Default Years and years of sub-standard recruitment and the wrong owner the two are linked

I read this not about Saints but about Arsenal but of course it is also very true at St Mary's

In today's game without investment and leadership we cannot expect to be a top ten club when other teams like Leicester and Wolves and to some extent Bournemouth are investing

Profit after tax £62m; Profit from player transfers for the same 2 years £110m. If you exclude player trading we made a profit of £1m in financial year to end June 2018. So yes we do have to sell players to buy them.

Only club in the league that needs to do this

    Why so?

Why are we the only club in the premier that has to?

High operating costs. 2018 Income was £148m v operating costs of £147m with the bulk being on wages of £110m and admin expenses of £10m. By way of comparison Bournemouth (for the same period) had income of £135m v operating costs of £134m with wages of £102m, made a profit on player trading of £1m and an overall loss of £10m

So relative to income, operating costs are more or less in line with those of Bournemouth.

Similar operation cost to Bournemouth who have spent £133m more than they’ve made from transfers in the same period as we’ve made a profit.

I’m still intrigued by the £20m transfer made to the parent company which showed on the 2018 accounts.
