Ashley is a better owner than Gao... think about that.

They riot, we just sit back and accept it :)

Not just accept it, applaud the great business sense of not signing new players to improve the team because we already have some that aren’t very good.

I got a warning for suggesting that there are 'dinlos' who champion this stance - like awarding 3 goal a season, shane long another £3m....

Anyone who wants Ralph out needs certifying. He has got both hands tied behind his back. I couldn’t work for Gao and for me the club effectively went in deep freeze in 2017. It will only be properly Southampton Football Club again for me once Gao has gone lock stock and barrel.

A Batman and Turkish doubl act!!!! What more could we want

So you made a post, then went back and ended to have another pop at me.

I wouldn’t rush to renew his contract.

I wouldn’t trust him in the transfer market for starters.

He isn’t all that.

Barring the small and brief upturn in form at the beginning of the year, which was down to Ings primarily, majority of our displays have been abysmal.

The manager and coaching staff are on par with the lacklustre players we have at our disposal.

Yeah it was all Ings, nothing to do with the rest of the team or management. Fs give Ralph credit where its due, he was a big factor in that run, particularly picking the players up after the 9-0. Its only fair that he deserves criticism following the recent results. But who could honestly do better with the current group of players. He deserves support and a chance (although likely financially constrained) to build a team in the summer

How do you know what he could do in the transfer market? He’s only been allowed to bring in two perm players in 3 windows both funded by sales

He brought in Danso (who you might ask?), KWP (why if you are not going to play him) - both thankfully on loan. Adams, Jenny (yet to be proven). Let Yoshi, Ced and Targett go with no back up for starters. Not sure I would trust him with any precious dosh we might have to spend in the summer wisely.

The transfer window doesnt work like that at this club. The manager has minimal say on signings.

Suspect that may well be partially true, but then he's just another puppet manager we don't need

A little update on the Ralph saga, the players apparently approached Martin Semmens. To Ask for Ralph to be replaced/sacked. Semmens went mad and told the players, he would rather sack them than replace Ralph. Kat tried to buy back saints off Gao, he wanted the £250m he IS asking for the club from her. Also Kat embarrassed herself, when walking off the stage, after doing a very poor rendition of Sweet Caroline with her son, when the heel on her High heel shoes snapped off, and she fell flat on her face! OH DEAR!!

This is what I posted in January but thought better of it and deleted it. Feck it, it doesn't really matter now and we need something to discuss:

Who wants some club gossip? Seems like as good a place as any to put it. From multiple sources:

January.

Relevant club staff have been told to work until 1am on transfer deadline day. Suggests that at the very least we will be working to bring someone in.

The club.

Agreement seems to be that the club structure went to pot after we qualified for Europe. Apparently following this we brought in a load of extra staff in departments. The people I spoke to think we are overstaffed in certain areas to do with the club, with loads of staff doing jobs that are different from their job description. The board itself is apparently decent but the department heads are pretty rubbish and are largely the reason that things have gone backwards. Almost all decisions have to be run past the board for approval which means we have had a high turnover of backroom staff as many want to stay but small things like little pay rises or contract changes can take ages to be approved and staff get fed up and find alternative employment.

We had a solid system for recruiting players and under krueger and Wilson things changed. Ross and krueger were largely responsible for the transfer debacle of the last couple of years. The club are aware that Les carried the can for a load of the decisions but apparently he was blamed for a load of stuff that wasn't his fault. Wilson was largely to blame. The carillo transfer in particular, loads of scouts said he wasn't worth the cash but Ross was adament that he would do well.

Leicester.

After the 9-0 and before the Everton game there was a big crisis meeting with about 600 staff addressed by Martin selmayr. Apparently he is miles better than krueger and Ross and has taken more of a responsibility in football matters. He was very honest and said that apparently we were incredibly close to signing about 5 of the Leicester team - Maddison in particular changed his mind at the last minute- and he emphasised the fine line between success and failure. Ralph was ready to walk after Leicester and offered his resignation but the club decided that they didn't want him to leave. Martin said that a manager should only leave if they had lost the players and they didn't believe that this was the case so they were determined to back him. He said that whilst he was in charge, never again would players be signed on the say so of one person (meaning carillo.)

The academy bloke who left for England and due to start in February has been all over the club recently and apparently is an incredibly positive appointment as he knows the club and will return things to higher standards and remove some of the department heads if not performing. Jaidi apparently is still working for the club and there may be an expectation that he has gone to learn in America and will return in the future.

Ralph.

Decided to come to the club and use us largely as a stepping stone. Came in and promised to stay and get us up the table but then wants to leave and move on. Unlikely to stay for too long if we have some success.

Lost rohl once he knew bayern wanted him. Big loss because he was the link between Ralph and the players. Even now Ralph is slightly isolated. Ralph really doesn't trust many of the hangers on like coles and kelvin. If you notice he rarely interacts with them and doesn't do much conferring on match days other than with the bald guy (can't remember his name.)

The players

Many of the players have had and in some cases continue to have incredibly poor attitudes. There's been a marked decrease in commitment from a few seasons ago. Players were told to come to a sponsors event in November and were told that any players who did not attend would be fined £7k. Out of twenty odd players, only 7 showed up including jwp and ings. Certain departments have been told not to do anything too in depth with Bertrand which suggests he is off. He apparently has a poor attitude and was why he wasn't being played much at the start of the season.

Charlie Austin is a gigantic b*llend. Made sexually suggestive and lewd comments to female staff members and was generally a ball bag. Most in the club very pleased to see the back of him

Danso was really signed for potential and was worth a punt. Apparently has a 3.5 million fee if we decide to keep him. View of the club is that he has a lot of potential and may be worth it for such a small outlay.

The kit.

