(* Torn between playing JWP out of position, when he's been one of our best midfielders during our recent top 4 form, versus the alternative of playing a weaker RB.)

When do we have to sign players by for them to be eligible for this? Is it lunch time on the 31st? I would assume KWP would be done by then, but whether they'd risk him without training is another question. I'd rather play with a specialist right back in this rather than a square peg, even if he hasn't trained with the team much (as long as he's fully fit).

If the report from Give it to Ron on the KWP thread is accurate then it looks like we'll have the signing completed and announced tomorrow.

Probably still be too soon to throw him in against Liverpool though. If it was a home game against a lesser team then it might be OK, but if he gets roasted on his debut for us then it could destroy his confidence completely.

Fancy Ings to score although I think they'll have too much for us in midfield. Dreading to see who is at RB for us :uhoh:

Mane out is great for us although I think Armstrong is incredibly important in our 4-2-2-2 system which levels it out.

3-1 Liverpool

Liverpool play away to West Ham tomorrow night, Moyes desperate for points as they get sucked into the bottom 3, hopefully Liverpool suffer a few minor knocks and decide to start a few 1st team players winter breaks early before the weekend.

We’re playing well away from home but no chance of winning this, draw would be incredible, hopefully a respectable score line but realistically 3-1 Liverpool

Should we do a quick collection and send it to Antonio to do a job on VVD, and Noble on Saleh?

I think Ralph May switch to three at the back for this one. Would always have been an option at Liverpool, but the right back situation may make that an easier decision and play JWP at right wing back. So I think it could be:

Alex

Stephens, Yoshida, Bednarek

JWP, Romeu, PEH, Bertrand

Boufal

Ings, Obafemi

Thought same thing earlier Liverpool threat is from full backs , wing backs stopping them getting forward and 3 in middle defending crosses

IF we perform as we did in the recent weeks, or even better (RH: "We are getting better each week") then 1 or 3 points can be taken from Liverpool.

But they are so strong, will be a challenge for the defense. Maybe a fast goal from Ings and, when they attack for the equalizer, make another one or two :-)

That does solve the issue of not having a right back, and puts JWP slightly further forward. Yes I can see this, although changing the formation that has done us proud of late is risky. No Mané is definitely a plus for us, but they’ll still have enough quality. I’d love for us to give them a good game though. I think a loss, but not a bad one, maybe 3-2 to keep it exciting. Hojbjerg with a 30 yard screamer to open the scoring. Ings with our other.

McCarthy, Stephens, Bednarek, Yoshida, JWP, Romeu, Hojbjerg, Bertrand, Redmond, Long, Ings. Subs: Gunn, Danso, Smallbone, Djenepo, Boufal, Adams, Obafemi.

Would love to be the first team to beat them this season, think most world football fans would love us as well, but highly unlikely.

A few things in our favour, them playing today so having less rest and Mane being likely out, but still a massive ask.

I think we will give them trouble, we have shown we are a dangerous away team but I reckon they'll either fluke a goal, or get a wonder goal or some favourable VARing to get a 2-1 win.

I think we have to be compact at the back, like at Palace, Leicester and Chelsea as Liverpool are very good on the counter.

So for me

Mc Carthy

JWP Stephens Bednarek Bertrand

Djenepo Romeu PEH Redmond

Ings Long

Keep a solid back 8 and try long balls up the channels to Long to get their full backs looking over their shoulder

We play a very similar style to the Bindippers so maybe Ralph has been a very keen follower of Klopp's fashion. They will certainly not be taken by surprise by our aggressive in-their-faces style as they do exactly the same thing. This might come down to a match-up of quality, who can play keep ball longest and everyone as scared as **** to give it away at which Hojberg should excel.

Might not turn out the way most expect, a draw is eminently possible 2-2 or 1-1 - it's hard to imagine them not scoring. First defeat for them this season is a pious hope 'though

When sweepers were popular the way to counter them was to push one of the strikers on them – almost like having a striker marking a sweeper. It took away their time and space, and often their composure.

Of course, VVD is much more than a sweeper. So much of Liverpool’s defensive shape and solidity revolves around him, and he’s the initial launch point for a lot of their attacks.

It would be interesting to see how those things look if Long was snapping at VVD’s heels all through the game. It’s not like we’d be losing our main goal scoring threat by sacrificing Long like that.

More concerned that the Spurs and Burnley games are so close and we really need to win both. Who do we rest. I'd imagine we'd play Ings in the league and rest him Wednesday. Maybe Obafemi v Spurs, back to Long/Ings for Burnley.

This is really where we need extra midfielders a

There is TEN days between them. How much rest do they need.

I have one of those feelings... they're going to batter us all game, we nick it with the last kick of the game. Van Dijk own goal off his penis.

6-0 to us, Own Goals by Lallana, Ox-C, Van Dijk, a double by Lolvren, and an Ings screamer from 40 yards. MOTM Walker-Peters. If Carlsberg did perfect games...
