Recommended Posts

Total Saints Podcast - sponsored by http://www.happyhottubs.co.uk - dusts itself off and returns for a brand new season, with the first Episode (39) of the 2018-19 campaign.

Ben Stanfield (host) is joined by long-term sidekick Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer, Daily Echo) and new panel member Steve Grant (Owner of SaintsWeb), to look at all things Saints!

You can listen to the Podcast (new or previous Episodes) here:

The season hasn't officially kicked off yet, so instead discussion in Ep. 39 covers the pre-season trips to China and France, transfer window dealings so far (ins/outs) and also what Saints may (or may not!) do before it shuts on the 9th August.

After riding every inch of the Premier League survival rollercoaster last season, hopes are that this year will be a little more uneventful! But this is Saints, and we all know they rarely do uneventful....

Thanks and look forward to hopefully keeping you all entertained again this season!

Cheers

Ben

Thanks SuperSAINT! Hope you're well.

Yes mate. All good.

Excellent listen & glad you're back. I'd have been happy with 45 mins more transfer chat :D

Steve's a good addition to the gang. Will you be getting extra guests through the season? Always thought Adam Blackmore would be a good one to get.

Great pod.

Interesting that Adam, who is usually less reactionary than fans are, feels we haven't really added enough quality to improve the first XI (yet) as much as is needed.

Also that he pretty much expected Les Reed to go over the summer.

Great listen as always.

Maybe it's a generation thing, but I still don't get podcasts, it's like listening to the table next to you in a pub enjoying a chat!? Hey ho.

Nor me. It’s like blogs. People who think they are a bit better than everyone else giving their opinion which they think is so important everyone else wants to hear it.

Depends who's doing the podcast, if they're well informed and the presenters make a decent point they can be interesting. Not sure I get the point of blogs though, why not just post your thoughts on a forum?

What I really find odd are these matchday Vlogs. The ones taken on the backwards facing camera during the match, so you just get 10 minutes looking at someone's nostril hair whilst they give a vague description of the corner they've just won. Can't imagine how irritating it must be to stand next to someone like that during a game.

I can only speak for myself/our Podcast, but its definitely not about believing my/our opinion is 'important' for everyone to hear at all.

Its simply about being a beloved Saints fan of 30+ years, who enjoys talking about/promoting our Club/City (with a couple of good mates!) for people around the World to listen to if they wish. It takes a lot of time to record/edit/produce/upload, and I think many do enjoy it.

But ultimately listening to any Podcast(s) isn't compulsory

I wish someone would make a podcast out of just reading saintsweb threads. Uplifting an joyous listening.

I listen to a few football podcasts but generally better for Adam and Joe, Richard Herring etc. Even Frank Skinner is very funny and is just conversation but with witty people

We'll see how the But hopefully that'll mean its a little snappier/convenient for anyone wishing to listen.

Adam B has always shown an openness to coming on the Podcast, but we've never quite managed to firm up a time/date with him (mainly due to his hectic schedule with Solent).

There aren't any immediate plans to hassle him for an appearance, but if the opportunity naturally presents itself, then we'd definitely look to make it happen, yes.

I was confused when I got to work before it finished (it normally takes me an hour) I thought I'd made record time!

Evening All,

The Total Saints Podcast team - Ben, Adam and Steve - resume Saints-related discussion in Episode 40 (for those who wish to listen to it)

With pre-season now completed, after a win against Celta de Vigo and a disappointing 3-0 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach, its full steam ahead towards Burnley next weekend, and the opening day Premier League fixture.

We reflect on Saints' overall preseason campaign, calling out some of the individuals who've impressed, as well as preview the St. Mary's visit of the Clarets.

Sandwiched in the middle, listeners answer our "if you had one wish for Saints this season, what would it be?" question. There's a range of hopes on that, including the panel's themselves. But will any come true? Who knows!

Its another action packed Podcast this week, in Episode 41 of Total Saints Podcast

Steve, Adam and myself chat about pyrotechnics, a fairly drab 0-0 draw for Saints in their Premier League opener against Burnley, the end of the transfer window (keeping Adam on his toes, as Danny Ings signed very late in the day!) and also preview the tough looking away trip to Marco Silva's Everton next weekend.

Its another content-packed edition of TSP this week - Episode 42.

Few things in life are guaranteed - but Saints failing to pick up 3 points at Goodison Park feels like one of them! And so it proved again in this past weekend, as Everton came out 2-1 winners.

Steve, Adam and Ben discuss the performance against The Toffees, and also look ahead to the next encounter for Saints, at home to Claude Puel's Leicester City.

In between, the guys reflect on the St. Mary's Fans Forum last week - including the performance of both Ralph Krueger (Chairman) and Les Reed (Vice-Chairman of Football).

What exactly did they make of Thursday's face-to-face with the fans? Well, you'll have to listen to find out.....

Great listen as always. Thanks for keeping me entertained whilst at the hospital!

Particularly enjoyed Adam talking about the forum & his view on Ralph crumbling & Gao's ownership.

Thanks SuperSAINT. Thought Adam's views were very honest/respectful.

Hope (in light of hospital comment) all is OK.

All is well, Ben. Thanks.

Yeah, I thought the Ralph comments were insightful from Adam as he's seen him at close quarters before. I pretty much agree with him on Gao as well. Ralph literally covers the same bases every time when talking about the new ownership.

Thanks to all who make the effort to do a saints pod, but I think you guys have the best one - well done and thank you.

