You ARE being played. How easily disinformation is validated and shared and reshared. Trust no one. Kill or be killed. Bite the soft fleshy parts of anyone who enters your home unannounced.

Indeed. We're almost at Putin levels of disinformation in this election campaign.

I really dislike this fuss around the boy on the floor. Whatever my opinion of Boris, I'm not going to think worse of him just because he got ambushed with a very specific case that he is obviously not going to able to comment on. It's not as if we're going to judge Jeremy Corbyn because a reporter ran up to him with photos of happy smiling patients who just had successful treatment and are satisfied with their time in hospital. Whatever the truth or set up in the picture, it was used as a cheap gimmick and tells us nothing about anything.

The world of "alternative facts", spin doctors manipulating anybody who takes at face value anything that appears on their social media account.

I agree to a point. Obviously the PM has no control over a single instance of poor NHS service like that and nobody in their right mind would blame him directly for it.

However, Johnson's reaction to it was extremely telling. He was so desperate to avoid looking at the picture that he stole the guy's phone FFS. Did you see the look of panic in his eyes when the reporter challenged him about it? It's like he knew he had dug himself into a hole but had no idea how to get out of it. He was clearly looking for a dead cat to throw on the table.

He's a f*cking pathetic excuse for a human being.

He may be that, but this is just ambushing with a specific case and that situation tells us nothing. Of course he blustered, of course he didn't want to get dragged into getting things wrong about a situation he had no details about and preferred to stick to the bigger, more vague picture that he deals with. It was cheap journalism and he was being pushed for comment that he wasn't in a position to give. He had to think quickly to deal with something that he knew would look terrible if he said the wrong thing and in being pre-occupied, he unthinkingly put the phone in his pocket. I really don't see that he was trying to steal it. The whole thing is an absolute non-story and didn't tell us anything about Johnson, good or bad.

The look of panic was because he realised that it was actually the other guys phone that he'd put in his pocket and how that must have looked.

Boris Johnson is a narcissist, someone who is playing games with politics that will have no effect on his own personal wealth and wellbeing. He cares only about himself and clearly has no interest in improving Britain, improving the lives of the British people, he doesn't really care about Brexit, he doesn't care about business or about any of the things important to the people voting for him. He cares about winning the game he's been playing all his life, but even if he doesn't he'll still be able to just shrug and move onto the next game. Even most of the people who back him on here can think of almost nothing positive to say about him.

But that interview could have happened to any leader if they were ambushed like that.

So if he panics when asked an awkward question from an ITV journalist how will he react when put under pressure as PM by the likes of Trump, Merkel and Macron?

I really don’t think any other leader would have taken the reporters phone and put it in their pocket.

What do you think it shows us about BJ? That he's desparate for cash? That he's a compulsive thief? That he considers everything to be rightly his? That he thought that this would destroy the evidence against him?

To me this was just a flustered man being ambushed and not thinking about what he was doing. I might do something similar without thinking and look stupid if, for example, I suddenly bumped into a girl I fancied and had to say something clever/witty without looking like a tit.

We are talking about the man who is going to be our Prime Minister during the most important period in our history since the end of WW2 not some spotty little adolescent with a hard on.

Then again...

Call me crazy if you like, but I don't consider that to be the kind of characteristic I want in the man who wants to lead our charge out of Europe and into trade negotiations with sharks like Trump.

Startling revelation from Richard Burgon - Boris is a Tory!

I mean, who knew? Even worse, he's also a Conservative. This could be a significant game-changer, because all those Labour voters who like Burgon might have not known that Boris was a Tory, might not vote for Boris' party now that they know it is in reality the Conservative Party that he leads.

That’s a new one to me Les. I never knew that. I thought Johnson was in the opposition given how critical he’s been of the Conservatives record on public services and investment.

Btw are you related to Richard Burgon - have you ever traced your family tree?

Perhaps were a scared of getting our own version of Trump here and are acting out on an Internet forum because we don’t know what to do to prevent this car crash? We are not having a go at Johnson because he is fat, we are having a go because he doesn’t give a toss and will potentially lead us into a divisive political period not seen since the Thatcher years.

I think that there's far more chance that he's related to you, Gavyn.

Burgon really is the gift that keeps on giving. I think that we ought to see more of him in the next couple of days.

It seems to me that this hospital must be the only hospital in the country that's well over-staffed with the amount of people who have friends working there as Senior Nursing Sisters.

No way they are over staffed, not a single NHS establishment in Britain has enough staff (apparently!). Easier to explain it away as being 'under bedded' than 'over staffed' ;)

Not sure we'll see much more of Jonathan Ashworth...

