Nathan Redmond

Leroy Sane version of the one I mentioned is probably a better one than the Bolasie one because him and Redmond have the same number of syllables in their name. But this song always sticks in my head whenever I hear a team singing it.

Redmond has always had bags of potential but has yet to show it in a Saints shirt. He lacks confidence at times which is why he plays safety first. The crowd getting on his back doesn't help either. If Hughes can get him to express himself and build up that confidence wee will have a player.

His confidence looks to be improved this season so far, taking people on more.

Hopefully has a breakout game soon with a goal or two and can kick on from there.

Great cameo at Brighton, did exactly what you would want him to, looked sharp and really a class above everyone else.

I'd argue he's been our best player this season, if he can add goals to his game and be more consistent then it won't be long before England and the big clubs come calling

Made the squad about a year or so ago, carry on like he's started and he cant be too far away from making it again. JWP on the other hand seems to have completely dropped off the international radar.

I like Redmond but it’s only been three games in which he’s been good, not great. Frankly he was as good in the first three games he started for Puel and we all know the frustrations that followed. Redmond will have to do a lot more to convict potential suitors that this is not just another flash in the pan. As for his England call-up, he was part of a radically experimental squad, so not sure what lessons you can draw.

The reality is that any English player between the ages of 23 and 30, and who is playing regularly in the EPL, is probably in the frame for a call up.

Southgate has said numerous times he wants JWP in the team ( he is a big fan of JWP ), but until he is getting proper game time here he cant be picked, which is understandable seeing as JWP is not at a top 6 club, you don't even need a game if your at a top 6 club let alone consistent game time, but realistically, he wont get back in the England team again while he is at Saints unless he starts getting regular game time.

Redmond has no chance of shifting any of England's wide players or central attacking mids out of the team, he is like 7th 8 th probs lower in the pecking order unless every one else gets a seriously injury but then they will still probs go ahead of Redmond., only other 2 ever likely to get a England call up will be JWP or McCarthy.

Is the same Southgate who dropped JWP after the first game in the only major tournament he managed for the U-21s?

The same one they didn't manage to get out of the group stages on? yep, he then went on to be England under 21 toulan champion being voted 2nd best England player of the torny.

Ward-Prowse received his first call-up to the England under-21 team from Gareth Southgate in August 2013, for the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification matches against Moldova and Finland.[39] He played for 64 minutes in the first match,[40] and for the full 90 against Finland, in which he had some of England's most clear goal-scoring opportunities.[41] He scored his first under-21 goal on 15 October, scoring a free kick from 20 yards in a 5–0 win against Lithuania.[42] During the 2014 Toulon Tournament, he scored a "stunning" free kick against Brazil during the group stages.[43] This was later voted "Goal of the Tournament"; Ward-Prowse was also voted as one of the best three players in the tournament.[44]

In April 2015, Roy Hodgson called Ward-Prowse a "big prospect" and hinted at a possible senior team call-up by saying "he'll be in our thoughts because we like him very much."[45]

On 29 May 2016, he captained England under-21s to their first Toulon Tournament victory since 1994, by beating hosts France 2–1.[46] Ward-Prowse was nominated for the Vauxhall England Under-21 Player of the Year award, but eventually lost out to Southampton teammate Nathan Redmond.[47]

In June 2017, he captained the under-21s at that year's edition of the European Under-21 Championship where England reached the semi-finals, eventually losing to Germany in a penalty shoot-out.[48]

JWP was very very successful for the under 21's

2014? The same Toulon tournament that any young player worth their salt was held out for the World Cup?

The fact is that in the only major tournament Southgate managed for the under-21s, he subbed JWP after 50 odd mins and then benched him for the rest of the tournament.

The rest of your cut and paste job is irrelevant to the point at hand.

Ultimately lots of players have decent runs in the u-21s but don’t progress to full international honours or have a long and successful club career. On your silly little metric, it is arguable that your bête noire Redmond was far more successful than JWP.

You need to make your mind pal

I have been so frustrated with him over previous seasons but think that he has been better and shown more promise this season. IF he can continue he could have a great season and be a very important player for us

But still no goals and no assists.

All counts for nowt if there is no end product.

It’s not his fault if Moi heads wide of a gaping goal. He’s played well, getting in between the lines and running at defences. I’d encourage him to keep doing that and the rewards will come.

True. But his decision making once he has got in behind is still highly questionable. There was one moment in the second half last night where he got into a good position and had two players unmarked on the edge of the box, but attempted (and, predictably, fluffed) a worldie instead. He needs to engage his brain more, and only then will the rewards come.

His decision making in the 2nd half was worrying, like he and Bertrand are on different wavelengths, but for the first half I thought he was really positive. One of the few players you got out of your seat over went he went on a run. Showed good feet too. There's a cracking player in there somewhere.

Not quite the time for the JWP fanboys to come out of the woodwork, is it pal?

What is wrong?, touchy cause your golden boy has more mins than pretty much every wide player in the league yet has less assist and key passes than are Left back and right back and defensive midfielder? yep im out the woodwork.

Bad management is just bad management, no manager puts the 2nd smallest player on the pitch to mark the 3rd tallest player on the pitch at a set piece at the end of the game after the team surrendered the game away, even more when the player you have put on has done more key passes In 160 mins than Redmond has managed in 540 mins but cant get on the first team. stats are stats, Redmond passing is as good as my dead nan at talking. just completely none existent.

But its ok, cause he can run at ppl and then do nothing, Just like Long, Least Long closes ppl down constantly and annoys ppl as well.

Best winger in the league, Nathen Redmond is LOL, yu seen his goals and assist? f ucking amazing...……. LOL

Saintsweb player of the season Mr Nathan Thierry Henry

Well we've had one good result so far, so the list isn't going to be particularly impressive is it.

I can guarantee you one thing, Yawns Bored-Mouse won't be on anyone's player of the season shortlist, come the end of the season, buster!

Excellent today, and at Fulham.

Must be very strong mentally to bounce back from last season.

Has been our best player this season IMO, and is starting to fulfil the potential he has. Would be good to see him in a confident side at some stage...

Should be looking to extend his contract, if he is vaguely interested.
