I haven't really paid much attention to La Liga this season, but Espanyol finished bottom of the league and were relegated? Jesus. What on earth happened there.

They finished 7th last year and top of their Europa League group...! Crazy.

Marc Roca is a very decent CM fwiw.

Good. Arrogant prick with no actual achievements to back it up.

Yeah, wtf is that about? He's a knob, but he has literally picked them up from being dead and buried to being in the driving seat to stay up.

What is with their owners? Good, strong season under Javi Gracia....struggling start, so they sack him by September. Then they bring in the the previous manager who they'd sacked a year or so before, and he lasted about 2 months before they dumped him.

If i'm honest, I hope they go down because how they run that club is not a way to run a football club.

The only team at the bottom who can take anything positive out of today will be Villa.

I've just got a mad hunch that they are going to be the ones staying up.

Not sure it's so far fetched or mad after today's events and with their respective fixtures.

If you look at points per game and win ratio he's the most successful manager Watford have had in the Premier League. Apparently, I haven't checked.

They're run by nutcases. Genuinely thought they'd got some replacement lined up but not, just a Wigley-esque Hayden Mullens to inspire them against City and Arsenal.

Quite like to see Villa do a proper great escape and send Watford and the Bucket rattlers down.

Just watching Match of the Day 2... It's annoying enough having to listen to Spurs fans singing "oh when the Spurs..." in real life, doubly so when it's being dubbed in continuously by the broadcaster.... Sigh

(Yes, I know... First world problems and all that... :) )

Bit of a strange one, 35% win record which is similar I believe to Ralph's. Think something might have happened behind the scenes to sack him now rather than once the season has finished.

Fuck me, Roy Keane must be blowing a gasket. Shocking 2 goals for the keeper, useless

Seems to be in a bit of a funk, similarities with Joe Hart a few years back ...top keeper but now seems pretty average on form with regular big mistakes, will be interesting to see if mentality he can come back to his previous levels.

Plus Utds pen...if you did a little skip like that down the local pitches you would be ridiculed for a long time 😂

De Gea gone full Fraser Forster. In fact, the Mount goal was worse than anything Fraser did under Puel and Pellegrino and Fraser committed some horrors during that period. Three more years at an alleged £350k p/w. Ouch.

Leicester v Utd tasty one for 4th. Gunners key to relegation battle - one eye on Cup Final or not. Madness on paper by Watford, that’s four managers in one season. Huddersfield odd decision on the Cowleys as well.

After yesterday, Spurs have pretty much kiboshed that as a contest now. If Man U win their game in hand then Leicester would need to be winning that last match by two or three clear goals, so not quite the straight fight it could have been.

However United do have Moyes West Ham to play so could that be one more twist...

Not really, unless Man Utd thrash West Ham.

A 1-0 Leicester win suffices if Man Utd only win by two or fewer goals.

They’d need to win 2-0 if Man U win by 3 or 4 goals. They only need to win by 3 or more if Man Utd beat West Ham by five or more...

In the weirdly unlikely event that we get:

Man Utd 6 West Ham 2 and

Leicester 2 Man Utd 0

then there would need to be a playoff between Leics and Man U if you need to separate the two of them to determine Champions League qualification (which you probably would need as it looks probable that Chelsea will get more than 2 points from their last two games)

Yes fair enough I think I negated to consider the GD benefit gained by Leicester by the act of winning the match v MUFC.

Man Utd keep changing their GK coach which probably isn't helping De Gea. His set position has been tampered with, and for that second goal he dived backwards for some reason. It's basic stuff that kids are taught so I'm not really sure what's going on there.

Feel sorry for him, he was incredible for a long period but seems to have lost it.

Seems to have all stemmed from the Real Madrid rumours for me, he looked 100% set to join and then it didn't happen. He's gone backwards since then, errors at first which were covered up as rarity's are now following a consistent pattern of basic technical errors.

