Thread: Absence of Cedric

  1. #1

    Default Absence of Cedric

Has seemingly been fit and available for the last few games but not selected.

    Leaving in January?

    Not selected for tactical reasons?

    Something else?

Odd one IMO. Clearly would improve the side and well suited in theory to the Manager's style.

Will find out soon enough but if no fitness issue then we aren't a good enough side to leave him out given our situation.

Yep, agree it doesn't make much sense not including him when the other options are so limited. Valery, whilst promising in the long term, was cruelly exposed at times tonight, which cost us. He's just not ready or confident enough at this high level yet.

Got to think a move is in the offing in my opinion otherwise don't get why he's not at least been on the bench.

    Clearly off.

He’s not that bad that he can’t get ahead of that performance from Valery.

Leaving is the best guess. I'd love it if we upgraded on him anyway.

He was sat in a box area in the Itchen.

Probably sat down with RH on his one 2 one and moaned about how he wanted to move last summer.
I expect RH only wants those 100% committed and is making a statement here.
    Same goes for Hoedt.

Where does he think he's going?

worrying that both Cedric and Bertrand might not be coming back. Faith in RH though, confident he'll work something out if he's allowed to. Shown more competence in 4 games than the last two managers during their finest moments.

Be stupid to sell him in jan. unless we bring in someone else as Valery is no where near ready

I'm assuming he is off in January. Only reasons to to leave him out and play Valery ,if he is fit, is to not injure him before a move or disciplinary reasons either way its not good for us unless we have a good replacement lined up.

And again, as against Cardiff, we saw how far away from being a Premier League Player Valery still is. Again by far the worst Performance on the field. So we urgently Need Cedric back on the field or a new RB in January...

Completely agree, crazy to be playing Valery if Cedric was available, saints media team have started going on about Southampton Way, giving youth a chance, but Valery just isn't at the level required yet. I'd like to see this team with Bertrand and Cedric back in.

I’d imagine it’s down to the fact he has been injured and is taking time to get match fit. Just a hunch......

Story going around yesterday was that he was having a massage on the treatment table next to Sam Gallacher, when Ralph walked in Cedric was just playing on his mobile phone whilst being massaged.
Ralph said to him what are you doing and then asked if he knew anything about Sams family or personal life and Cedric said no.
Ralph then said well I know his partners name and stuff do you, and again Cedric said no so Ralph took his phone and told him he had better learn some info about his team mate as he will ask him again later.

I really hope this is true. It’s the sort of treatment and arse kicking that pretty much all footballers need

Well sounds like a really, really good reason to deprive the team of a good player.
Sort of managerial tomfoolery that gets you results like last night's.
Still banning all phones during training hours is laudable.

He was injured according to Sky. Also clear Ralph is trying to play a settled team, Valery did OK against Hudds so no need to change.

Seems fair enough. Should be too busy training anyway to need to use your phone.

I heard that a couple weeks ago from a good source. It's just the kick up the arse some of our lot need.
I think Cedric is one to just sulk and throw his toys around though to be honest

Why would not knowing the name of the partner (or Gran or whatever) of a bloke who doesn't ever seem to play in the first team be a reason for pîssing off a player of the standard of Cedric then. I really just don't get some of these antics by managers who've been in the place less than 5 minutes. In Saint's current predicament we need to get our best 11 players onto the pitch whenever possible. If he's fit Cedric needs to play aganst City and Chelsea, never mind whether he knows anything about the lesser members of the squad or not.

Don’t be so ridiculous, crazy talk. It’s got to be that he’s leaving/been disciplined/fell out with Ralph/phone sexed Gallagher’s girlfriend whilst having a massage.

My moneys on a clause in Les Reeds severance pay, if Cedric plays one more game Reed receives an extra 500k. Ralph, being a yes man, has agreed to leave a fully fit international out of the match day squad.

