Not that you would have known.

Look, you are continuously on the losing side and will be again.

I have my finger on the pulse, not only did I predict Puel and Pellegrino’s departure before most, I have voted for the winners in every major election I have participated in.

Voted Labour in the 2000’s, Conservative since 2010 and voted to leave the EU...

And let's have her as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Her grasp of economics and unfailing recall of her brief requires it to be implemented. Also McDonnell is in the wrong post. He should clearly be Foreign Secretary, as his empathy towards those regimes most likely to cause WW3 is a valuable asset to our diplomatic prowess.

People who believe in and want to work for a fairer society for everybody. What utter, utter bastards!

There’s not one politician who wants to make society unfair. It’s just they disagree on how you do so. The problem with you lefties is you think you have the moral case, that you’re the “caring” ones. It’s pure pony. You don’t make society fairer by making rich people poorer.

Just how much money does a billionaire need? How can you justify not taxing the obscenely rich a bit more when we have thousands sleeping on the streets and food banks in every town? How can you justify the 9 years of austerity that has brought us to this? It would be fine if we were all in it together, but your Party chose to visit the pain on the very people who could afford it the least.

It’ll be worse when Corbyn turns us into Venezuela Mk2. But, of course, it’ll be fine because we’ll all be in it together.

Pony.

The richest pay more than their fair share of tax. What on earth does it matter what Paul McCartney earns, who are you or Corbyn to tell him he’s got more money than he needs. You chumps resent people who have money, and seem to believe that by taking it off them it will somehow make poor people richer.

The problem with your pony is the rich won’t pay any more , it’s the ordinary blokes that will end up paying more tax. Luckily , the public are more economically literate than you soft arsed lefties, and will vote for the grown ups.

The rich employ people who advise them how to pay less tax. I don’t resent rich people in the least. I resent super rich people who feel that they are somehow more entitled just because they have more money. You seem to think that it is okay to have a section of society that have more money than they could ever spend when we have people who can’t feed their families through no fault of their own. You sound just as heartless as the people you vote for. I hope that you never have to try and claim Universal Credit.

Labour attempt to demonise rich people simply for having money. Like everyone there are some tyrants and unpleasant people who are rich but also some altruistic and kind ones too who already give tons of money to good causes.

I saw a momentum ad yesterday laughing at people for being kind to billionaires as if having loads of money suddenly makes someone evil. There's never any recognition that some of these people will have made the country loads of money, employed hundreds or thousands of people and spearheaded innovation and wealth creation. I'm sure most can recognise that a proportional and fair tax rise would be fair enough but to try to demonise wealthy people in this manner is completely unhelpful. Thankfully it seems that the British public are rejecting this politics of envy, let's hope this attitude continues till polling day.

I often disagree with your views but this time you have hit the nail on the head about what is wrong with the Labour campaign. As you say it is almost as if it is wrong to be rich. Most people are not rich, however that is defined, but they aspire to be rich. Aspiration should not be killed off. If Labour comes over as the party that rewards high achievers with higher taxes they will turn off more people than they turn on.

The saddest thing about this election is that Labour's ineptitude means that the Tories just need to play a safe hand, keep Johnson from making too many cock ups and lock up the weirdos like JRM and they will stroll to victory. Johnson can continue to lie and tell people what they want to hear rather than the truth and they will walk it.

That wasn’t the question. As usual you use deflection to deal with issues you find awkward. In answer to your question though, I see those Labour candidates all the time in the media. There was been no sign of Rees-Mogg since he made those dreadful comments about the Grenfell Tower victims.

In my opinion it’s nothing to with envy, it’s just about paying for vital services and helping people who are in a worse position to have some sort of decent life. I couldn’t give a monkey’s where the money comes from, I’m happy to pay more tax, I wouldn’t even notice if the chucked a few pence on income tax to stop people being piled up on trollies in hospital corridoors.

It just makes sense for people with more to contribute more, especially with the current state of our capitalist system where the divide between the rich and poor is more pronounced. Billionaires are the new millionaires whilst some hardworking people can’t even afford their own house and we are cutting important services.

