They need to be chalking up all these fckers taking advantage of the furlough scheme.

Fact that everyone thinks these companies are a month away from collapse without being bailed out by the govt is laughable. Clearly some will be but where have all the profits gone so quickly?

Said before should put people on a different tax code afterwards cos the likes of Ineos are going to be sure to doing their level best to not give anything back when they fully up and running.

Close a few more libraries, freeze social workers pay..... will be the clamour from the gammon.

One-fifth of FTSE 100 companies tap government wage scheme

This rises to nearly 50% among industrial and consumer discretionary companies.

I can't see a single post that defends Coogan. Just posts that point out he won't be alone and that he's one person and, in the grand scheme of things, this ain't news.

For what it's worth, unless there's some good reason we're unaware of, i think he's a bellend for furloughing domestic staff.

But it is a nice simple story for nice simple people.

There are restrictions on using the furlough scheme. Staff have to have been on a PAYE scheme and the employer has to be registered for online PAYE.

It can't be repeated too often, the employer doesn't get a penny of the money. It all goes to the employee.

In many cases it's either that or get laid off.

Also, not every Remainer or Lib Dem, Tory centrist is a 'leftie'.

Were did anybody suggest that Remoaners were lefties? Many are, but then again, so were many on the right of the political spectrum. The Brexit question did not divide the country strictly along political lines. Ken Clarke has been pro-EEC/EU for as long as Corbyn has been anti it.

And all of them open themselves to criticism if they employed the same tactics as Coogan if they furloughed the likes of their gardeners and housekeepers. It is very interesting to note the support on here for Coogan over something that is arguably indefensible given his well known leftie political views. Apart from there being little reason for the gardener in particular not being able to carry on his work in presumably quite a large garden whilst self-isolating, most will wonder why he is using a government scheme designed to protest businesses, not wealthy private individuals. The next time this champagne socialist uses the platform he has gained as a media minor celebrity to spout his vitriol at the Conservative government, he should not be surprised if the interviewer ripostes with accusations of hypocrisy because of his readiness to avail himself of taxpayers' money to save him putting his hands in his pocket to pay his staff.

He might like to reflect on the letter of support for Corbyn to which he was a signatory which stated "Labour's election manifesto under Jeremy Corbyn's leadership offers a transformative plan that prioritises the needs of people and the planet over private profit and the vested interests of a few".

But the furlough scheme is state handouts to help people stay in work for the good of society - surely something a socialist would agree with?

Remember when all of the perma-scared were dishing out the aux outrage at all the “idiots” in London parks a month ago? How’s their second wave coming along?

This makes no sense pal.

First, if by the idiots in London’s parks, you’re referring to the pics in Hackney (coinciding with media leaks that Johnson was going to relax the lockdown), it was only 10 days or so ago. Not a month.

Second, we were never going to see a second wave immediately, even with idiots taking liberties. Take London: thanks to the effectiveness of the lockdown (which fwiw many Londoners started observing before it was formally introduced), the number of infections (level) and r number (rate) in the capital have both been suppressed to the point that where the virus is virtually nonexistent today.

Needless to say, a gradual return to normality and previous levels of social interaction (thankfully not the case as most people are exercising care) will only ensure it starts to spread again (relative to people not acting like dîckheads) and given London’s starting point, there will be a considerable lag before we see large aggregate impacts.

Any more strawmen?

I'm sure that you recognise the difference between supporting the furlough scheme as a good and necessary measure during these difficult times, and abusing it when it wasn't designed for millionaire luvvies like Coogan.

Of course, it was

Either way, the second point holds. Any thoughts or are you keep them strawmen coming?

”a month ago” sort of gives that away, doesn't it?

And there was me thinking you were far too intelligent for this forum.

So no response to the second question

Your second point is largely irrelevant seeing as you based it on an assumption I was talking about last week

We would have seen an increase in infections and possibly even deaths by now if lots of people being in the same place outdoors was dangerous. It’s been 5 weeks since Easter.

You silly sausage.

