Thread: Academy 2019/20

  1. Default Academy 2019/20

What a shambles at the moment, U18s failing so far this season and the U23s currently 8-2 down to Everton.

    Hope it's just a blip.

    Crikey, what happened there?!

We were 2-0 up! Then 2-2 at half-time.

What percentage of our academy players play above their natural age group and how does this compare to other academies?

No idea of how we compare, but that was a young team out tonight. Barnes is 22, Slattery and O'Driscoll 20, and the rest 16-19, including a 16 year old debutant and 17 year old keeper. Was a strange line up too - 6 defenders and only 4 on the bench. It's a bit of a mess.

Six defenders and we ship eight. Sounds like the Southampton Way is being nicely ingrained in the next generation.

Amazingly not particularly shocked at that result. I went to the Hampshire Cup game at Basingstoke Town towards the end of last season. When you consider that all our lads are full time footballers, they were often outplayed by a bunch of part timers (being harsh) playing (and soon to depart) in a league 6 divisions below the one most of our lads were being prepared for. No one except maybe Will Ferry actually stood out for Saints.

U23ís came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 away at Spurs.

Hansen forced an own goal & then scored the equaliser.

Decent result again the PL2 league leaders. Good reaction after the Everton drubbing.