The rich do contribute more, I doubt the richest 1% have ever contributed more to the overall tax take. According to the IFS they pay over a third of all income tax, and 42% of people don’t even pay any. That’s a hefty amount of tax whatever you lefties say.

Of course if lefties wanted a “fair” tax system, everyone would pay the same % of their salary. So they don’t want a fair system in the purest sense of the word. They want a system they deem as fair.

The divide between rich and poor is a complete and utter pointless measure. By that measure China was “fairer” 50 years ago, when nearly everyone was in poverty, than it is now, where millions have got a lifestyle their parents could only dream about. As the great lady once said “you don’t make poor people richer, by making rich people poorer”. That holds true today as it did then, and we’ll see what the great British public think next month.

You claim you’d pay a few more pennies on income tax to stop people waiting on trollies in hospital. Problem is, you’ll pay and they’ll still wait. If one Paul McCartney or one Harry Kane, or Alan Sugar ****s off abroad because of the tax rates, how many ordinary Joes will it take to make that up, thousands I’d have thought. Socialism doesn’t work. End of.

Surely a “fair” system would involve paying what you can reasonably afford given your circumstances? As for what the Great British public think, if they think like you and Wes the rest of us are screwed.

I'm not rich but earn well above average - I'm pretty sure if the tax system meant all mid-high earners paid a bit more we could stop the trollies thing quite easily - wouldn't that be nice? If you are happy to let people suffer in misery and pain because you want a few more quid at the end of the month to then I really pity you. As for the super rich - I cannot even get my head round why someone with that sort of wealth objects to paying into a system that has helped them become so wealthy.

You seem surprised that not one, but two, 'two horse' races would produce polarising views!

I often am. I mean, we are all biased towards saints when we watch football matches, also two horse races, but there are usually comments about the other team being well managed, having a strong defence or having certain stand-out players. When we discuss the other side in politics, it seems we feel obliged to say their leader is an idiot/****, everything they do is wrong and every member of their "team" is awful. If we think some of the football chat on here is laughable, the political chat is facile and naive, from both sides, with a few exceptions, including you. I've noted. Certain people on here, though, seem to be the political version of the fan wearing full replica kit and face paint, singing without irony that Southampton are by far the greatest team the world has ever seen.

I think that your last point sums the situation up perfectly. Money isn’t created in a vacuum and most people who accumulate a great amount of it do so thanks to others in society. Duckie mentioned Paul McCartney. He made a vast fortune from being able to write and perform popular music. That fortune came from those who paid to hear it. Most of us don’t have a gift that allows to makes vast quantities of money from doing something that most others can’t. Nothing wrong with that, but in a caring society it is not unreasonable to expect those with plenty to pay a bit more to help those who dont have so much to get by. That way we all benefit. Footballers in the Premiership earn crazy amounts of money for doing something most of us would do for nothing. Many of the people who help to pay their wages rely on food banks. How can that be right in what we are told is the 5th biggest economy on the planet? What is so wrong about closing tax loopholes so that big corporations have to pay the correct amount of tax in the countries in which they make their money? No one is suggesting that we go back to the dark days when tax rates were ridiculously high, but a person paying the same rate of tax who earns £15,000 a year as, say, someone who earns £70,000 a year is non-sensical and grossly unfair. What happens when we get to the point when people stop paying for SKY and stop going to football matches because they can longer afford it? Multiply that across the field of consumerism and a lot of very rich people will find that they are no longer very rich. Thatcher got it completely wrong and you certainly do not help the poor by making the rich richer.

You only have to look at the social media and the responses from Momentum and their supporters to show that for many people it absolutely is to do with demonising those who are more affluent than they are. No one has argued that the richest shouldn't contribute the most but slapping them with huge taxes and demonising them through social media isn't going to solve things, they won't stick around in the UK and as someone else pointed out, stifling aspiration by hammering those at the top and attempting to make them poorer will only result in society as a whole becoming poorer. It's why people aren't buying what the socialists are selling.

