Pochettino's Future

Recommended Posts

Makes interesting reading, and if the view of the Tottenham fans is that Pochettino is just 'Andre Villas-Boas without the trophies' he may well be on a hiding to nothing there - and if he does defect to north London I hope (and expect) that to be the case...

Citing win ratios like Glasgow in his pomp - they really are a bunch of two-bit f**kwits.

Is that any suprise? Best Manager we have had in years and its been obvious to all except Saints what was going to happen since about February...

Should be enjoying our best ever season, but may well start next season with none of Shaw, Lallana, Scneiderlin and Jay Rod in the team.

You don't know that, no one does. Wait and see what happens. No way j rod will go, seriously doubt someone will pay that much for someone with a cruciate ligament injury.when it all happens we can panic then but might not be true.

Here's a scenario. Arsenal lose today's fa cup, Wenger resigns, we get Wenger. I can but dream...

I genuinely cannot believe there are a number of arsenal fans who want them to lose today as they think Wenger will be sacked if they do.

Playing Golf yesterday and one of the lads works in sports media (Saints fan too), as the 4 of us ambled round football popped up on the agenda, I commented that you would think we had just been relegated the way the Vultures are circling above our team, this chap said a pretty reliable ITK friend of his mentioned another Spanish speaking manager is on Levy's radar.

One of the more trusted Spanish journos on twitter reckons quique Flores has been contacted by several premiership teams.

TBF though this is a little sensationalist and harsh, Glasgow has some key points here, mopo hasn't shown any affinity to the club or fans and I cant say I've warmed to him that's not to say he doesn't have skill as a Manager he clearly has but I don't feel has enough about him to be classed as "irreplaceable" you cant really argue with point 7 either his style is all or nothing in the hard pressing game with no real Plan B when it doesnt work. We were always going to be a stepping stone for him & you can't really blame the man for that I guess

Except that is not "The End" of the argument is it ?

Key point for me is that MP appears to have the confidence of our key players, and if he leaves it causes uncertainty amongst the squad, and increases the likelihood of an exodus. This for me anyway is why MP is central to our potential now.

You stop short of suggesting a viable alternative, who will immediately gain the trust of the squad, any suggestions ?

I'm not ITK by any stretch, but think we can safely assume that despite the Germanic links of owner and RK, that Klopp is not likely to be interested in coming to us.

I don't think the way to deal with Glasgow is to ban him like many do, I think the mods should ban people who engage with him and feed his ****.

I don't have a problem with him personally but after reading his trolling attempt I thought no one would take the bait but then one and then another and another and it just made me think, if the mods won't deal with him, then deal with the people who fuel it. Just saying.

Without entering into the debate about GS's posting history, he does make some interesting and valid points about "MoPo" on this page. I may not agree with them all, but don't see why they can't be discussed or responded to.

Interesting comments from the scousers - probably a load of b******ks but it is still a perception that is crystallising out there.

I really do think that this new board is all business and no football. They've no appreciation of the fans or that side of the game. They have books to balance, money to make and a squad full of assets. Unless they're willing to be 'educated,' they'll happily collect money and see of their best players before looking for direct replacements on smaller fees who can be sold at a profit in three years time.

Right now, Southampton could sell Lallana, Rodriguez, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Lovren, Clyne, Fonte, Wanyama and Cork at higher fees than what they paid for them. Some much, much higher. They've then got Ward-Prowse, Chambers, Reed, Gallagher and a famed academy to step into the breach and be sold off all over again in a few years, complimented by imports from abroad. I think they'll become England's answer to a Porto or an Udinese (within reason and our league's technicalities). They'll always have a stock of good players who can for the most part be moved on quickly and at a big profit.

Time will tell and this of course is entirely my opinion, but I think that's the road they're heading down. Ashley seems happy to employ a similar route at Newcastle and regardless of fan hatred, he's doing quite nicely off them.

