Actually, Gavyn Davies is some sort of fund manager, whose funds fail to keep pace with inflation or even the types of return you'd get from holding premium bonds. He is not British and has a dislike for "Tories" and privately educated "toffs". This is reflected in the fact that he is arrogant and rude to people he doesn't know, on a football forum. It was imbibed in him from an early age as he was bullied at the first school he attended, a third rate grammar school in Southampton whose most famous alumni was Benny Hill. Still our Gavyn worked his African socks off, despite being bullied by most of his classmates and gained good grades at "A" level which allowed him entry into Oxbridge. Unfortunately for him, the bullying didn't stop, as most Oxbridge undergraduates were public school and he was grammar school. He thought that he didn't have many friends apart from other misfits, because of this fact, but it is apparent that he hasn't got many friends because he is arrogant and rude. The class struggle didn't stop there for our Rhodesian immigrant, because his job at Goldman Sachs exposed him to traders who were either toffs or barrow boys. Neither of these types particularly like to be lectured by an arrogant grammar school lad on macroeconomics, when they were making the bulk of the profits and despite calling him pal, he really wasn't. Still after years of brown-nosing he made partner and that was when he hit the jackpot. The "big-bang" deregulation introduced by the Thatcher government meant that partners at Goldman Sachs, like our mate Gavyn, made out like bandits when Goldman joined the Stock Market. Made out like a £150 million pound bandit. Still, I say good luck to him, but you'd expect an immigrant grammar school boy like him to show a sliver of gratitude to Thatcherism and her commitment to deregulation. Not a bit of it. Our hero advised the Treasury to join the ERM. We all know how that ended up.

However, armed with a shed load of moolah and the chance to gain his revenge on those privately educated toffs who called him "pal", but secretly hated him, he continued his brown nosing with, er, Brown. We all remember Brown. He was the socialist genius who sold all our gold at a discount and hated working class "bigots", like Gillian Duffy. Our hero was quickly employed as an adviser to Brown. He was rewarded by being made chairman of the BBC, a stint which was quickly ended when David Kelly slashed his wrist, although there was far more bloodshed in Blair's misguided support for the invasion of Iraq. I must admit, you'd think that with his track record, shurlock/Gavyn would be a bit more humble, but not a bit of it. The arrogance and rudeness goes to the bone and there is no wonder he comes on here for his social interaction. If he was in a pub 99% of people would either walk away, bored to tears, or give him a slapping...

Come on GM there's no need for this. It is basically artistic licence what you put. I do understand that you have taken a bit from him and want to give a bit back. Its sad these debates get quite so nasty but that is forums for you I suppose. If Shurlock is Gavyn then he is an interesting man who could give us some insight to that worlsd.

It all started when he made a crass, sexist and insulting comment about my daughter. I have NEVER insulted his daughter, Peppa...

Now now. Just because he is more clever than a thick as s hit bloke who went to a posh school, flunked his A levels and ended up scraping a degree from Pompey Poly.

Now, now, I expect that GM is far more successful than you, unless you are going to prove otherwise, so does that make you thicker than him?

I have no idea how successful GM is but I certainly didn't flunk my A levels and end up at Pompey Poly.

Why do you always reply on his behalf? Is Wes Tender the other log in of Guided Missile?

I do have some idea of how successful GM is, but have no idea of how successful you are. You are a bit of a snob, also your post suggest that you are an arrogant elitist like many of the remainers. Education at a tender age isn't necessarily a good metric by which to judge people's abilities or indeed intelligence. Many people become successful subsequently despite not achieving exam or degree success. It says a lot about your character when you look down your nose at others in such a condescending manner.

Have you never replied on somebody else's behalf? I'm pretty sure you have indulged yourself frequently.

Indeed.

I bet Richard Branson, Alan Sugar et al regret not going on to do Media Studies at Uni, a Masters in Quantum Physics or a Doctorate in political sciences. I bet they're crying their eyes out on there multi million pound super yatchs

I think those that do well academically, but fail to turn their academic successes into real world successes, are probably the most bitter and arrogant of all. Their academic achievements give them a sense of self worth, even if they've got **** all to show for it.

At least Gavyn turned his academic success into something tangible, so fair play to him.

Boris continuing to 'play a blinder';

"THE pound has plummeted against the euro and US dollar with Boris Johnson set to throw down the gauntlet to the EU."

https://www.express.co.uk/finance/city/1218217/pound-to-euro-exchange-rate-GBP-sterling-US-dollar-Brexit-no-deal-boris-johnson

I wonder if anyone will reply claiming that I don't really understand that this is all just posturing, and that both the EU and the UK will now work all the harder to ensure that no-deal does not, in fact, happen.

He sounds unhinged. I feel sorry for rich people who are thick. They never get the full respect of their peers.

Alan Sugar doesn’t have basic literacy so no wonder he’s permanently chippy.

And Branson is dyslexic, so they really do put the academic-achiever-real-life-under-achiever types to shame.

