Definitely time for a blue line under that car crash. No time to dwell on it.

Watford won't be easy. Vestergaard will have to come in for Stephens although for me that would have been a possible move anyway. I'd avoid a kneejerk reaction with McCarthy and give him a chance to redeem himself.

Playing in that heat will have taken a lot out of players. Can see Smallbone, Romeu, Adams, all getting game time. Keep KWP. He was less bad than Valery.

McCarthy

KWP, Vestergaard, Bednarek, Bertrand

JWP Romeu

Redmond Armstrong

Adams Long

Ings, Obafemi, Smallbone, Hojbjerg, Gunn, Boufal if fit, Ramsey, Vokins, Tella

I fear we may be disappointed again. Troy Deeney outmuscling us. Us being lethargic and complacent (nothing much to play for disease even though not yet safe). Them being up for it. Still, we're better when we are not at our cursed home

I'm inclined to agree with that starting 11, even though it'll obviously rankle with the "Why on Earth would you want to rest Ings?" brigade... ;)

I know we need to rotate the squad in such a cramped schedule but why Ings and why Watford? We’ve got Man City at home next, which is a game they just won’t turn up for anyway. I’d play our strongest XI, with Smallbone in for Hoj and give the catering/media departments a run out against City. Plus Sunday should be cooler anyway.

Smallbone - JWP

Redmond - Armstrong

Just noticed I said "I suppose it'll have to be Vokins" Apologies to Mr Vokins. It was originally "I suppose it'll have to be Valery" before I realised it didn't have to be. Changed the name but forgot to delete the rest. ☹️😂

Hopefully, the continued terrible performaces of Valery has consigned him to the bench and we will certainly bring in a starting level RB.  Hopefully KwP is that man.

Can't see us winning, they are a shit-house side who will bully us into defeat.

Unfortunately this is very true. I hate their football.

Apparently Hojbjerg is injured (more likely "injured") so hopefully Smallbone will come in and perform well.

Watched the highlights of Watford v Burnley, Watford are dreadful. Chance to get some points out of this one.

Ings Adams

Pretty sure it'll be Smallbone and Long over Adams and Romeu but that's^ what I'd like to see. Not sure why we'd rest Ings like some are suggesting.

Watford were terrible against Burnley but think this'll be a score draw

There isn't a point. We got scammed by Birmingham. Unfortunately he's done nothing to show he deserves a spot in the side, and nothing to show he deserves to be a professional footballer either. However, if he does play lucky there isn't a live crowd in because the boos would be unnecessary. Yes he's one of the worst players we've ever had but that doesn't mean he deserves the abuse. Get behind the lads no matter their level.

We'll lose this 1 or 2 nil.

Watford have only won 4 home games, yet every time any team goes there they are going to get 'out muscled by Deeney' and lose. Pressure all on Watford here, expect Ings to score a few, Watford 1-3 Saints

The worry I have with Che is that he's never really impacted a game, never really looked like scoring, never really looked like a threat. I turn to the bench and look at Long before I look at Che and that says a lot, I think the  manager is the same. Long is another non-goal scoring striker, but he at least impacts games and looks a threat.

Not sure what Che offers to be honest, what he does, what attributes he has. Is he quick? Not that quick. Is he strong? So, so, nothing special. Fair enough, he hasn't played much, but he  has not taken any of the chances he's been given to impose himself on any game - and I'm guessing the same goes in training.

Up there with Carrillo for me! We spent over £30m on two supposed centre forwards who don't actually look like centre forwards or score goals. That's why we've not got any bloody money to play with, and now we're lumbered with them! We're feeling the pain of yet another Ross Wilson failed transfer.

Look to put out strong teams for the games where points are likely, rotate and rest for Citeh and ManUre. Even if Ings can only manage 60 minutes before Adams replaces him that is surely better than starting with Adams.

Yep agree but equally if he did end up at Everton and played well then we would have rued the missed opportunity.

