This will more than likely be the end of America as the world’s superpower. Their economy won’t cope

Coupled with Trump’s insular world view and infantile selfishness, another four years of him and their global status is certainly diminished.

If they don’t all return to work around the 13th, 14th or 15th it’ll already be too late and their economy will (highly likely) be done for. That’s why Trump is saying they’ll be back to work by Easter, they cannot afford not to.

The dead will be largely those drawing pensions and on Medicare - two of the most substantial Federal costs. Wouldn't be surprised if Trump sees that as a windfall

Not sure if you in the UK got to hear this gem. The presidents re-election campaign has been sending cease and desist letters to TV stations that have been airing an advert playing Trump talking about the outbreak alongside a timeline of cases. No comments, no one elses words.

Trying to intimididate media from playing his own words back breaks all kinds of things. I talk to people here who agreed with him when he said it was false and a hoax and overblown and now deny he ever said these things.

He said the US was going to keep winning, so much winning we would get tired of winning. Right now USA is No 1 in infection cases and I am sick of all the winning.

It's a great advert, ramming home how out of his depth he's been in the last few weeks. The war against the virus (and the 'inevitable' victory) will be his main campaign platform. Of course he's sh!tting himself now.

At yesterday's daily Covid presser, he talked about the war on cocaine smuggling and how he was winning that. Cheers Don!

No matter what he does, or what happens out there, Trump will still win as long as Fox News support him. That is absolutely where his fanbase go for facts and it's pretty much their sole source for news they are willing to believe. They will spin every event in his favour and paint everything negative as someone else's fault.

Did anyone see the side by side criticism they had of Obama reacting to ebola and Trump reacting to covid? There is just no logic or impartiality.

Any victory will be down to the Governors who wagged the fight in the absence of a centralized response. Places like Ohio and New York have had governors very active in their response. they have been decisive, not always right but doing what they thought had to be done. In West Virginia even though there were barely any cases, but surrounded by states where it was growing, took pro active steps to prevent the spread into the area. I am worried about those states (like my old state Iowa) that did not act promptly, being a reservoir to re-infect the other states that went through the economic pain of stringent measures.

And then on the sacrifice and leadership of others Trump will claim he did it all himself.

I think my Trump loving office mate finally gets it. He told me that his brothers neighbor in his 40s with no underlying health issues succumbed to the virus. With it occurring within someone's sphere of personal knowledge, who was initially denying it was serious, the realization that this was bungled might be dawning, how sad that this is the cost of entitlement.

A poem by Donald Trump [actually it's verbatim from a speech of his last December]

I never understood wind.

You know, I know

windmills very much.

I have studied it

better than anybody

else. It’s very expensive.

They are made in China

and Germany mostly.

—Very few made here, almost none,

but they are manufactured, tremendous

—if you are into this—

tremendous fumes. Gases are

spewing into the atmosphere. You know

we have a world

right?

So the world

is tiny

compared to the universe.

So tremendous, tremendous

amount of fumes and everything.

You talk about

the carbon footprint

— fumes are spewing into the air.

Right? Spewing.

Whether it’s in China,

Germany, it’s going into the air.

It’s our air

their air

everything — right?

A windmill will kill many bald eagles.

After a certain number

they make you turn the windmill off.

That is true.

—By the way

they make you turn it off.

And yet, if you killed one

they put you in jail.

That is OK.

You want to see a bird graveyard?

You just go.

Take a look.

A bird graveyard.

Go under a windmill someday,

you’ll see

more birds

than you’ve ever seen

in your life.

~ D. Trump

He's nutty as a fruitcake. He is the nuttiest fruitcake around.

He’s now fired the independent official tasked with spending the federal US bailout. Has also been firing senior naval officers raising COVID according to the NY Times.

As for Fox News, their presenters and stories make a David Icke YouTube webinar look sane. The same people watch it, vote for Trump are the same type of IQ level as the idiots setting fire to 5G masts in this country. Would swallow anything they were told if it fits their nutty worldview.

Isn't it predominantly freight carrying essential goods?

Yep, I idly looked at FlightRadar on my phone last night, and all the very few flights were cargo, FedEx and the like.

In the meantime, have we seen the OP recently or has he seen the light? It looks like the Darwin Awards are going to have to do a mass team edition..

All the politicians, millionaire liberal "luvvies", middle class European sheep and most of the rest, were wrong about Trump. I liked him when I first read "Art of the Deal" back in 1987. Anyone that rubs politicians up the wrong way and is well on the way to achieving world peace, fair treatment for American workers and jobs for minorities is OK by me.

It just shows what a successful businessman can do, compared to a career politician.

I look forward to the Nobel Prize presentation...

The OP.

Hilarious.

It's good to see that even the New York Times is backing Trump's position on covid-19.

Trump Slammed the W.H.O. Over Coronavirus. He’s Not Alone.

