Steve De Ridder & the dangers of You Tube Scouting

Signed with much You Tube fanfare, waltzing past 16 year old defenders from Den Haag reserves, Steve turned out to be a small upgrade on Dany N'Guessan rather than the star many anticipated.

He was quick, possibly Jonno-quick but he was something of a headless chicken and best used as an impact sub.

He played 36 times for Saints, scoring 3 goals, most notably an equaliser away at Reading.

Ultimately though, Stief87 left in 2013, having had his contract ripped up by a snarling Nicola Cortese.

Fed up with De Ridders performances, Cortese had minutes earlier identified the man he wanted as a replacement, with a powerful young striker catching his eye during the highlights of Zambia vs Ghana in the 2012 AFCON semi finals.

Thought he was decent for us when we were at the level we were. Seemed to have a genuine affection for the game and the club.

Ditto, and probably didn't cost us too much. As with most cheapy wingers they blow hot and cold - some **** games, some good games and lots of average.

"... dangers of YouTube scouting". Do you really think the club relies on YouTube videos to find players or to confirm their worth? One would hope not.

Exactly. Delusional fans thinking their experience is aligned with that of the professionals within the club.
