Hughes Presser....

Was a typical last day of window, deal drifted away previously then came back to us

we thought that it would not get done but all fell into place and we are delighted

very pleased with our window, we have strengthened every area of the pitch

Ings is on loan initially, it was why the negotiation took so long

both clubs had to be comfortable with the deal, win/win for both clubs

Danny wanted to come here and he has a point to prove

as manager, kept away from the mechanics of signing a player

I have the final say on players that get presented and it has worked very well this window

I have to give the final nod and every player presented were good enough to play for us

met Danny last night, the staff were in for meetings, including Mr Gao. Danny met everyone

Danny said from the off that he feels part of this club and really wanted to join

Danny is fit and available to play. we will see how he trains. He has had a good pre season already

We had to improve goal scoring. We have brought in Armstrong, Mo is going to be a real talent

Ings will complement what we have

we are in a better position now, definitely

Now the window is shut, all clubs know pretty much what they have. Obviously, there will be some outgoings on loan perhaps.

2-3 weeks of nonsense has now gone

Cedric has been back since monday. He was ill last week.

He is fit, played at the world cup, he will play we feel if he is ready and he is honest about his recovery

everyone else is fully fit and ready to play

there we go.

Great summary Bat........I haven't enjoyed pressers as much since Koeman.

That's true. Puel's were awful, his English wasn't good enough. I admire him for the effort and determination but he should've used an interpreter. If you listen to him now, he's much more fluent. Pellegrino just spoke utter nonsense.

Mccarthy

Cedric Yoshida Vestergaard Bednarek Bertrand

Armstrong Romeu Hojberg

Gabbi Austin

Subs

Gunn, Targett, Stephens, Lemina, Elyounessi, Gallagher, Ings

Picking the bench really does show how horribly bloated our squad has become.

Hoping Davis gets a loan move elsewhere(as both a Saints & Norn Iron fan) & we get rid Long and Forster too.

We have to go to 4 at the back - we can't seem to get it right with 3 at the back - and a defensive midfielder to shield them.

I 'd pick the following as the starting 11:

--------------------------- McCarthy ----------------------------

Stephens -------- Vestergaard -------- Yoshida --------- Bertrand

----------------------------- Romeu ------------------------------

-------------- Hojberg-------------------- Armstrong ------------

------ Gabbiadini ----------- Austin ------------ Elyounoussi ---

but bring Ings, JWP and Targett on at some point.

This is exactly what I'd want to play as well. Hope we give up on 5atb soon.

If we do persevere with a 3 hope it includes Yoshida, Vestergard and Bertrand with Cedric and Targett wingbacks. His best spell for us was while playing there a couple of years ago with Bertrand behind him left side of the 3.

That’s because we had Fonte and Van Dijk too.

Ing strikes me as more of a Gabbi type guy than Austin, I guess we'll see. Anyway, I found it interesting that Hughes said he has 4 quality strikers now all with different skillsets to offer in his presser. I guess hes already pushing out Gallagher. I would have like to see him get a shot.

But if Hughes is determined to paly that way and we do persist I'd still says that was our best shout at a 3, it aint worked with the others.

But it takes away one of our best attacking threats in Bertrand, it won’t happen.

Games like this the first goal is the killer. Burnley score first and they'll tighten up more than a Nuns lady parts and we will spend the rest of the game trying to break down a well drilled mean defence of 10 men. If we can score early then they will have to try and play a bit and give us some chances. Hopefully it wont be a repeat of last seasons sucker punch.

It would also probably p!ss off three senior CBs knowing that a LB was being picked ahead of them.

I thought Bednarek looked OK in a 3 towards the end of last season and he provided a goal threat from set pieces as well.

Do u think we will Start both Cedric and Yoshida given that neither have had a pre season and could be a gamble, I think we need both to start but in this case would just start Cedric for balance

Would like to see this line up.

----------------------------McCarthey ----------------------------

Cedric -------- Vestergaard -------- Yoshida --------- Bertrand

----------------------------- Romeu ------------------------------

-------------- Lemina -------------------- Armstrong ------------

------ Gabbiadini ----------- Austin ------------ Elyounoussi

Subs: Gunn, Ward-Prowse, Stephens, Hoijbjerg, Redmond, Targett, Long

This game just might be a little to soon for Ings.

That's what I would pick. Probably have Lemina deeper wIth Armstrong in front, but the same personnel.

I like that, although would swap Redmond for JWP and put Lemina where u have JWP, or Gabbie with Redmond and leave JWP in CM, I really dislike Redmond, to wasteful

If he's done the full Liverpool pre-season, he'll be the fittest player we've got.

Think Long will at very least be on the bench, Hughes really likes him. Ings will be involved somehow.

Heard Cedric wasn’t ill. He was lined up to move to a so called big club but it all fell through. He’s back and a bit sheepish. Could an official ITK confirm that?

I am not saying you are wrong, but if he had gone it would have left us without a main RB.

Not that it will make much difference come Sunday....but christ alive, they are absolute bilge tonight. Dire in every position. Awful.
the stats back it up... stinker..

Burnley with 2 shots, none on goal, 28% possession, 1 corner, a shockingly low 263 passes completed.

We need to take the 3 points tomorrow.

It's frustrating that the team I want us to play and the team we're actually going to play are so far apart. I really don't get the point in the Elyounoussi signing if we're going to pursue this one AM two ST formation.

Are you seriously meaning about team selection and formation before the team has actually been announced?
