Mario Lemina - Official: Signs for Nice

Won't play for us again.

If correct, a real shame.

Seen enough of him to know he is a class act.

A stomach problem is not the same as a stomach injury and there are some extremely debilitating conditions that can affect performance, stamina and confidence. Hopefully not the case, but he is our player and lets support him back into our team, he is one of the few who can make a real difference.

Ralph says "Mario Lemina is training by himself in a controlled workload and we will have a look at him."

Not sure to read anything into that or not. Generally training alone tends to mean he's been a naughty boy.

Training alone during some stages rehabilitation is commonplace.

What version is that on pal? I’ve only got up to 2016 on iPad and there is no option to send players to train on their own for rehabiltion on that version. Is it a new feature?

You're one of the few people who's seen enough of him. He reminds me of Gaston Ramirez: a few games each year he makes an appearance and shows some flashy skills then he disappears.

The number of games he's played more than 45 minutes in:

2018/19 16

2017/18 21

2016/17 8

2015/16 7

Good news he's back in training, but don't see him walking back into this team now even when fit. No doubt of his ability in flashes, for example that home game against Man Utd earlier on in the season, he gave Pogba a lesson, but we don't see that enough. If we can get him playing to the top of his ability week in week out, we would have an amazing player on our hands, but that just doesn't seem to be in his DNA.

He has never really seemed like he gives a toss and is a bit embarrassed to be playing at our level. Just my opinion on his body language. Shame. There's a very good player in there, as we will probably see when he goes eventually.

The "don't give a toss" Lemina theorists are way off the mark. The man has been injured - fit, he's a cut above any other player we have.

The same could be said about Bertrand but he certainly gave his best vs UTD.

IMHO Lemina and Bertrand have been carrying knocks for a while and at times are forced to play.

Like Tadic?

I think his attitude has been questionable at times, but when you've previously played under (I think) Conte and Allegri, perhaps the training and all round ability of Pellegrino and Hughes leaves you a bit underwhelmed. It's still unprofessional to go through the motions, but can certainly see how it happens.

I was at Fulham away where Ausyin tossed in the least committed performance I have ever seen from a pro at Saints.

By contrast, Lemina was excellent and gave everything, despite how crap the situation was.

Pre RH, all of our best performances under MP and MH were when Lemina was on form.

In the past Mane , Wanyama , etc have put in good performances when playing against potential suitors, this may affect current players input for Saints ! In other games they have got red cards , turned up late for matches etc . I see Poch is making , someone else may need to take Spurs forward , noises !

I cant agree with this, OR is a better DM so is Hoj, He is not more creative than Redmond Armstrong or JWP, sooooooooooooooo how is he a cut above every other player we have?

I was also at Fulham and agree, Austin was awful.

Crystal Palace away and West Brom away were two matches where Lemina was head and shoulders above every other player on the pitch, from both sides. You simply don't put in those kind of performances unless you are capable of being a top player. I just think that inconsistency and at times looking like he's not motivated (but fans are far too quick to accuse players of not trying simply when they're not playing well) might be down to having to play for managers who are clearly not great compared to what he was used to before.

He looked a world-beater in those 2 games, shows what the player is capable of but I guess his injury record/inconsistency may prevent him ever reaching his true potential.

Hopefully get a few games out of him and Ings before the end of the season.

his instagram stories are purely french rap music and his wife/kids, where there is this hint of a playboy lifestyle. He has certainly built up a brand on there with the whole '#TonicLikeLeminade', which might be why some might perceive him to be less focused on football and more on social media!

I think he is our best player when on song, almost like a Pogba-lite! He has this explosiveness about him as a box-to-box player, very dynamic, the only issue like many is consistency but he has shown he can shoot, can pick out a pass, the physicality and other aspects. The most valuable asset I would say we have too.

Yep, definitely. Pretty similar to when we saw Van Dijk at his best, easily the best player on the pitch. Not comparing the two, but I'd say when Lemina is on form he's probably our best player. Need to get past the knocks and get him motivated playing under a good manager.

Lemina is a great player. Genuine flair and creativity. Has never been fit under RH. Needs to score more goals. Must be given a fair chance. Probably our best player when fit and committed IMHO

Who you dropping to play him? OR?? No way, OR is a much better DM, Hoj? Na he is Captain, JWP? Cant, he has been our match winner of late and would put a big shadow over the full team to drop its most on form player for some one who has not ever been on form at any club he has been at not to mention JWP is miles more creative than Lemina so would not make sense to swap them.

No room for him to start, even if we remove a defender and add an extra mid, Sims would be a far better option. I cant see him displacing OR,HOJ and JWP if they keep playing the way they are.

Would it not be prudent to judge this player when fully fit having had a good run of games under Ralph? It could be that, as with a large majority of our players, he will actually reach his potential under an excellent manager.

I prefer Lemina to Romeu tbf in a Centre Mid (CM) role. In CDM, then yeah Romeu is better.

I just feel like Lemina is a BTEC Pogba, and that is not so much an insult. A Lemina at his best has far more potential to make an impact both defensively and offensively than the other 3 at their best, barring JWP's set pieces.

FWIW I heard a rumour a few weeks ago which if true I would have expected to see here but I will post it anyway. It's a mate of a mate who is close to someone at the club rumour. I was told that Lemina's wife and family are living in london whilst he is living down here with his brother (in Bournemouth?). His brother is apparently a bit of a lad and they are out drinking and socialising a lot. It goes on that they took Obafemi under their wing and RH was unimpressed which is why he made the comment about Obafemi needing to be more professional. I am sure somebody knows better but thought I would share.

JWP is miles more creative than Lemina even with out his set pieces, I am not even going to go into detail, but JWP has in this season alone in only 18 games ( 1289 mins ) nearly made more key passes ( 53 ) than Lemina has since he started playing ( 58 ). I know Lemina looks better, but JWP is better.

OR and HOJ are far better defensively as they don't lose concentration, better decision making, even when at his best Lemina is bad defensively, he is more powerful and better at dribbling than Hoj, OR and JWP, but we are not talking wingers here, we are talking central mid ( In OR's case CDM ) he just is not as good as the others overall.

this i find genuinely interesting. When i see those bursts of dribbling from him i start to picture him playing like gerrard and pushing the hwole team forwards but you are right that unless he is doing the basics of his position well (with respect to how ralph needs that position to play) then it doesnt matter about his bonus features

Whilst it is good to see Mario Lemina back in training and seemingly enjoying football life again, he will be nowhere near match fit for quite a while.

What a player to have on the bench 'though so expect him to come on at Brighton for the last 15 minutes when Romeu and/or Hoj pick up their inevitable yellow cards or blowing like whales.

In a David Connolly sort of way...

Two almighty big 'ifs' rather than 'whens' there in my view.

Arguably our most talented player, but right now what we're doing is working. A great option to have for the run in, as we don't have anyone who plays like he does. Having him and Ings coming back for the last stretch gives me more hope that we can add some more goals.
