it is we are back to being run exactly the same way as were when we were Southampton Leisure Holdings PLC. Can only spend in transfers what we bring In, selling off quality and replacing them with cheaper alternatives leaving us and buying in "ones for the future/squad" with a bloated squad full of average players where you cant pick a best eleven, because there aren't any players apart from one or two that stand out.

On the button - Shanghai Leisure Holdings.

Any different / better than Pied? He was brought in as a versatile right back - would rather save the dough to put towards a (predominantly) forward player, especially considering how well Targett did in his right wing back cameo yesterday.

Maybe a bit of forward planning though. Cedric has this season plus next under contract. We would be looking for him to sign an extension this summer or be sold by next summer.

To those who say we really going to miss Boufal this season my response would be that we really missed him last season.

His loan to Celta Vigo doesn't really move the needle much when evaluating this year's club against last year's club.

So, a few days left with these pieces to resolve:

1. Addition of a quality attacker (but no real rumours at the moment and clear messages we need to sell before we buy).

Chance of getting someone (IMO): 4/10

2. Sort out RB/RWB situation where we currently have zero available specialists. Might mean selling Cedric (something going on) and replacing, meaning backup will come from within the squad by playing someone out of position. Seems ludicrous to me when you can have 25 players to only have one player for one key position. Cedric could be sold after the deadline if it is to somewhere else in Europe.

3. Get rid of our highest paid player, who coincidentally is our 3rd choice GK. Will likely be on loan, if at all, with us still paying the majority of his wages, the same as with Boufal and Carillo. Could happen after the deadline if he is being loaned elsewhere in Europe.

4. Loan out players who will not feature much this season like Sims (barely played in pre season), Hesketh (needs experience of playing against men) etc

--------------------------

Current window rating: 6/10

Agree with Hesketh but I don't see the value in loaning out Sims (From a selfish point of view more than for his own benefit). We're fairly short in attacking midfield as it is after Elyounoussi, Armstrong and Redmond, and Sims doesn't count towards a squad place. If we do bring another AM in though, then a loan would be good for him, as I think he has a promising future.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claiming that Napoli close to agreeing a deal with Lille for Kevin Malcuit.

Napoli trying to close deal for Malcuit: the latest

In recent weeks Napoli have been focused on giving Ancelotti another option at the wingback position, and they could close the deal for Kevin Malcuit today. The partenopei have never been closer to landing the defender born in ‘91, the deal could be reached on the basis of €10 million with Malcuit agreeing to a four year contract.

Hughes post match saying we are likely done.

IMO staying up has to be the aim this season. We have a very average squad that is poor in both defence and attack.

Will be hammered by some teams I think.

Eventually lack of investment in the first XI takes its toll. Our team this season will be the weakest since promotion.

(Whilst Bmth splash out £25m on a midfielder, without selling anyone).

Wonder what our net spend is vs Bournemouth's since they got promoted to the Premier League...

Imagine we will only get more incomings if Forster can be shifted. Probably shouldn’t have signed Gunn until after Forster was gone.

Hopefully knowing he won’t even be in the squad will be enough for him to want to leave?

Would you leave if you was training 4 times a week and earning just under a 100k a week?

You have to factor in wages though.

It seems like most clubs who get promoted and do well go on a downward curve eventually. Swansea have gone now. We're struggling. If Bournemouth and Burnley lose Howe and Dyche they'll go the same way. It's very hard to maintain things when you lose the core team that got promoted

Can't imagine wages are that much of a massive factor now. I reckon Bournemouth have spent much more than us when you take away the money we have made from player sales, should they be able to? No. Purse strings are tight at St. Mary's and have been for the last four years. No one sells like we do.

Liverpool prepared to loan out Origi. If we arent prepared to spend any more pennies then this could be a good option

Four years ago after the WC in Brazil Origi was considered a sensational prospect. Not sure what has happened to him since.

Then again, four years ago Luke Shaw was probably considered nailed on to be England's LB for the next decade.
