The chase for the perfect decision, VAR  and complete consistency was obviously going to lead to this. Instead of the referee deciding if “In his opinion” a player deliberately handled the ball, we now have basic facts driving the decision. Did it hit his hand, and was his hand in an unnatural position. Whether it was deliberate or not doesn’t matter anymore.

It is not the VAR rules that are the problem.  More that there is again a change in how to assess what a handball is.  VAR enables greater scrutiny but it seem like the rule setting bodies are using it to come up with ridiculous ways of determining if it is handball or not rather than sticking to a common sense approach which VAR could facilitate.
