So Arsenal not really supporting Ozil. I don’t know enough about the oppression in China but seems like Arsenal more worried about upsetting the paymasters.

Agree we cant afford to be doing anything to upset our majority owner or our High Profile sponsors (Messrs Lander & Co)

Might be a good way to get Gao & Co to move along if we manage to stay up. Though I agree that to do so now would be a mistake as we’re miles away from looking like a worthwhile investment.

Not sure there woud be much to lose if China decided to stop showing Saints. They might actually get increased TV audiences. I sure as hell find it difficult to watch them at the moment.

Well, they’re basically pursuing a genocide against the Muslim communities in the western regions.

Some might observe that it’s odd that some of the middle eastern countries seem prepared to completely ignore this whilst continuing to strengthen economic and trade ties with China, but then from an ethnic perspective, these Chinese Muslims are nothing like Arabs.

I watched 100 days yesterday evening and they did a piece on this. What surprised me was the only angle they were interested in was whether football clubs can afford to p*ss off China - no mention on whether the allegations were true or not. In fairness Newsnight did a piece not that long ago but it's disappointing they weren't prepared to look at the substance behind the story. That'll be modern journalism for you.

Diplomacy at its finest, but ordinary people have the right to speak out. The biggest superpower ever was called out over Guantanamo for instance, even in the face of Islamic terrorism spreading across the world, but the US is a democracy, generally. But these days money talks the loudest. Africa plundered, cheap replica shirts made in Asian sweatshops, military hardware sold to facist dictators, gas and oil bought from Russian gangsters, the list goes on. Its easy to make a stand when theres little or nothing to lose ( Aparthied in South Africa for instance), but since the western world virtually handed over it's manufacturing base to China over the past 20 years very few governments will want to step on their toes.

There's no doubt the allegations are true, but it's incredibly difficult to report on and sadly interest in the stories has always been low.
