For the hell of it, the 2019/20 Kit Thread

The club went to great expense producing the SAYNTS video to launch it, SAYNTA might have been more appropriate if they're here in time for Christmas.

It will be interesting to see how many will be wearing it at the first few games with the cheap replicas currently on sale out there.

As it's only £15 I have done exactly this. Purely for research purposes. If it's **** I can still wear it at home as a casual shirt.

Used PayPal to pick up a PSG, Real Betis, France and Argentina shirt from a similar supplier not too long ago. All decent quality and indistinguishable from the genuine item. I guess that, unless you pay out £100+ for a 'player issue' version, you're ultimately getting a cheap ill-fitting piece of polyester for printed vinyl for your £55. My only issue way the sleeve patch starting to peel off the Betis shirt after a few washes, i'd expect your DL Sports logo to do the same. International shirts, however, last a long time and a well made.

The pic above is definitely a fake. It is missing the hologram UA logo at the foot of the shirt front. Got my UA direct one in the post today (without sponsor, so well pleased). It is made in Thailand where I guess the production problems originated. But lets not pick on a 14 year old on minimum wage being taken advantage of by a mega rich kit supplier. Actually the quality is pretty good.

U23s were wearing the firs team shirt last night at Eastleigh so no doubt we will see the first team wearing it on Saturday

What a shambles. Its one of our worst kits ever and it can't even be bought by those who want it!

Perhaps the captain of whichever freighter was bringing them over knew what was best for the world and jettisoned them in the Indian Ocean.

Feel sorry for all the Somalians getting them washed up on the beaches.

Presumably we'll be in a position to terminate our contract with Under Armour if they can't deliver kits by the beginning of the season? I'd be shocked if there wasn't a clause in the contract somewhere along those lines. Not sure what we'd do though - play every game in our away kit? At least it doesn't clash with many other teams.

Does it make much difference to Saints if they do sell? I thought Under Armour paid for the right to make the shirts, it's up to them to sell enough of them?

Personally I can’t see anyone other than UA being accountable for this fiasco !

They are responsible for design, development and manufacture of Saints related products and in line with most other sports brands they do not own their own factories but use regular garment suppliers, predominantly in Asia !

The polyester fabric used in replica shirts is very basic, readily available in the market and the volume required should definitely not be an issue !

The embellishments are printed/heat sealed and can be slightly problematic but TBF that’s what UA are supposed to specialise in

so they should have been able to sort it quickly and efficiently !

Saints contract is with them, not the 3rd party manufacturer so the buck has to stop with them !

Quite why they are being defended by the SFC board is beyond me and in the absence of transparency I guess we’ll never really know !

This product basically expires next May so now has a lifespan of around nine months. As the margins are huge, I do feel that they should offer some sort of discount when they do eventually reach the shops !

Not holding my breath, mind.....

The fact that these shirts already exist and can be purchased on eBay (I have one in front of me as I write) and direct from UA as a previous poster mentioned leads me to believe that this is a sponsor-related issue not a production-related issue. As eurosaint rightly says, the materials are readily available and volume is not an issue. So what else can it be? The oft-quoted ‘third party issue’ has to be something to do with the mysterious LD Sports.

Agreed. I do not accept that UA cannot make shirts or apply / print a sponsor logo. It's a ridiculous suggestion. What I can believe is that the sponsorship situation has caused an issue with UA being instructed to apply / print a sponsor logo and deliver the shirts.

That's the mystery then, why would LD sports not permit (or be able) to sanction the usage of their own logo ??

My best guess is still that the shirts were made with a quality flaw (logo peeling off ?), we're rejected and had to be remade hence the delay !

This would also explain why some shirts have been available on the 'grey market' !!

Still a farce however we look at it !!

Or perhaps the sponsorship deal itself is no longer a certainty (which, given the ongoing website issues for LD Sports, would not come as a complete surprise...)

