He signed a 5 year contract in 2018, so expires on 30th June 2023

Stoke according to their local paper have apparently agreed to extend the loan to the end of next season.

They are talking about Forster.

Anyway, David Soria of Getafe is my pick. Only 1 year left on his contract too.

Any chance we could talk Jose Fonte into an emotional return? Still playing at top level for Lille. Could be title winners this season.

Offer him a decent wage, Club captain, agree to coaching role in 2 years, whatever it takes.

Love Jose, but he’s 37 years old.

Desperately lacking that sort of experience in the squad, and he’s a lot better than anyone we have now. Not sure why he’d rejoin though.

Reckon we shouldn't offer Bertrand a contract and instead buy 2 Wing backs

-1 starting leftie like Truffert/Maoussa/ or loan to buy Williams

- 1 Rightie to rotate with KWP, like Killian Ludewig who can also cover the left position (only 21 on loan to Schalke from Red Bull Slazburg)

I think Saint's cannot afford to miss a trick with players now more available to us from South America......however one such player who i have been following with great interest since he left Venezuela and signed for Santos is Yefereson SOTELDO, a real pocket rocket of a player and well worth the gamble. Since joining Santos he has been brilliant and due to Santos being financially ruined his lazy egocentric agent has just got him a comfortable salary move to the MLS for only $6 million dollars.

An absolute waste of this players talent!

Eh? We’ve got a massively experienced squad. If anything we’re guilty of hanging onto players past their best and not moving on. Fonte was past his best when he left four years ago, I wouldn’t have him over anyone in our squad.

I meant in terms of leadership, winning trophies, winning games and keeping clean sheets.

I guess our defence have played a lot of games, but also conceded tones of goals, lost a lot of games and I don’t think one of them leads the team.

Fonte’s results speak for themselves, it’s a lot better than our current crop. Don’t think he’s the answer though or that necessarily that great, just better than what we have.

In France. He was substandard at West Ham.

Easily makes the whoscored Ligue 1 team of the season and has been lauded for how hes brought along Sven Botman (the same way he did with Lovren, Toby and VVD). Not bad for a 37 year old no matter what way you look at it. Would certainly do a better job than Bednarek has done most of this season

I don’t think that he’s so good that he’ll look good in a poor team, as with West Ham then and what would happen if he joined us now. But he excelled when we had a good squad and he’s excelling now in a good Lille team. As I said, I’m not sure he’d be the answer but he’s a lot better than our current CBs, with far better experience.

Had to do an analysis report on him from the U20 World Cup, incredibly talented footballer.

Youth team news but Saints also looking at Harvey Rew, released by Pompey, due to offer a trial.

Leaving all the Pompey bollocks out of it, why are we looking at a player released from a league one club?

I think I know who you are.

What do you think of him?

Also he's 18. That's the sort of age you get released if you're not good enough  surely....

16 - 19 isn't that the sort of age where if you're good enough but players are in ahead of you, you'd get sent on loan rather than out the door and released.

I don't care if he's a Pompey player or not, I just find it odd we're looking at a League One club reject.

Not been keeping tabs on the B-team results?

Let's just say it's caused a few shockwaves at a particular club regarding those not being offered deals.

A number of those released are on trial with PL clubs as we speak.

Yeah only on here though.

Let’s just say Ralph’s ‘play book’ has been as successful for them as it has us...

Sam Johnstone at WBA would be a solid addition. Apparently £10m price tag if WBA go down. Might as well try for Pereira as well. He has something about him. Bit of unpredictability, so probably not a Ralph type player but could suit a new manager if we say goodbye to Ralph.

We can’t afford to waste any of our limited funds on another keeper given our other issues. At the end of next season once forster’s contract has expired we can revisit, till then McCarthy is serviceable.

I would agree. The priorities in my opinion -

Striker (if Ings goes - which is becoming more if by the day)

Left Back to replace Bertrand who is almost certainly gone

Centre Back if Vestergaard goes, but dont think he will.

