I don’t know what is more depressing. 5 more years of Tory policies or 5 more years of Wes’s inane posts.

If you're going to talk about "most of us" when expressing opinions, then certainly you are going to hear a lot more from me. Of course there is always the ignore button. Regarding ignoring the 5 more years of Conservative government, I'm sorry I can't suggest how you ignore that, short of emigrating. Where do you think would suit you, Soggy?

Didn't we have a referendum on changing the voting system under the Conservative/LibDem coalition?
Yes. They picked the worst alternative known to humanity, Cameron did an excellent job of demolishing it through misrepresentation, and no one gave a sh it and it lost on a very low turnout. Quite rightly to be honest as it wasn't significantly more proportional.

Yes. The LibDems made it a condition of coalition but were far too weak over it, as the referendum was called but Tories and Labour campaigned for no change.

Should have offered Cameron the requirement of actually passing a change to PR before supporting a coalition. Of course, the Tories wouldn't have agreed. FPTP is the Holy Grail that shuts out smaller parties.

all the talk of a coalition..we had one in 2010 and people still moan about it

Because it was a ridiculously one-sided coalition, totally unlike the kind we would get under a PR voting system, that was responsible for instigating the programme of austerity that has caused so much damage to the moral fabric of this country.

Do they Jamie? Some people might disagree with the austerity policies the coalition pursued but they would have doubtless disagreed more if there hadn’t been the coalition since the policies under a straight Tory government would have been harsher. At any rate the main charge against coalition government is that it leads to weak, unstable and divided government and I don’t remember anyone criticising the 2010 coalition on those terms. Quite the opposite given the shîtshow of the last few years.

Of all people on here pal, you should probably think before you open your mouth.

I agree with this. If you've read Cameron's book, the story of the coalition is interesting, and references back to it now are very selective.

Tory policies were ameliorated and the regime had its successes, but the focus was on the LibDems allowing tuition fees increases. As a minority partner, they were very limited.

Where they were useful was in giving Cameron a reason not to have a Brexit referendum. It was when he got a majority he couldn't dodge it, although he wanted to.

their merry band of followers (jonnyboy for example) are the sort to believe that if you can't see/hear the magic when Corbyn was on the TV/Radio, then you are right-wing scum and should f-off and vote Tory.

many are still in denial!

Odd comment, for me it was past voting record and political activity, the manifesto of hope and a better future for our young people.

As before, the under 50s with above average education didn't vote Tory.

you have people on here still not forgiving the Libdems for their time in power

That has nothing to do with coalition per se. It’s like saying you don’t believe in government at all just because you disagree with a particular government’s policies. That’s a non sequitur.

People who didn’t like the 2010 coalition would have hated the alternative much more.

I was a remoaner but had accepted the result, watching Alistair Campbell today on ITV where he still couldn't bring himself to accept that the message has been lost. It was pathetic how these people believe they know best and that the 'poor' are not bright enough to make their own minds up and people like him have to decide for them. Hence these strong Labour seats have revolted against these people

Seems to me there's a hard core of 3-4 million ukip voters whose only real concern is reducing immigration (let's be honest) who will switch to whatever party will deliver Brexit. First they went ukip to Brexit party, now they've gone Brexit party to Tory.

Ok we get it. You are ok with millions of people’s votes meaning nothing.

With any system there will always be winners and losers !

The post mortem tends to highlight those unwilling to accept the reality of it !

Anyway, let’s agree to differ, I’m off down the pub :)

Yes there will, but I don’t think it is about accepting reality. It is about a proportional representation in Parliament.

Anyway, enjoy your pint!

What on earth were they protesting about? Was travelling home and not seen the evening news.

All sounds a bit odd.

The usual kind of screaming at the sky nonsense because they didn't get their way. "not my prime minister!" Getting aggressive and violent and rejecting democracy because it didn't go the way they wanted it to.

Don’t know if this has been posted earlier, sorry if it has (I can’t be arsed to look back), but It’s impossible not to feel for Alan Johnson. One thing for sure, the Labour Party wouldn’t have been in this mess had he replaced Brown. People bang on about David Milliband, AJ is the best leader they never had. **** me, even I’d vote for him above Major or Heath. Proper bloke.

I put it on the Corbyn thread last night. One of the highlights of the night from my perspective.

Agreed with every word he said.

The tragedy is that instead of Johnson it is the fu cking loon Lansman that has power in the Labour party, which is why it will now never be anything other than a protest group for middle class socialists to play at being revolutionaries, without any pressure to actually win or take a single decision that could actually change the lives of normal people.

So far the early riders for Labour leader are:

David Lammy

Jess Philips

Dawn Butler

On a night where the electorate resoundingly rejected identity politics, any one of those three will win them a majority no doubt about it.

Isn't complaining about prejudice against a religion non-stop a form of identity politics?

Dear god.

Watching Newsnight, some dopey bird (who lost to IDS) claiming the “system is rigged”. Also claimed the media had demonised Corbyn, then started arguing with Jack Straw after he was shaking his head. Her final claim, the manifesto was so good , that people didn’t vote for it because they couldn’t believe it. Straw telling her he’d known Corbyn for years and he did “play footsie” with the IRA, and the bird told him “you’re using their lines”. The hatred of him was written all over her face.

These clowns are deluded.....

In this election to get 1 seat in Parliament you needed this number of votes -

Green 864,743

LibDem 334,122

Labour 50,817

Plaid Cumru 38,316

Conservative 38,300

SNP 25,882

Brexit polled 642,303 votes but did not win a seat

Not sure this is saying what you think it is saying. Its utterly pointless for Labour to stack up 30k majorities in Islington and Holborn when they can't get the few thousand required in marginal seats in the Midlands or the North. That's kind of the point of constituency elections. London vanity votes is all the Cretin and his team care about because they haven't got the faintest idea of how to win Nuneaton or Worcester or Rugby or even bloody Sedgefield. But stack em up in Bethnal Green and feed the dins on Twitter who can spin it like a landslide.

Maybe if Straw had stood up to Blair and Bush we could pay more attention to his outdated opinion.

Talking of which, when do we get Blair wheeled out? Sunday I expect.

The Cretinistas own and control every lever, structure, commitee and process in the Labour Party, completely dominated by Formby, Milne and Uncle Len and the rest.

The fact that he isn't out on his ear today when any other leader of any other party would be long gone is unarguable proof of my point. No pressure whatsoever.

Winning elections and changing lives is not the objective. Dominating Labour party committee meetings is the objective. Talking shop, pressure group. That's why he swans back into HQ Monday morning as if nothing has happened.

Blair is the only labour leader born in the past 100 years who has won an election. Maybe, just maybe, he knows a thing or two about winning elections. You clowns need to get over Iraq, he won an election after going to war. I don’t like the bloke, but Johnson, Straw, Blunkett, etc are head and shoulders above the numpties running the sh it show at the moment.

I tell you what is funny as ****. Jezza, one of the biggest euro sceptics of the past 30 years was ****ed by pretending he was “neutral”. ****ing two bit Wolfe Smith......

It was McClusky from Unite who ensured Corbyn became leader with all those votes from his Union. Anybody in their right mind could see at the time that Corbyn was never PM material as he never even looked the part. What was it Cameron said at PMQ's once "Put on a suit, pull your tie up and sing God Save the Queen".
