James Maddison

Norwich fan here....If you get Maddison, and its a big if at the moment, then you’ve got yourself a great player.

Rarely do you see a player so obviously possess so much natural talent and look head and shoulders above the rest of the players on a regular basis. No doubt about it, he’s the real deal, and comparisons to Lallana’s style our fair but with the added bonus of Ward-Prowses delivery on set pieces. He’s also a level-headed lad who will want to play every game and progress and not just move for the money, hence a move to yourselves or Leicester is more likely than Everton. Although talk this end is that Harrison Reed has made the negotiations easier for you than Leicester.

Strengths:

- Drop of the shoulder turns

- Short to medium passing

- Corners and Set pieces always on the money

- Free Kick specialist

- Confident and cocky on the pitch in a good way

- Always wants to learn to get better

- best in central no. 10 role

Weaknesses:

- Thin frame but getting stronger

- Gets fouled alot but looks for free kicks too much sometimes

Overall, a cracking player, and will definitely be a success for a Top 10 club. Enjoy.

Thanks

Thanks for the input.

I had hoped Reed would progress with us but his chances with us will be very limited with Lemina,Hojbjerg,Romeu and Davis in front of him.

Seems like this deal could suite both parties we get a goalscoring creative no.10 we have needed for at least 2 years and you get Harrison Reed, just hope we put in a buy back clause [emoji6]

That's a very positive view and thanks for taking the time to write it and post it here. You're probably like us with Harrison Reed in wanting him to do well, and if we do some sort of deal on the two I imagine both sets of fans would be reasonably happy?

Cheers. How is he defensively? Does he track back? When it comes to a no.10 or player in the hole, we’ve tended to go safety first, so it would be a bonus if he’s prepared to roll his sleeves up.

Personally will be amazed if we win a bidding war like this.

The entire ethos of the club is designed to not win them and then smugly pat ourselves on the back for "doing things differently".

Les and Ralph will take not signing him as a badge of honour.

What a great signing Maddison would be! Is our recruitment back on track again? This is the first really positive sign for a long time. If the rumours about Gibson are also true then this could be our most positive transfer window since 2015. Perhaps Gao is not such a bad owner after all.

We do our business quietly and won't get dragged into a public bidding war. We leave that circus to other clubs.

Maybe Les found one of Paul Mitchell's transfer shortlists down the back of the sofa when he was taking an afternoon nap in the office aka the bridge of the starship enterprise.

I expect us to be gazumped on this now its out in the open.

So prepare for disappointment:

If he goes to Leicester, we will be told that as a midlands lad originally he wanted to return there, if it's West Ham then it'll be "we weren't prepared to match obscene wages, but that we didn't really want him anyway, he's not that good and our approach was only Les asking hypothetically, if we did make a bid would he be available..". Les will then tell us he's relaxed, we have 41 scouts scouring Europe.... all of whom are currently in Russia along with Les drawing up a shortlist of players we can't realistically afford, or who would not dream of joining us.

Or maybe Les doesn't have the Same power as he used to now the clubs directorship is more than just him, and there are more directors accountable.

All that bo11ocks talk started with Les. We were very aggressive under Little Nic when it came to competing for players wanted by other clubs.

Slightly different circumstances though its a lot easier to beat the competition to player signings when you are saints in league 1 (or even the championship) its not like PL Southampton can just go out and poach the leagues top scorer like we did in league one.

A prospect like Maddison is hardly going to be a stealth signing not ‘out in the open’. Don’t think Leicester and his agent suddenly wake up when theyvisit the Sun rumours website. I can’t see us getting him either so not getting my hopes up.

Wouldn't get to excited (I would like to) but personally lack little confidence if les is envolved,we have to many (nailed on deals) that have never materialised, perfect timing to encite season ticket sales, without any confirmed commitment, potential same spin we been served for a few years now.

At the end of the day, bids are bit of a red herring, the player will choose. Leicester have already made two decent signings and are midlands based which likely gives them an advantage.

But Saints have a good record (albeit not of late) of boosting careers of high potential players.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out, but I will be suprised if he picks us over them.

Relax, he will sign for Leicester. Spoke to his mate the other day and he 100% wants the move back to the midlands. Norwich want as much as they can hence the leaked ‘Southampton and Everton interest

a few seem pretty confident on Foxes Talk.......that quote above could be just garbage mind. Their KenyanFox so to speak

If he goes to Leicester, Les will chalk it up as a ‘lifestyle choice’ like when Theo went to Everton.

Just wait till Les gives him a signed copy of the official FA guide to basic team coaching.

Time for Les to earn his cheddar...

Well that is quite obvious is it not surprisingly lots of top class footballers don't want to play for SFC but I think it is positive that we are going to talk to him as our bid meets Norwich's expectation but yes he may not come here

Its alot of money to pay for someone thats only had one decent season thus far.

Norwich buy him then he goes back on loan, was at aberdeen on loan.

We need proven players right now and i hope he fits the bill

A club like ours has to take chances on unproven players. Proven PL players will go to the bigger clubs unless we're prepared to gamble serious money, which (quite rightly) we're not.
