The January Window - what will it cost us?

I thinks it's clear Ralph didn't want Gabbi from the horse's mouth.

Hasenhuttl said at a press conference: "He is a good player, fantastic technique, but I think with this intensive pressing system we try to play, it is not his way, so it was better to find a solution which is better for both sides.

"It is a good step for him to go back to Italy, I wish him all the best. I am sure he can score goals at every club in the world, but we try to go another way and for that we need other players."

However I also think you could interpret the last line as Ralph thinking he was going to get a replacement...

Thanks for posting that. I hadn't seen or heard that and agree with your interpretation - it did seem that RH anticipated a replacement.

I would have tried to get Billy Sharp back in.

Next year we will see if he can cut it in the EPL. I was always a "yes, he could".

Think he'd leave his boyhood club, wearing the armband, when he has a shot of getting them back into the Premier League at 32 whilst he's home settled, for a chance to be on the bench with us under a manager's whose style of play doesn't suit him?

I wouldn't if I was him

I struggle to see a 33-year-old Billy Sharp being of use to Saints under Hasenhuttl. I'd prefer to see Ings, Redmond, Obafemi and Gallagher as strikers for Saints.

True. Hassenhuttla style needs someone with a 15+ pace, aggression and stamina rating. Billy would be below this. Whilst his shooting stat would be around 13 not really high enough to make up for who he lacks in other areas. His adaptability score will also be quite low as he really can only play as a central striker so even though I signed him for Eastleigh when we went from the conference south to champions league winners in 9 seasons I had to let him go (to Newcastle for £29m) once we got to the premier league for the reasons stated above.

maybe open your ears/mind

sadly, people like me have been right far more than wrong in recent years.

yes, I was a weirdo for predicting 7 points, more like 3-5 (imagine if I suggested that on the 5 games thread)

Where were you called a weirdo for predicting 7 points from 5 games ?? Is that another Barman straw man ?

You were called out because you changed your opinion more often than a whore's drawers and your predictions lacked consistency but not for the prediction itself.

What moronic club let’s two seasoned pros leave as they slide into the bottom 3?

I am amazed I predicted as much as 7 points... yet I am the one who gets it in the neck / infracted?

How did we let ourselves get in a position when we were pinning our hopes on a barely tested youngster in a relegation fight?

I had no problem letting players go in Jan because I thought we'd bring in some decent replacements for them but this Jan was beyond madness.

Just another major clanger in a long series of major clangers. We are run by a bunch of clueless monkeys, and I am doing monkeys a disservice.

To think RH came here to raise his profile, perhaps championship football might help in that regard but not if we are still being run by these buffoons and owned by the mystery man who thinks we can self sustain.

"Southampton may well have a few regrets at selling him for just £10million."

Yes, the club's transfer activity in recent years seems to have been run by clueless morons.

The first highlight of this (outside of selling everyone 2 years before) was letting Mane go £30m-odd. Just not enough. He was/is miles better than sissoko, who was sold by a relegated team for the same sort of money

And the guy we brought to replace him can’t even get in the side.

The club is a shambles, staying up this year would just be delaying the inevitable.

Stop panicking. We won't stay up this season, so there will be no delay. Chill.

So despite the usual suspects on here saying we didn’t try to sign anyone in January, according to his agent we were in for Almiron along with Newcastle and Arsenal.

Doesn't mean we were seriously in for him pal. I'm sure we enquired about lots of players.

So let’s just make an assumption that we weren’t seriously looking shall we? Always better to go with a negative if there is any doubt, especially if it has anything to do with the running of SFC. Seriously, why do people find the need to constantly run the club down? Probably just as well they don’t support Spurs, they would be suicidal this morning. Pretty much on every thread there are posters looking for excuses to slag off the owner/board and most of the time based on negative assumptions rather than facts. There is every chance that we would have eventually been in. Relegation scrap under Markus if he had lived longer. Just as well he passed before the pitch fork brigade set on him (although it hasn’t prevented the open season on his daughter).

Yeah, seems we wanted to take him on LOAN only, though. And the other two (Newcastle and Arsenal) have Spanish managers, so they were speaking the same language.

I was hoping RH would attract some of his old boys, maybe he will for next season.