No wonder they're so bitter

Morning, campers. The good news keeps coming. I hope Gavyn Davies is following my insightful analysis of the macroeconomic prospects for the UK, post Brexit. His former employer, Goldman apparently agrees with me, while his funds continue to underwhelm:

A-pound-coin-with-an-arrow-up_trans_NvBQzQNjv4BqGXMM-PwaaRmu6LRYDLf3Ck6mfKD5Bhw7f6w0qSCpJCM.jpg?imwidth=1400

General election result could see pound rally to pre-referendum level of $1.45

Currently down to 1.31 and going the wrong way. The $1 50 enjoyed just before the referendum is even further away. What a shame that Guided Missile got it wrong again.

By the way Les there is no need to reply this time on behalf of your "friend " GM. Even you must admit what we all know that he doesn't understand Foreign Exchange markets .

You mean all you remoaners? GM isn't an acquaintance of mine, Thame. Sorry. I don't need to speak on his behalf any more than you do for the several remoaners on here who hunt as a pack against any voice of dissent towards their opinions. As for the rise and fall of the £, then you appear to have overlooked that you lot crow when it goes down, so you must expect the opposite situation when it rises. I expect that GM does it just to rile you remoaners and you fall for it every time.

I would be happier with a large yacht and plenty of money. But if I had them, then it would make the likes of you bitter and twisted.

Only when they don't know their own self worth and need to cling to a framed degree certificate to feel good about themselves

When I first went to the States, full of myself, my degree, my patents and my new job, I always remember a guy in the maintenance department asking me, "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?". I had no answer and learned to STFU, learn from others, whatever their background and work hard. He was a black electrician from New Jersey and I owe him a lot. You can do a lot of good with money...

Just been out into my local to do some Xmas shopping and met one of my clients who is a Welsh speaker outside. (In SE England BTW) He was speaking Welsh to the person who he was with who turned out to be a relative. The relative responded in Welsh as I arrived and said hello. A middle aged women who went past us made an audible comment about being Polish and going back to their own country. Is that the level of xenophobia Brexit has brought us to?

Don't be so touchy, it was an attempt at a light-hearted comment. You Brexiteers should stop being so angry and aggressive - you won ffs !

Quite right. It comes to something when our racists can’t even tell someone to go back to the right country!

GM cannot delight in winding people up. He is such a big girl's blouse that he has everyone he doesn't agree with on ignore so is unable to gauge reaction to his posts.

Tell us about your patents, genuine interest.

Separately, how much of a c*** were you being to the maintenance guy to elicit a question like that?

So, today legislation will be proposed and enacted by Parliament which will provide, in law within the first 100 days of this new government, £33.9 billion extra funding per year to the NHS . For the benefit of Diane Abbott and others, that is nearly double the £350 million a week promised by Vote Leave. So, for those that didn't believe the promise on the bus, I guess you were right. It was an underestimate.

Good news that wandering village idiot Steve Bray will no longer be braying "Stop Brexit" through his loudspeaker on College Green outside the Houses of Parliament. Presumably all those other remoaners who gathered there alongside him with their EU flags and banners will also have realised that their protests are now pointless, so why bother? Bray was aided in making up his mind following standing for the Lib Dumbs in the General Election and coming in 6th and losing his deposit. Maybe during the campaign he wore his stupid hat and cape and voters thought he was from the Monster Raving Looney Party.

I always suspected that the BBC and other broadcasting media were perfectly content to have this idiot interrupting their broadcasts either verbally or by standing in the background with his banners. It would have been simple to have set up a soundproofed room or to have held broadcasted interviews elsewhere, but the remoaner media were quite content to show any sort of dissent to Brexit.

Additionally, it looks as if Bercow's ruling that Big Ben will not chime on the day we officially are out of the EU will now be overturned. Full speed ahead too perhaps for the commemorative coins and stamps and the additional Independence day Bank Holiday.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with a Brexit dividend and everything to do with extra borrowing.

To be accurate, the funding is planned to increase year on year so that in 5 years time it will be that much higher than today, not allowing for inflation. It is not £33bn in the next financial year.

I hope you don't expect me to engage a pantomime argument with you. Heard a bit of anecdotal stuff like this on social media but never heard anything said out loud. It happened. To be fair its the one and only time I've been in earshot of anything like this Could go into more details, but quite frankly I can't be arsed to engage with a class A bellend. Now run along!

A similar thing didn't happen to my daughter when she showed support to some EU citizens on FaceBook, she was told to 'go back to where you come from'. The antagonist had no further response to her posting 'What, Blackpool ?'.

I note that we seem to be lacking in graphs showing that the Pound has fallen against both the Euro and the Dollar this afternoon. Presumably this is not due to Boris 'playing a blinder'.

;)

Wouldn't be too preoccupied about daily movements and noise (leave that to the rookies and hobbyists); but it was explained in no uncertain terms that uncertainty and sterling weakness were very likely to return given the transition period ends in December 2020 forcing another cliff-edge. The only thing that has caught me out by surprise is the government's active desire to seek out uncertainty so quickly into its term (rather than as negotiating redlines meet reality) with childish, counterproductive grandstanding.

I was in the ale house this afternoon. The bar maid had an Australian accent. I remarked that Boris was proposing a points based immigration system when we left the EU and she would be treated the same as a German chick. She said “fair dinkum to Boris” and the whole bar cheered.
