20/21 Kit

Hatch

Recommended Posts

In the very beginning when we wore sashes, players put the sashes over the top of their shirts as they were seperate.
it’s noticeable in pictures of the time,in team photos players had them over the left shoulder And some had them over the right shoulder.
I wonder if that is the reason the sashes run differently on the two shirts revealed today.

Kits look ok. Not a fan of the shield around the badge, reminds of bit of 2006 flybe kit. Much prefer the third to the home. Lets see what the away brings. Honestly more interested in the training gear which i hope is better than the last few years

The UA baseball cap that matches the training gear  Ralph has been wearing the last couple of games, looks like he has made a mad dash from riding winner in  the 4pm at Ascot

No infant kits available for pre order. Must be the only club who don’t offer a kit for anyone under 5, ridiculous.

They ordered infant kits last year, but UA just never made them.

Home kit is vile. Just hope nobody buys it.

What is the matter with tradition, Saints are red and white stripes and black shorts.

Always have been and always should be.

White with red sash is a perfectly acceptable shirt -you can muck about with them. and gold is very good, reminiscent of the old gold and black of circa 67.

Please don't buy the home kit, only way to teach them a lesson.

We played in halves and quarter and, yes, sashes before the stripes.

I am not so attached to red-and-white stripes; too many other clubs have it too. These kits are growing on me, hope the away is a dark blue/light blue or dark blue/yellow combination with sash too.

First reaction is that I would have preferred stripes and in general I like stripes. However my favourite kit is the one from - unfortunately - the Pellegrino season, and I also own the sash kit from 2010/11. Add to that the fact that UA seem intent on doing something weird with their striped shirts and refuse to let go of the should/chest block template, I'm prepared to withhold any ire for this one. At least it has a decent amount of red and white on it, unlike our effort from 2013/14.

I wish they could have found a way for the sponsor to be a little neater and inkeeping with the sash though. And considering we only used the same design 10 years ago I don't think it's massively innovative. But UA regularly disappoint on that front.

Funnily enough on the promotional picture of the home shirt, the background (red & white separated with a thick black line) strikes me as a potential 'different' design we could have - red & white halves similar to Feyenoord. It would look smart, still be red and white, closer to "stripes" than a lot of other designs and not many teams play in red & white halves.

The sponsor wouldn't be so bad if they didn't have the Chinese writing underneath as well.

Yeah - it would look ok if it was just the logo or just the text, but the two together (as well as english and chinese text) is too much.

It's important for our sponsor to be clearly displayed so they can raise their profile from a non existent business with a mysteriously large marketing budget to an internationally recognised brand specialising in.... whatever it is they pretend to do.

Does anyone know if we'll be able to get the BLM badge on the shirts alongside the Premier league and virgin badges?

It means nothing without an NHS badge there too. Got to get a poppy on there too if you're a completist.

Not sure why people are upset about a Chinese logo, if anything I would prefer a logo I can't read or decipher. We can get nostalgic about the eras of our previous sponsors but how much do you really want to pay for the sake of plastering 'Virgin' or 'Tools' on the front of your shirt?

Will be interesting to see the away shirt. If we can't agree over the red and white sashes, it could get interesting on here when it turns out to be blue. 🍿

Historic kit, celebrating 55 years since Clydebank were elected to the Scottish Football League (well 54 actually).

Like the slash usually, but prefer the red on white, there is too much red here for my liking.

Well spotted.

Could you imagine the reaction if Celtic ditched the hoops in favour of a green shirt with a white sash?

These are all Celtic home kits...

They ditched their 'traditional' stripes for hoops, then over time hoops became the 'tradition'.

For 55 years Southampton's 'traditional' kit was blue shorts and blue socks!

Could you imagine the reaction if we had Saints Web in the 1950s when Saints gave up their traditional blue shorts and blue socks!?

Staying with stripes year on year gets dull.  Have a look at a lot of English sides that have played in stripes down the years and while they all mix it up a lot with the stripes, plenty also go for non-striped options from time to time as well.

I personally like it when Saints mix it up, so long as its done well and there's some sort of nod to the past.  The Cortese abominations were awful, mind, because they failed to do that.  But the Rank Xerox inverse Ajax, the Hummel Denmark half and half, the 125 years sash, the recent Rank Xerox copy, and now this sash.  Yep, I'm a fan, especially as they get paired with a traditional shorts and socks combo.

Nice to see MLG warming up one of his particular favourite routines. MLG Gold.

What happened to you saying this shite about the plain red kit Cortese lumbered us with? Did plain red become our traditional kit as you suggested?

Having taken onboard peoples views on the new kit, some like some don’t, each to their own, from a personal point of view I am just annoyed that my club has one of the most iconic songs in “oh when the saints “ that is chanted at football, it should be played very loud over the loudspeakers at st Mary’s as the last song before kick off yet it doesn’t get played (even the fish down the road play portsmuff before kick off) and we have one of the most recognisable kit in our stripes with black shorts  white socks and we manage to cock that up every year! It’s like those in charge want to get rid of our tradition. Could you imagine Newcastle playing in anything other than black and white stripes or Liverpool wearing other than all red nowadays. All clubs changed early days but once settled on a kit then that’s what makes you you!

I know, could you imagine if a huge club like Barcelona switched away from their traditional red/blue stripes? The world would implode...

...unless it's the star thing they had going on in 97/98, the half/half they had in 99/00, the half/half they had in 08/09, the single string in 12/13, hoops in 15/16, fade thing they had going on in 17/18, checks in 19/20, or the yellow pinstripes next season. That's without mentioning their different-coloured shorts every year...

I may be wrong, but the only teams that are currently wearing new kits are due to the contract with either the sponsor or manufacturer ending in June. As we’re not changing either we’ll probably carry on as we are, or possibly wear next seasons home kit in the final game to promote it.

Going off on a slight tangent, but why did we wear the change kit yesterday ?

Perhaps the third strip will get a few airrings next season irrespective of it being 'needed'.

Fair point Vectis, I asked for that and should have worded it diferently, point being the kits didn't clash and there was no need to change.

Every season every club wears the away kit in games when the don't need to for kit clashes. They do so because they want to use them in a reasonable number of games in order to get people to buy them.

I do think red and white, but not having a hissy fit over stripes! Especially when the sash is our original kit, looks good and can/does distinguish us from all the other red/white stripe teams!

So yes maybe it is you, Muppet! 😉

Always like to see us in stripes. If we had to go for something a bit different then I'd like to see us adopt a half and half shirt, like Feyenoord. Not many clubs have this design. Off the top of my head, I can only think of Blackburn. Oh, and Watford, this season. A few clubs have done this design as an away shirt, but I think it would be a cool alternative to the stripes that make us look like Stoke, Sunderland and Brentford. Maybe something like this.S.jpg.caba69bb0770ff4ce2bbe5b4759cce93.jpg

No hissy fit here, just putting my point of view, we seem to not want to embrace the things that make us us. Anyhow bored now, we have the new red kit with a white bit so hope all are happy.

That is absolutely sweet.

Taking it further, why not quarters? Just like the commemorative shirt worn in the last game at the dell.

I always used to think that dropping the stripes would be the end of the Earth. Then I thought, hey those sashes are kinda cool.

Today, I just need to see us winn home and away dressed in bin bags if it works for us.

A fictitious conversation from my youth:

Me: hey! I finally shagged Sarah last night!

Friend: get in there! What were you wearing?