Agree with all this. There's no reason we couldn't get Lallana and Lovren, Southampton aren't exactly sending out any sort of "hands off" warnings to clubs interested in their players. They've hit the glass ceiling and with Cortese gone they aren't going to alter their business model to try and smash through it, their best players are looking at taking the next step in their careers and Southampton aren't giving any sort of indication that they will prevent that.

I genuinely believe that this new Southampton board will sanction any sale under the right circumstances. And by circumstances I mean money. The very first thing that Hofstetter said after joining the board was that they had 'inherited a difficult situation financially. On top of that, The Saints still owe £27m in outstanding transfer fees (any chance some of that's for Lovren and they'd be happy to make a quick profit and remove the debt?) and as far as I know, still owe around £30m for their new training ground and facilities.

Lallana and Shaw make big financial sense to sell at this moment. Academy graduates (despite Bournemouth's clause) who'd bring in fees not offset by previous expenditure. They could comfortably make £50m on this pair and clear up some of their financial problems. I really want to see us test the waters with a bid for Lovren. I'll repeat what I wrote in another thread: If we can walk away from negotiations with Southampton £40m poorer but with those two secured as LFC signings, we'll have done brilliantly. Fantasy maybe, but not beyond reality.

I think Southampton will cement their place as a selling club in the next few years and will not turn their nose up at any healthy profit they can turn on a player, however recently they were signed.

Urgh, poor ****ers...the Soton fans that is. What happened to making sure prospective new owners had all the wherewithal to take over a football club?

Fair enough then mate, if its a case of, if we dont get them someone else will, then we should go for it then.

Yeah, I do feel really sorry for them (good-will that will probably wear thin if the Lallana pursuit becomes a saga). Got an exciting team with a mix of good imports and top home grown talent. They've also played the best football to watch in the league this season (with the exception of Man City and ourselves). But they're about to be dismantled, unless they make some personnel changes at the executive level. Hopefully the fact that they have such a conveyor-belt of talent from the academy will help to maintain some of their identity.

If titles means ruthlessness though, then I'd be happy to see us take Lallana and Lovren from them. It's not as if they won't be handsomely compensated.

Lovren will be a tough one, come to think of it. You would think with potentially Pochettino, Shaw and Lallana all being on their way, they would want to set a stop to all the exits at a certain point. They'll be aware that they could potentially be in a relegation fight, if they went that far.

That's true, but with their youth infrastructure they would still be competitive I reckon. Even if they lost Shaw, Lallana, and Lovren (who are the 3 biggest potential sales), they'd still have Rodriguez, Lambert, Cork, Davis, Ward-Prowse, Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Clyne, Fonte, Chambers, and Boruc. And that is before they reinvest any of the £60-70m they'd likely get from that trio (£20-25 Lallana, £30m Shaw, £15-20m Lovren). If they pay off their outstanding £30m debt they'd still have at least about £30m to play with based solely on what is available from sales, which is a tidy sum for a club with a rich history of developing and promoting from within.

Here it is...

Possibly, but lots of men in their 60's look very similar to that! However, doesn't tell you very much. If he was negotiating a contract with Saints, he would be in Southampton, if he was negotiating a 'get-out' clause on MP's contract he would be there also.

I doubt we have more to spend than champions league Liverpool

Jesus Christ

From SSN

Liverpool banked over £97million from the Premier League prize fund and television money this season and Rodgers could have between £40million to £60million at his disposal in the summer if he offloads a few unwanted players.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11669/9312459/transfer-news-liverpool-boss-brendan-rodgers-wants-multi-dimensional-signings

So if we have £57million (if Shaw goes to Man U) then yeah we might

For me the most important man at a fc is a good manager. Reports of 120k pw sound expensive, but saints must and I expect will offer mp an attractive deal. This will be the 1st major decision this summer & rightly so.

If we can sign him up, then I am confident we will have a decent squad next season. If he goes, it could be carnage.

I'm not sure how true the "£6m a year offer" is, but at what point would you consider it to much to be paying him? There is a limit to everything, even in modern football, and I'd say anything over £100k a week has definitely passed the sensible point.