I heard he was in the swimming pool and didn't know the name of the Chlorine that caretaker had put in the pool. This caused Ralph to get so angry he played the chopsticks on piano constantly in training.

Oh yes like Gabby, Mo , Hoedt and Davis who have not really featured.
Anyway may or may not be true but he has certainly been in full training and you are either on the train or you will be left at the station, I am sure those words were aimed at certain players so why wouldn't Cedric be one of them.

Also you have to remember that, as a club, we need to get back to producing X player from the academy for peanuts...and then sell them on for a nice profit. That is the business we are in, not to win trophies etc, but to make money on transfers.

That being that case, the last couple of years has seen that revenue dry up, as there haven't been many decent candidates....the recent inclusions of youth players are born out of trying to address that trend. Those players that have made match day squads recently have probably been judged as the best candidates to make a profit on. Hence Valery getting so much game time.

    All IMHO.

No where in the story did it say he was dropped from the team because of it. He hasn't made the team for other reasons.

He’s been pictured in training regularly over the last couple of weeks. Does he only get injured on match days?

Thought he was injured. We need him or a good replacement ASAP. Valery has promise but he had an absolute nightmare last night. Can't blame him, we shouldn't be relying on him right now. Should probably put Yoshida or Stephens there for the time being if we can't play Cedric.

That would be true of nearly every player under Pellegrino and Hughes. I'd rather they didn't all leave and flourish elsewhere

This is the one I don't get. I rate Cedric and thinks he's definitely an upgrade to Targett/Valery. I also think he fits Ralph's style of play. I expected him to be in as soon as he was fit. I would say exactly the same about Bertrand.

#saintsfc manager Ralph Hasenhüttl fascinating on Cedric today when we chatted....

Said Cedric is training but he’s decided ‘play the young guys (Valery) in that position’ and so Cedric has to wait and when the moment comes he ‘maybe gets a chance to play’

Ah right. Run that through the Football Manager speak to Basic English translator then.
Comes up with "Being sold next week".

RH is doing exactly the right thing. Cedric is here for a big move. Everyone knows it. The guy can't win a header, doesn't look up when he crosses and has had no competition for about 3 seasons. Suddenly he has to put down his phone and get back in the team if he wants his big move.

What’s happened to Bertrand? We really could have done with fresh legs in the wing back positions yesterday.

He is also out of contract in just over a year. Assuming he won't sign a new one he needs to be sold this summer or we fsce losing him on a free, which is the worst secnario for our buy & sell business model.

Has Cedric played his best the last year or so? No

Is Cedric better than Valery for a team in a relegation scrap? Yes

Heard a couple of weeks ago that Cedric has been in a strop since the Summer when we turned down an offer from PSG and the new fella is not prepared to put up with anyone who is not fully committed to the Team.

If this is the case then I have to back the manager, even if short term it weakens us (but given Cedric’s recent performances, we’re not that weakened!).

Hopefully this doesn't backfire on Ralph and he doesn't stick with Valery out of stubbornness..

As long as we bring in a half decent replacement, there aren’t many i’d be more pleased to see the back of than Cedric

the more Valery plays the better he will become. I just wonder if he might be better suited to right back rather than wingback, which requires a more offensive player.

Most (if not all) players that come through the academy are going to take time to settle. Nobody should expect an instant "looks like they've been playing at the highest level for years" impact from them. That's the price you pay for having that connection to the youth teams.

It's a price worth paying, imo.

I’ve heard Hoedt has featured because at lunch he couldn’t name Danny Ings pet dog, this infuriated Ralph as he doesn’t just know the name but knows the breed, weight and what it eats for dinner. Sad times for some of our players.

I for one couldn't care less anymore if we are leaving superior players out. If they don't want to be here and give 100% then they don't deserve to play. The club has been a walk over the last few years, it's about time we took back control from the players. Even worse when it's the likes of Cedric and Hoedt that have this attitude given how average they are. They are not a van dijk or mane by any stretch.