If I were Man Utd, take £20-30m on him, service a portion of his wages for the next couple of years, and get a new goal keeper or use Henderson.

Not happy having to rely on Bournemouth to beat Everton for us to get the glory of 11th. Just hope Watford lose twice so Bmuff are fighting.

We aren't relying on them really, it is in our hands to win by a bigger margin.

ah boo come on Sheffield Utd.

That additional £1.5m or so really would help subsidise our loanees we can’t get rid of.

Although come to think of it, if Angus Gunn hadn’t screwed up against Huddersfield last day of the season then we would have finished a place higher.

Sheff U look shocking, lacking in any real ability or quality. Not entirely sure how they are where they are!

I like Sander Berge, but that's about all they've got.

Their season has been reliant on team spirit and good tactics rather than player quality. 2nd season syndrome may hit them hard.

A win for a much improved Saints would see them finish only 2 points behind Sheff Utd. One team on an upward trajectory, the other the opposite.

Palace haven't really been spoken about since the restart, given they were already safe.

But christ, they have been disgustingly bad since the return. Worst side along with Norwich.

6 defeats in a row, probably another today.

If only we could have managed a highly respectable 4-0 defeat at home to Leicester, we’d be looking much stronger relative to Everton, come Sunday.

Only need to win by a goal more than them next weekend.

He's now on seven straight defeats, he'll do well not to get overhauled himself.

Good job they had the points in the bank.

Who woulda thought back at the end of October/beginning of November, that we would be safe with a few games to go and finishing 11th/12th??

Not many.

But then, some people were still shitting themselves that we were going to get relegated and "40 points might not be enough this season" back in early March.

When we had 34 points. Still enough to be out of the bottom three even today.

That’s kind of my point, I’d rather they had to better our result by 5 goals or needed a win if we drew.

Agree. The 40 points meme is really annoying. You can get relegated on 40, but it's vanishingly unlikely.

On restart, my view was that we might even be able to lose all 9 games and still stay up. That would be cutting it VERY close obviosuly (especially as it would mean Bournemouth would now also be on 34), but it could still turn out to have been enough.

Sure, we were only mathematically safe after beating Man City, but that was the difference between 99.999% and 100% basically.

Thery could be in big trouble next season. I have then earmarked as one of the three to go down, even though we don't know exactly who is coming up or going down thsi year yet!

Could say the same for 10 clubs, though. A strong chance that Chris Wilder's "tough love" approach to man-management doesn't quite hold up in a second season when every other team should have worked out a way to play against them, Burnley seem to have a very weird financial dynamic which is causing tension to the extent that it's being seriously suggested that Sean Dyche might walk at the end of this season, West Ham will continue to be West Ham, whoever stays up out of the three down there will probably still be rubbish next year too, plus throw in Palace as you say, and us and Newcastle are always prone to the occasional shitshow.

Then looking at the teams in the promotion shakeup, I'd expect Leeds to make a fast start but then fall away, Brentford would probably be similar with their setup. The rest would likely be favourites to go straight back down - West Brom look awful despite somehow sitting in second place, Fulham and Cardiff have pretty much the same squad that got relegated a year ago, while Forest and Swansea both look pretty weak.

I really hope Man City smash Watford tonight and hammer their GD.

It would give Bournemouth even more incentive to get a win at Everton on the final day and will increase our chances of finishing above them.

I’m not sure that really follows. If needing to beat them to have any chance of survival isn’t enough incentive, I don’t think a couple of goals here and there will change much.

Besides, they had plenty of incentive to beat us and failed, so I’m not sure it’s really helping.

Yeah, you're probably right. But it could mean the difference between Bournemouth just needing to win by any margin, and them needing to win by 3 or 4 to stand any chance.

I think they are screwed either way. I'm just clutching at straws because I so badly want to see us finish above Everton, who we seem to be quantum entangled to this season.

If Watford lose both games 1-0 (quite unlikely you would think) then Bournemouth only need a 2-0 win against Everton to be level on GD.