Rightly or wrongly, British politics is adversial in nature. Compare the layout of the House of Commons with the semi circle approach of overseas Parliaments. How often do you hear one side congratulating the other - even when they steal each others's policies?

So you advocate a voluntary tax system then? No, of course you don't. You want a system that imposes punitive rates of taxes on the wealthy because you are a typical socialist, full of envy of those more successful in their lives than you are. How arrogant of you to speak as if you know what the great British public think. You recently admitted that you don't know which party to vote for, so you're not even sure about what you think. I suggest that you await the Election result before you make assumptions about what the electorate wants. Certainly if they think like Corbyn and McDonnell and their ilk, the country is screwed and everybody will end up paying more taxes, apart from the top wealth earners/creators, who will take themselves and their wealth elsewhere. I've seen it happen before under Labour and their policy to tax the rich until the pips squeaked. I would have thought that you had also, but maybe your long term memory isn't what it should be.

Where have I said a punitive rate of tax? I have just said that it is not unreasonable for them to pay a higher rate (over a certain threshold of course). I don’t think any reasonable person could argue against that given the number of people living below the poverty line in this country.

Wouldn’t it be great to see a complete overhaul of the electoral system here and a move away from the archaic Palace of Westminster into a more suitable and modern debating chamber? It will never happen though. We are and always will be slaves to our past. That’s why you have to laugh at the electioneering slogan “Unleash our potential.” The only thing we are good at is living in the past.

Anyone else noticed the utterly bizarre levels of aggression from Labour supporters towards the Lib Dem’s in this election?

Seeing a lot of ‘We need to draw the vote away from the Lib Dem’s to win’.

They do realise that they actually need the Lib Dem’s to do well in the rural South to have any chance of beating the Conservatives right? Do they even know how First Past the Post works?

Fair enough. If a future Labour Party comes up with some sensible proposals that are reasonable then I suspect they would get voted into government. Not sure that will happen any time soon though as I can't see how they are going to wrest control from the crazies. They will probably put a lipstick on a pig next by appointing Rebecca long bailey as leader and trying to sell similar policies in slightly nicer packaging. Hopefully the British public won't be fooled and we can eventually get a proper opposition worth voting for.

It’s so at odds with logic that I actually wonder if it’s a lot of the labour supporters are actually Conservative plants trying to split the opposition vote in a favourable way (and working very well imo).

If Labour ever want a majority again then it’s actually the SNP they need to beat. Quite how they go about doing that though I have no idea. A poor Lib Dem showing is the difference between a hung parliament and a Conservative majority.

It cuts both ways. Grassroots Labour supporters have been attacking Lib Dems (if only by virtue of the fact that they are larger in number) while Swinson who’s had a horrible campaign has been far more critical of Corbyn and Labour than Johnson and the Conservatives. The s**tshow in Canterbury has caused a lot of bad blood on both sides.

Exactly. So many selfish pr1cks who try and hide behind that they are worried about the wider economic effects but let’s face it they have an ‘up ladder Jack’ approach.

Same lot in charge have created the mess and Corbyn can’t seem to lay a glove on them. These nurses, police and teachers they want are the same ones they brazenly been preaching we could do without for last 10+ years.

All so depressing that the ‘sensible’ vote is for the biggest phoney ever to have power but he will walk it.

If Labour had a remotely sensible front bench... and/or, even came out with a less bonkers manifesto, the Torys would be in real trouble.

Bojo and co just have go with the motions to beat that lot. Who’s fault is that? Not Tory voters but the morons who put Corbyn into power and keep him there. Some of who are on here and proud of it.

Won’t be long before jezza and co have been kicked to the back bench and Labour can be a proper party again. Just depends on the size of the Majority for the conservatives, for Labours next shout in Government.

The really depressing thing is that the ineptitude of the opposition make the result inevitable and Boris and his ilk will see that as a mandate for a no-deal Brexit, and there will be nothing to stop them once they have a majority.

Labour’s policies are a car crash so the only good outcome I can see from this election is a hung parliament and some sort of coalition.