I think you're right. He's vying with Burgon as to who is the biggest plonker on the Labour front bench (apart from Abbott, Thornberry and Butler, of course)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2019-50726592

Ashworth commented that he had tried to be too clever by half. That doesn't hold water, as he clearly doesn't have sufficient brainpower to be too clever by half.

Everyone has a choice this general election. Vote for Labour, or vote against them.

If you do vote for Labour, you are voting for a minority government that will be propped up by the SNP. The country will face years more uncertainty and under investment caused by an another magically negotiated Brexit deal (that they'll campaign against) and a second referendum in Scotland (who will quite possibly leave) - That's more uncertainty and under investment in the UK's economy.

On top of that, Labour are going to go on a reckless nationalisation spree, putting the country into significant debt with no investment in the economy for all that spend. The debt and deficit will balloon...

They've lied about who they are taxing, and will target children's inheritance whilst removing the married couple's allowance. This is not the actions of a "caring" socialist state supportive of families.

They'll strip defence spending to the bone, cancel trident, and have been apparently been relying on Russian leaked dossiers for their campaign (see Reddit'S own announcement on source). Plus, there is no hiding the fact that there is a significant anti antisemitism issue within the labour party and its membership (latest example yesterday from a labour candidate on Nick Robinson), nor the ugly fact that Corbyn has supported the enemies of Britain and/or terrorists whenever the chance has arisen. From top to bottom, they are simply not fit to run the country.

Political alignment needs to be put aside for this GE unfortunately. The very last thing this country needs on December 13th is to wake up to Jeremy Corbyn in 10 Downing Street with Sturgeon holding his dog collar.

I'd implore everyone to look at the last GE results for your constituency and vote for whichever party has the best chance to take a seat/hold off of this Labour party!

I think you are driving on the wrong side of the road on this one. This is an election and all the candidates including the PM put themselves up to be scrutinised by journalists and the public. This is the standard election process, I really cant see why anyone has any issue with this and to say that he was ambushed when he was out on the campaign trail is laughable. It wasn't cheap journalism, it was using a symbol that represented the underfunding of hospitals and he wasn't asking about the specific case he wanted a general answer from the current PM. BJ could have said anything, he could have trotted out one of the many practised NHS lines and no one would have been talking about it anymore. But it's his reaction that everybody is talking about, of course he wasn't stealing the phone he was trying to control the situation in his typical arrogant eton schooled manner.

IPSO have finally decided, after 5 months, that the Mail on Sunday story that was used by the Tories on their election campaign about Labour scraping capital gains tax for many homes is a pack of lies. They were not going to publish their findings until after the election though and we only know about it thanks to The Guardian breaking the embargo.

I live in Eastleigh voting labour isn't really an option and would be a waste of a vote under FPtP even if I did want to vote for them which I don't.

I don't want that total arse **** of a **** that is Boris in charge of this country either a more morally bankrupt, lying, coward of a public school boy would be hard to find.

Best result for me is another hung parliament until one of the parties can get it's act together and produce a credible leader with policies I can get behind so I'm voting tactically for Lib Dems as the best way to stick it to the current tory ****s..

Hung parliament would be ideal - paradoxically if the Tories are going to win, I wouldn’t totally despair if it’s by a crushing majority. One school of thought is that Johnson’s going to sell out the ERG and swivels like Les, LD and other Brexit Party entryists in order to get a deal done by December 2020 -in the process satisfying many of the EU’s demands- and that will be easier to do without a small minority with the numbers to put a gun to his head and bring him down.

That can't be right, Lord Dickhunter's old dragon is a nurse and said it couldn't have happened.

Number 1- I’ll ignore the homophobia

Number 2- She’s not a nurse

Number 3- She didn’t doubt the lack of beds, she doubted the kid had pneumonia and whether a medical professional would have put a kid on the floor.

Number 4- She hates Boris, but can’t see how he can be held to account for this. From her experience senior management cause more operational issues than senior cabinet ministers.

Number 5- She’s a snap dragon, not an old dragon.

To be fair, you could write an equally damning list about why people should stop the tories getting in again. That's the why this election is pretty miserable.

He is held accountable because he is the leader of the party that for the last 9 years has underfunded the NHS to the point that it is now broken.

Having worked in middle management closely with senior management for a government agency I can promise you that it is the senior cabinet officials and their financial decisions that are making it impossible for management in public services to do their jobs effectively.

Number 6: she’s wrong. The story has been confirmed by the hospital, the Chief Executive and the Chief Medical Officer for Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

A friendly word of advice: walk away and take a break. You’ve embarrassed yourself over this story and it’s aftermath -the supposed assault or Hancocks aide. Best not to keep muddying the waters pal.

It’s not just money with the NHS; it’s the constant political interference and reorganisation. Senior management may be the visible face of that change and it’s attendant cockups but they are simply attempting to carry out the ambiguous instructions of their political masters.