President Trump unleashed a tirade against the World Health Organization on Tuesday, accusing it of acting too slowly to sound the alarm about the coronavirus. The W.H.O. has not pushed China on early missteps. When cases of a mysterious viral pneumonia first appeared in Wuhan in December, Chinese health officials silenced whistle-blowers and repeatedly played down the severity of the outbreak. Even as late as mid-January, as the virus spread beyond China’s borders, Chinese officials described it as “preventable and controllable” and said there was no evidence it could be transmitted between humans on a broad scale. The W.H.O. endorsed the government’s claims, saying in mid-January, for example, that human-to-human transmission had not been proven. Critics say the organization’s repeated deference to Beijing exacerbated the spread of the disease. A group of international experts was not allowed to visit Wuhan until mid-February. “They could have been more forceful, especially in the initial stages in the crisis when there was a cover-up and there was inaction,” said Yanzhong Huang, a global health expert specializing in China at Seton Hall University.

About time someone realised WHO screwed up big time. With the NYT on board, he will walk into a second term without a problem. Great news for a world that will need him and Boris to lead a global economic recovery together, while the EU disintegrates. Meanwhile, the liberals and socialists on here are totally devoid of leaders and sounding very bitter. They must be missing Jo Swinson and Jezza...

Oh FFS, the WHO is a group for sharing information and coordinating international action, not singlehandedly fighting every disease known to man. In the above comment about human to human was not proven this is scientist speak aimed at other scientist. This is how we speak to each other, what it says is we do not know, not that it does not occur, it would be interpreted by another scientist who understands the terms of art and communicated into language that non professionals can understand to inform there actions. For people to take scientifically accurate statements and then take the everyday meaning of those words is part of the problem. Like how the word theory has a different definition when used in a science context than what the average person understands by the term, hence all the problem with the anti evolution rhetoric "its just a theory".

You think a sociopathic liar with dementia will do a good job?

I won't be surprised if he wins because for some reason the Democrats want a candidate that makes him look young (even though he can't stand up straight, read for more than about 20 seconds or speak coherently) and he will cheat brazenly and lie constantly throughout the campaign.

Putting him up there in front of a small stand-up audience and letting him vocalise every crazy thought is just wrong.

It's getting to feel cruel now, like paying half a crown for a family day of merriment at the asylum.

The poor man should be allowed some dignity - at the moment he has none, and every time he opens his mouth something ludicrous spills out.

Ah well Guided Missile reckons that Trump is on course for a Nobel Prize.

Its difficult to think who is the more deluded out of the two of them.

Trump does what other governments fear to do and pulls funding from the Marxist WHO, China's lapdog. Truly a leader the world needs and together with Boris, (continuing to play a blinder), will ensure the UK and the US will rebound. China and the EU will both sink without a trace....

I have a feeling it will be a great Xmas this year, for the survivors, who will not forget their continuing debt to the scientific and healthcare community. #dontforgetwhatchinadid

JANUARY 31, 2020 Trump bans foreign nationals who have traveled to China from entering the US. There's a mandatory quarantine, too.

Any foreign national who has traveled within China in the last 14 days will not be allowed to enter the United States, according to a proclamation from President Trump. The action is to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, said US Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar. Azar also said that he was declaring a public health emergency in the US. The new coronavirus has sickened nearly 10,000 people worldwide in nearly two dozen countries, and it has killed 213 people in China.

FEBRUARY 3, 2020 WHO chief says widespread travel bans not needed to beat China virus

World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday there was no need for measures that unnecessarily interfere with international travel and trade in trying to halt the spread of a coronavirus, that has killed 361 people in China.

So what? Did Trump's ban stop the disease? It was already in the US then. Subsequently, of course, he said cases would soon drop to zero and it would disappear like a miracle.

You're such easy fodder for people like him. Useful idiots.

That's right. A useful idiot scientist, who worked with the WHO, helping to combat river blindness. River blindness is a disease caused by onchocerciasis, which was brought under control in West Africa through the work of the Onchocerciasis Control Programme (OCP), I and my company was part of. The program used mainly the spraying of insecticides against blackfly larvae (vector control) by helicopters and airplanes. (I charged f-all for the work I carried out in the Ivory Coast, btw). The helicopters were flown mainly by Vietnam veterans. I flew a number of spraying operations at about 20 metres above the rapids. Those US pilots were f***ing fearless and they lost a couple a year.

Read about it here and learn something from a useful idiot. This useful idiot can also see that the villains are China and the WHO, not Trump. Just to remind you of the work of the WHO, defined by its Constitution. The core functions of the WHO is divided into three categories:

  1. Normative functions, including international conventions and agreements, regulations and non-binding standards and recommendations;
  2. Directing and coordinating functions, including its health for all, poverty and health, and essential medicine activities and its specific disease programs;
  3. Research and technical cooperation functions, including disease eradication and emergencies.

You may notice that nowhere does the WHO core functions do not involve concerns about international travel and trade, at least before they became China's lapdog, who's main concerns ARE international travel and trade, and obviously NOT cooperation functions, including disease eradication and emergencies.

Read the above a couple of times, mate. You may learn something....