I didn't say anything about LD sports not permitting their logo to be attached to our shirts. The LD sports logo would not be sanctioned (by the club) to be applied to our kit if there was, for example, a sponsorship contractual issue.

The suggestion that under armour cannot supply a kit with a badge that stays on is utterly stupid.

Be interesting to see how many people turn up in the eBay knock offs tomorrow - that’ll be a tad embarrassing for the club.

For another club, maybe. This club, indifference I’d guess. Let’s hope the players have shirts to wear.

In today's paper The Times asked its fashion editor to cast her eye over the 19-20 home and away kits of each club.

She quite liked the Chelsea, Liverpool and Sheffield Utd efforts, was rude about most of the other clubs including SFC of which she wrote:

' What the Blades have done so well in red and white Saints have managed to comprehensively mess up.

The black yoke looks a bit like the designer hadn't finished scrolling before he hit "print screen", and the grey lines contribute nothing.

There's something odd going on with the sleeves too, as though they've added in a sort of optical illusion bingo wing effect.

I'm trying to find something to be constructive about but none of this is pleasant.'

As for my family everyone particularly hates the horrible black shoulders.

Probably not many as the eBay offer shows delivery after 7 Aug. Might see a few genuine UA shirts

Wrong, heal sealed motifs and badges are notoriously unstable (I'm looking at last years kit right now and the logo is peeling !) and any factory in China can have problems !

Having been in some hundreds of factories in Asia over the years and bought similar items as these in huge quantities, I assure you that UA suppliers are not exempt from this danger !

Having said that, you may be right in your assertion that the logo was not sanctioned by the club but we just don't know, do we ?

No need to attack me for having an opinion based on my experience in this particular market !

No offence was intended. To me as a layman, the notion that a major sports clothing company cannot supply a shirt with a label that stays on makes no sense. Like you say thoug we don't know what the issue is, but my suspicion remains that it's not that UA can't put a label on properly.

No probs, I'm only uptight on this thread as I have some knowledge of the market and more so, my grandsons are agitating for their annual new shirts :)

I wonder if anyone pre ordered it (if you could), and whether that might have something to do with it?

Only 2 other things I can see surrounds the sponsor's logo: either it is going to change or there was a manufacturing fault.

The latter seems most implausible.....but who knows?

So does anyone actually have one of these eBay kits? If so how bad a fake are they? They look pretty good compared to the fakes my son buys on holiday in Spain/Greece/Turkey etc and they never have Saints kits. If they’re good might save me a fair bit in money

Mine is fine. £18 including postage. There are a few details which on close inspection might make you doubt its authenticity but nothing worth forking out an extra £30!

Apparently won’t be ready for another month.

Also, the delay in the away shirt last year.... they printed the wrong badge on it apparently..

So for the first four League matches of the season there will be no current replica shirt available.

wow !

Will be interesting to see if they offer a discount given over 10% of the League season is over before they go on sale and also presumably the third shirt will be available at the same time?

Complete balls up

I have one grandson who lives in Cape Town, was here and just gone back. Two grandsons who live in Belgium, currently here but leaving soon. All three traditionally get a new kit each year when they visit us. If I can't buy them by next week then the postage will cost more than the (overpriced) kits !!

Given that the club is looking to establish an overseas fan base, it's not exactly a good advert !

Grrrr....

Watching the Charity Shield, love the City kit. Simple, classic/retro. Don't know if they're keeping it for the rest of the season, but even the bindippers new NB kit is reminiscent of their 1980s kit and looks classy. How can we f+;k it up so badly??

Just for the Community Shield I think.

I did not peg you as a shirt wearer.

In all honesty, the kit is starting to grow on me a little.

The 5 a side team I play for wears Black and I needed a new top so it was good timing. Home kit is still appaling but I like the away one because I've always been a fan of a bit of yellow on it.

Could it by any chance be a contractual row between Virgin/ LD Sports/Saints. I'm sure I heard that Virgin had renewed their shirt sponsorship before LD announced theirs.