Steve G and Adam L are overqualified to talk about Saints, so that is a great base to start from.

Nitpicking but not a fan of the bastardised OWTSGMI!

This week's Podcast - Episode 43 - is now available to listen to (should you wish)

Like many from last season, we talk about Saints throwing away points, via a last minute goal, in a game they largely controlled (at least for the first 55 minutes anyway!). Sigh.

Adam Leitch, Steve Grant and Ben Stanfield talk about the disappointing 2-1 defeat to Leicester, and preview both the Brighton and Crystal Palace fixtures this coming week.

On a lighter note, thankfully, Ben also catches up with former Saints' Senior Strength & Conditioning Coach, Nick Harvey, to reminisce about more enjoyable times. The days of Nigel Adkins, Rickie Lambert, Wembley visits, promotions and the advancement of fitness technology/methods for elite sportsman/sportswoman. Nick also answers an interesting question, on sporting endurance/cramps, from one of our listeners.

PlayerFM: https://bit.ly/2whxnFp

We’re also available on Google Podcasts, via the Google Play Store!

Another important week ahead of Saints now. Really hoping the next Podcast will give us something different to 'sing about'....

Thanks, as always, to those of you on SWF who take the time to listen.

Cheers

A win - an actual Premier League win!

Yes, Episode 44 of Total Saints Podcast was out last evening, with Adam, Ben and Steve having a rare 3 points too, if we're absolutely honest, complete wallow about! (Note: Steve, as expected, refuses to get more carried away than he needs too! )

In the Podcast we talk about all the ins and outs from the match at Crystal Palace, and also reflect on Alex McCarthy's call-up to the England squad.

Ben also can't let Quincy Promes' move to Sevilla pass without asking Adam whether Saints really were keen on him and/or whether it was just a smokescreen for a frankly dreadful January transfer window!

Lastly, the Episode includes a TSP Fantasy Premier League update - which hopefully a few of you are partaking in.

You can find the Podcast via your favourite Pod provider, including:

acast: https://bit.ly/2LYM7ho

iTunes: https://apple.co/2OuQJys

SoundCloud: https://bit.ly/2wHHWBO

Can Saints now push on from here, or do the guys think the International Break has come at just the wrong time? You'll have to listen (if you wish too) to find out!

Thanks

Ben

The International break is over, and Total Saints Podcast is back, with Episode 45 out now.

Sadly, almost as predictably as Saints self-destruction at Anfield, we're back to talking about failing to hold a lead and throwing away points! The modern 'Southampton Way'. Like the film Groundhog Day, as Steve reminds us in the Pod! (One for the older film fans there)

Anyway, should you decide your want to, then you can listen to the Podcast here:

SoundCloud: https://bit.ly/2Ib8ZKy

acast: https://bit.ly/2IcLPDy

iTunes: https://apple.co/2OuQJys

We chat Brighton, L*verpool, Wolves, pre-match light shows, Hojbjerg thunderbolts and zonal flipping marking!

Anyway, onwards to Molineux - where Steve also thinks it'll be some game...!

Episode 46 of Total Saints Podcast is available for you to listen to now (if you'd like too).

With so many similarities cropping up every week (i.e. defending poorly and not winning football matches!), we break up the monotony this week by talking about Saints in the USA.

Joe Prince-Wright (NBC Sports & big Saints fan) joins Adam, Ben and Steve to talk about Wolves, Everton, Chelsea and of course 'brand America' - in particular whether Gao's Chinese takeover has thrown a potential spanner in Ralph Krueger's US dream....

Paul Cox, a Hampshire lad who is now based in Nebraska, talks about his involvement with the Club's North American Partnership - offering coaching and education to a select group of teams/youngsters across the States.

iTunes: https://bit.ly/2NfjTQm

acast: https://bit.ly/2P3mtun

SoundCloud: https://bit.ly/2NfjTQm

No doubting it'll be nice to have a win to talk again soon - maybe even a draw!

Sigh....

Evening All,

The latest Podcast - Episode 47 is out now.

I'll cut the glamourous sales pitch out - but, rest assured, it does features (more) discussion about questionable tactics and defending by Saints!

If you want to listen then great. Its only 33 minutes - although Adam isn't on this week (he was 'lucky' enough to miss the game on Sunday!).

If you don't, we understand. Its painful enough watching it all without us then reminding you.

The Podcast is surprisingly polite about the failure of most of this summer's recruits. Just being concerned that the poor darlings may lose heart sitting in the stand. Not raising the question as to whether the summer transfers were, in the main, poor choices on top of Carillo and moving onto question what was going wrong with the player recruitment.

Thanks for the feedback. Whilst agreeing with you to a certain level, we’re also only 8 games into the season, and our Podcast tries not to overreact at each and every opportunity (on any subject, including recruitment) like some may. We do try to remain level-headed and consider all pros and cons.

Thanks for listening

Honourable feedback. I recognise the need for a thorough analysis of a game. 8 games maybe early, but it is on top of a poor 24+ months and 3 poor years of transfers. The risk your approach runs is focusing mainly on the tactical and pointing the finger at the Manager who can only pick from the squad provided. Puel and Pellig both fired for their perceived failure and Hughes now being lined up for a firing. Perhaps a future podcast could look at what has happened to the supply of players from the Academy?

Also it is about time the Daily Echo did more in depth articles analysing:-

1. Past 3+ years of transfers in

2. Performance of the Academy in recent years. (players for first team and England all years appearances).
