I thought you Tories were supposed to be aspirational? Yet you are happy to let crime go unpunished for the sake of a few quid in tax.

What about littering, pets fouling the footpaths, parking on corners / pavements, swearing at other road users, having sex in public, sounding your car horn without good reason, drinking alcohol under 18, eating whilst driving, cycling on the pavement, pocketing change when given the wrong amount, being drunk in public, vacuuming between 18:00 and 08:00 on a weekday or 13:00 to 08:00 on a Saturday or Sunday?

ALL of these are crimes, so I assume you can put together a fully costed budget highlighting how much it would cost to ensure that every single one of them is adequately dealt with - it would be defeatist not to bother, right? From that, you can tell us just how much more we will all have to pay in tax so these crimes don't go unpunished....

It’s not just those sort of crimes though, people are getting burgled and next to nothing is being done. There is obviously a balance between how much we can do and how much we are willing to pay - I guess some people are just tighter than others.