Anniversary next year. Almost certainly. Isn't going to be stripes, we may see a return of the sash. Someone got sacked for leaking the kit last year so understandably people don't want to reveal anything much this year.

Gao

Nothing we don't already know but has no intention of putting money in or taking any out. Only ever wanted the club to raise his profile abroad and as an asset to assist him in his other businesses. Some people are nervous about the sponsor this year and fear it could be something dodgy like money laundering.

Not sure your information on roll is correct. He took a job a few levels down from the one he was on at saints. It wasn’t Rohls choice to leave and Ralph agreed with the decision. Remember it was a good 6-8 weeks before his leaving was confirmed. I’m not going to say why Rohl left but it wasn’t because Bayern tapped him up.

Fair enough. Maybe the bayern thing was just what certain people at the club were told if he did something he shouldn't have done.

To be fair it would also be the natural reaction, most saints fans assumed he’d simply been offered a role at a bigger club, but it wasn’t as simple as that.

That's all interesting and I'd guess there's a good deal truth in it.

I've been lucky enough recently to have been in a small group conversation with Martin Semmens and Toby Steele and, in the light of their comments, I'll comment on each of your headings.

No idea whether we were hoping to get someone in during January, but I'd guess they would have gone for the right RB if one had been available. But the good run over Christmas took the pressure off and they were already thinking ahead to the summer rather than urgent buys in Jan.

The club

It's pretty obvious things have gone wrong, especially with recruitment but I'm hopeful the new team are straightening things out. But past mistakes are costing. We have to clear out bad buys (almost impossible) and get the club structure right again.

Leicester

This was clearly seen as a critical moment. I know Ralph had long discussions after the game with Martin Semmens, who I think persuaded him to stay. To me this was the moment Ralph went back to first principles and realised how far away he was from the philosophy he really believed in. He'd lost Danny Rohl and I'm convinced that was a huge blow. But he made big changes and effected a real turnaround.

Interestingly, neither MS nor TS consider the Leicester game their worst Saints moment.

Ralph

I think he'll stay for the time being. Moving doesn't make much sense. He won't get a top European club and his prospects of being successful by improving Saints are better than taking on a "big" club where Euro qualification and titles are the criteria for success.

Hopefully, when he does go, it'll be because he's made an impact and made Saints a top 8 club again.

Agreed that he needs a good #2.

The players

Not got much insight but I'd guess Ralph is working towards a kernel of players who buy into what he's doing. I'd agree the signs are there are still some who don't fit. I know Lemina is one.

No idea on the kit

Gao

I think I believe he's not actively trying to sell, but I'd guess would do so for the right price. He hasn't got money to invest but isn't draining the club and better to get sustainable without needing big cash injections.

Interestingly, it's appreciated that he doesn't interfere with day-to-day running.

Yes, I'm nervous about Lander Sports and I don't think we're about to get any clarification.

Thanks that is interesting. The people I spoke to were very complimentary about Semmens. They really thought he did a good job to get everyone rowing in the same direction and putting his faith in Ralph was a big moment. Basically said that Ralph was staying whatever happened and he would get rid of the pkayers before Ralph. Helped to bring people on board.

Good for her, it shows a human side, which is prefereable to the inscrutable majority owner whose interest and intention nobody has any idea about.

Rest of your stuff ties in with what I heard though. Wilson having Carte Blanche on transfers and getting far too much power hence my comments when he left about the laughable claims he’s a transfer guru. Players attitudes, Bertrand etc all stuff I’ve also heard.

Yes. Both Semmens and Steele impressed everyone. Clear thinking and vision and we felt we got honest answers. They were very pleased to know we like and back Ralph.

They see the biggest challenge is to get back to being the solid mid-table or above club we were in the days of Poch and Koeman. Then the pressure is off, there's more time for clearer planning and we're looking up, ready to take the chance on Euro qualification. We're never going to be one of the big boys, but can aspire to being like Leicester - still hopefully a club with a local fanbase and run sustainably - but good enough to be a threat if the top teams slip up.

The bar is set at 14th in the table. Once you're below that, and particularly down the bottom, advance planning goes because until there's certainty over PL status you can't plan or commit anything. It was suggested that the last two seasons planning for the summer and next season simply couldn't start before May, but this year it's been underway since the January window closed.

When we "met" we invited MS and TS to ask us questions. They asked if we wanted a multi-billionaire to buy the club and turn us into a Man City, "buying" the title. Rightly or wrongly, we said no. And where does the team need strengthening - mainly defence, especially RB. That was agreed.

We discussed how a fully committed and consistent Lemina could be like a new player. We also bemoaned the loss of Flybe flights on Saturdays from Manchester to Southampton (we're Northern based). Tongue-in-cheek it was suggested that if we could sort Lemina out, the club might buy us an airline!

Cheers. I wonder if we will attempt to bring lemona back if we can't get rid?
I'd like to think so, but get the feeling he's so at odds with Ralph's thinking it's not going to happen.

My own opinion is that Lemina thought Saints would be a quick easy step Mané-style to a lucrative contract at a top club. Probably encouraged by an agent. He's got an over-inflated view of himself and only cares about himself, not Saints. He'll be out on loan again.

RALPH!!!!

Ralph. Nuff said.

What a turnaround after the first third of the season. Greetings from an Austrian.

Hasenhüttl translated (Hasen actually means rabbits, so the plural form and Hüttl is a minimisation of hut which we usually say slightly different in austrian dialect, so it is not 100% correct but o.k.)

Getting a lot of praise on social media this evening from fans of all clubs (along with the usual "can't see him staying at little old Southampton much longer" of course.)

Pole position for October Manager of the Month I'd have thought?

Aside from their goal when we nodded off after equalising - Chelsea could hardly touch the bottom 2nd half.