I think it was a punt worth taking for a Championship player who scored around 20 goals I think and he still has time on his side. I honestly think his confidence is just shot but once he gets that first goal he’ll have a huge weight off his shoulder.

I’d start him with Ings on Saturday but ultimately none of us see what he’s like on training or his fitness after the 3 month holiday.

I often wonder if Adams had have scored against Sheffield Utd earlier in the season if things would have turned out differently. He played well that day and was denied by a wonder save. He then played in our total humiliation of the skates but was poor, and we haven’t really seen him since.

Let's get to 40 points first, or when we're winning a match by a couple of goals. I'd like to see more of him too.

We won’t need anything like 40 points to stay up this season. 33/34 will be the cutoff. 4 awful teams are not going to 10 points more than us in 7 games.

Quite, but I don't wish to end the season on a frustration 37 points.

Not confident. Looks like watford rested players for this one. At least we are away.

I'd be tempted to start Adams and put Ings on the bench. No point running him into the ground

Freshening up the midfield after last game probably important. Romeu's physical presence might be a good idea against Doucorre.  Hojberg was very poor too.

If boufal's available i'd probably start him too and use Armstrong off the bench.

Why then did he block the £20M Jan offer by Leeds? That would have enabled us to get a half decent emerging player from Europe - assuming we can still spot emerging potential that is.

Probably for the same reason Leeds were offering 20m for adams, that it would have cost a fortune in January to get replacement and if we lost a striker to injury we'd left with no options.

I think that’s a lot easier said than done in January and the chances are you’ll just end up with another Carrillo.

He didn't go because the guy we wanted on loan from Arsenal stayed there in the end. I wasn't given a name but pretty sure it was Nketiah.

My guess is that when/if we get another win, he'll get a run of games to either prove himself or put himself in the shop window.

Remind me, what’s the score with Djenepo? He’s in isolation, right? Is he likely to be available before the end of the season?

He is not in isolation. He was sent off vs Newcastle and his 3 match ban covers the Norwich, Arsenal and Watford games.

I know football is a lot about opinions and perspectives but I really disagree with this. I feel had that shot against sheff utd earlier in the season gone in it would have made a massive difference. Also I feel he has more to his game than long and especially Obefemi. I still really believe that he'll come good if given the opportunity. Btw, think we're gonna get bullied out of this today. 0 -3

I'd be hooking McCarthy for that shocking performance. No reason not to - Gunn lost his place for a similarly crap performance. When you are borderline good enough for the Prem you can''t throw complacency in the mix and get away with it. Same reason Hoj gets dropped. Bring in Romeu, or Smallbone if we think he can handle a physical game. Ings and Long up top obviously. A run for Adams against Man City. Scoring against them will do wonders for his confidence. KWP in for Valery is a no brainer, as is Vest for the suspended Stephens. Tight one, we are the better side (when we don't dick around) Watford 1-2 Saints if the right side gets picked and they get at it.

Forced to change the team today but I still think we can get a point against team fighting for their lives.

McCarthy (yes stick with him for now)

KWP, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Bertrand

JWP, Smallbone

Armstrong, Redmond

Long, Ings.

Going for a hard fought 2 all though we do have the attack to win, I think our defence may mean we have to out-score them.

3-1 Watford for me. Our comedy defence will collapse against a team with more fight then any of the other teams at the bottom.

id say bring in Gunn in an attempt to make McCarthy buck up his ideas but he’s just as bad so won’t achieve much.

How I’d love for Adams to get a proper run out and break his duck. Gotta be a better choice than Obafemi

I hope not. No keeper should be dropped for one poor performance and its a good opportunity for him to bounce back quickly.

Feeling pessimistic about this one. Watford to come out of the blocks fast with a lot of pressure and get an early goal. Saints then with plenty of tippy-tappy possession offering little idea up front. Watford break late on from a Saints corner and put the seal on a 2-0 win.