Full Back preferably to cover both sides

Centre Mid who offers more attacking wise than our current options. Think thats a big issue for us as teams dont need to worry about JWP/Diallo/Romeu breaking from midfield and asking questions of them defensively - hence why we've looked better with Armstrong in there.

In terms of GK, Tomas Vaclik is on a free from Sevilla in the summer. Very good keeper with plenty of european and international experience. We should seriously consider it and look to move on McCarthy or Forster (probably get more for Forster - Celtic could definitely do with him again)

Have it on very good authority we are one of "several" PL clubs who have enquired about Olise at Reading

Not surprised. Release clause rumoured to be as low as £7m (or as high as £11m). Creative teenage attacker - it's almost a free hit for a club like ours. If he's remotely decent, he'll be sold on at a huge profit (he's got Home Grown status, which is going to become increasingly valuable in the post-Brexit PL).

And if he's only so-so, well, it hasn't broken the bank and we can probably recoup most of the outlay.

Suspect we're already out of the running, though. Olise will have plenty of admirers.

I'd be shocked if he was still at RFC next season. Personally think he'll go elsewhere (Chelsea is my bet) but he'll go and they need to sell.

Like most clubs, the ones they need to get off the payroll, aren't the ones likely to be the most likely to be sold.

Would be delighted with Olise, but also not too upset with Ejaria. We seem to do our youth shopping there as another 15 he old has joined our academy (name escapes me for now!)

Seems he has an arrogance about him which might not be a good thing. The kind of player to force a move if he had a good season?

He's only got a year left on his deal and is probably fed up with people earning 10x more than him and contributing very little (Aluko). He'll almost certainly be sold in the summer, hopefully to us as he's a big talent. RFC can't really afford to let him run his deal down

I wonder if the limited budget spreads to an attacking midfielder?

Not sure, we clearly have bigger needs but what needs we have and what we'll prioritise don't always make sense.

We're clearly interested, but do get the impression that if a bidding war were to start we'd end up disappointed....

We seem to be getting linked to a few, so I get the feeling will be in the market for one. I also feel that will be in addition to us signing Theo, who gives options as a FWD and an AM.

Undoubtedly, our priority is a LB, whether Bertrand stays or goes (personally, I think he will go).

Second priority should be a player to cover RB and LB, but have a feeling that may well be a loanee.

IF Ings stays we are okay up top. We would have Ings, Adams, Theo, Redmond, and Tella plus whoever from Long, Obafemi and N'Lundulu who isn't sold/loaned. That said, I think we will sell (or loan) Long; loan N'Lundulu; unsure about Obafemi. If we sell him I think we will replace with another young player from somewhere. Obviously if Ings goes replacing him also becomes a priority.

A solid, ball winning, CM would be nice - but think that role goes to Romeu, so any new signing would only be as a back-up to him. I also think Armstrong has shown he can do a great job in CM, so Romeu, JWP, Diallo and Armstrong should be enough. (Maybe another reason why we are looking at an AM? Perhaps it is seen as an easier/better role to purchase a player for?)

We are okay at CB, unless Vestergaard goes. If he does go I would be very happy to see Salisu start the season, and I don't expect Bednarek to be dropped. That would mean any new CB would probably be signed as a back-up. Would rather Vest stayed. (Or maybe Hoedt will be that 4th choice CB - gulp!)

Gunn is staying at Stoke for next season. We will almost certainly retain Macca and Fraser to fight it out for the GK slot. We might sign a young, one for the future, 'keeper as 3rd choice.

Given all the above, that would mean we would only be looking to buy a LB followed by an AM - unless we need to replace someone we sell. So, yes, we should be able to afford one.

N.B. If we do need to sign a player to replace a sold one I fully expect us to spend less on the replacement than we get for the outgoing player (i.e. said replacement being young 'with room for improvement'). I would also prefer it if we bought a covering FB outright as opposed to loaning one. However, I do think that we will loan 2 players in regardless next season.

I am mostly interested to see if the current state of finances are going to be impacting the deals being done or is everyone going to keep running to the cliff everyone has said they need to do something about but in a game of chicken cannot restrain themselves from leaping over with enthusiasm.
