What's your funeral song?

Recommended Posts

For me it's Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, as I think it has a good message and ultimately will make everybody really tap their feet and feel happy...

...or if I really want to drag it out, Shine on you Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd.

Any good suggestions?

"In My Life" The Beatles

"Into the Mystic" Van Morrison

"For A Dancer" Jackson Browne

something from Gabriel Faure's "Requiem Mass"

the "Adagietto" movement from Mahler's 5th symphony

It's gonna be a long service!!

Ever since seeing the opening scenes of Live and Let Die I have always fancied a New Orleans Jazz band playing very somberly then suddenly ramping it up and banging out OWTS at a jolly pace to cheer the place up.

It's a good job you don't live in the UK and intend to have your last service at the local crematorium, Hamilton.

I recently helped organise a funeral. We were allotted 30 minutes before they carried the next corpse in. By the time someone reads a eulogy, recites a poem, says a prayer and sings a hymn there isn't enough time left for a medley of the stiff's top 20 all-time favourite hits!

We had that at Gary's as everyone was going in.

I haven't a clue what I would have played, it would have to be something that would make people smile though.

Muse - Citizen Erased.

Seems thematically kinda apt; plus it's probably my favourite song and everybody would have to wait an awkward 7 and a half minutes while it plays. Job done.

They used In My Life over the closing credits on Not The Nine O'clock News when John Lennon was shot. It caused a tear or two in the SOG household.

I'm not a theist, so we can skip the poem, the prayer, and the hymn. Time for more of my music!