How long is "a considerable lag" in your opinion?

I took it that you meant Easter.

Hard to tell pal as Easter was more than a month ago while there was a long, specific discussion on here of London parks (with photos) from 10-12 days ago (check the post history). Needless to say, I clearly qualified things by saying “if”, as i couldn’t be sure (you do know what “if” means).

Now do you want to take a stab at the second question as your little friend seems to be struggling.

Well significantly longer than idiots who facetiously ask how the second wave is coming along. HTH.

Given the current level of new infections (in double digits) and R number in London (less than 0.5 the last time I looked), it could be quite a while -of course that’s dependent on the majority of people continuing to act responsibly and not following the cues of a minority.

Whatever that means apart the sound of you stewing in your own juices.

Still no answer to the second question and the crux of the matter. Last chance pal as I’ve got better things to do than embarrass you.

It will be abused by rich businesses up and down the country, one comedian using it for their staff is not really worth p!ssing your pants over.

What a disappointment. You're usually so concise in your responses. What have current levels in London got to do with the rate of infection if there were widespread changes to the lockdown policy, such as the return of schooling, loosening of travel restrictions and the misinterpretation of the restrictions by idiots who decide to travel to popular tourist destinations (such as London)?

And just as matter of interest, Gavyn, what foresight allows you to determine the height/size of fellow posters on an anonymous forum? We have some idea of what size you might be, because you are identifiable, but how do you know this of other posters on here?

Current level and rate are critical to understanding when a second wave might occur. Just as importantly they reflect the impact of past behaviour and actions, not least how successful they were. Level and rate are time-dependent. Keep up.

I'm sure that it will be abused by other rich people all over the place. You seem to have missed the point, that they are in the main largely anonymous, whereas Coogan is an opinionated leftie luvvie. I'm not p*ssing my pants; I'm enjoying poking fun at the hypocrite when he's been found out, in much the same way as the left wing press would, if they found about a similar abuse by say somebody like Farage for example.

Nope both of you have singularly failed to answer the second and critical point. Childishly saying something over and over doesn’t make it so, though I’m sure my other little fans and stalkers will be weighing in behind you.

To repeat, its very simple pal: with a low r and level of infection (for whatever reason but let’s just say the success of lockdown and voluntary social distancing), it will take some time for the virus to build back up in the community and for us to see a second wave, even with some people acting like idiots. In much the same way that trialling vaccines in the community and hoping a participant will be get infected can be frustratingly slow. Do you understand why people are calling for challenge trials?

You sound just like Sir Humphrey, obfuscating to get out of a sticky situation. In the fullness of time, when the time is right, etc.

Just for you:

"In view of the somewhat nebulous and inexplicit nature of your remit, and the arguably marginal and peripheral nature of your influence within the central deliberations and decisions within the political process, there could be a case for restructuring their action priorities in such a way as to eliminate your liquidation from their immediate agenda."

And you appear to have left my second question unanswered

I repeat, I have no qualms about Coogan favouring the furlough scheme as a socialist. My beef is with him abusing it, taking advantage of something that patently wasn't aimed at him. But go ahead excusing him on the basis that other wealthy people are doing the same if you wish.

Yes because I was simply responding to a specific point in a post. And nothing more.

Blimey, this is a first. Gavyn unable to answer a simple question inviting his opinion on what constitutes "a long lag" in days/weeks, when he spoke of that in a post.

And he still hasn't enlightened us on how he is able to discern the physical attributes of anonymous posters on here either.

Perhaps Coogan ought to consider as a socialist millionaire, that the money being paid by taxpayers towards his gardener and housekeeper, will eventually largely come out of funds available to pay for public services, unless it is paid for out of increased taxation. Personally, were I as wealthy as Coogan, in the same situation I would continue to employ the two of them, regardless of whether they actually did the work until the virus was over. But then I'm not a socialist luvvie.

I expect if he’s a socialist he favours the increased taxation option. As long as he pays his fair share of tax I don’t see the issue because he will probably more than pay for his gardener’s wages.
