Summer Transfer Window 2021

Good deal, invest in two good 25m players. Its the only way we will get better. Hasn't happened though has it?.

Thank God it hasn't. With 2 weeks left to the transfer window we have left it far too late to get anyone decent in and I don't think there would be £50m left anyway for replacements after Gao has trousered a good chunk of it. To lose Bertrand, Vestergaard, Ings and then our club captain / free kick specialist / penalty taker in one window would be suicidal.

This sort of signing needs to be in addition to signings that immediately strengthening the first team not instead of. Otherwise this sort of signing is irrelevant if we get relegated as if the player is any good they will leave anyway.

Unless he’s really good…

Cant be relying on a 17 Yr old in the Premier league - simple as that.

We wouldn't be though, we already signed Perraud to be the first choice LB.

If we could sign Small then IMO that is exactly the type of signing we should be making in that position as a 2nd full back, like Livramento.

Yeah, it would be daft to have a teenage left back in the Premier League.

The last time we did... he was voted in the PFA Premier League team of the season!

Professional Footballers' Association on Twitter: "PFA #BPL Team of the Year #PFAawards: http://t.co/5epylhHKmO"

In any case it wouldn't be a case of relying on him... he'd be back up to Perraud. Plus 18 year old Livramento hardly looks out of place. Better to judge a player on their own merits rather than write them off due to age.

Shhhh that doesn't fit the narrative of our entitled, spoilt brat fan base who hate everyone and everything about the club.

A single opinion does not indicate entitlement or being a member of a "fictional" group; however, your reply was spoken with entitlement and in a spoilt brat manner with no sense of irony. Do you comprehend that it is possible to criticise our club and still be an optimistic supporter?

It isn't merely opinion, a claim that Gao is siphoning off money from the club in demonstrably wrong. The accounts show it has not happened.

No, it is not opinion that the accounts show no money has left the club to go to Gao. It is a demonstrable fact and it is a public document that you can check if you don't believe it.

No, it's not an opinion, MLG is stating a fact.

I was stating my opinion that if JWP goes for £50million then £50 million will not be available to replace him this transfer window.  Okay?

It's the false reason that you gave for the £50m supposedly not being available that MLG was picking you up on, not your opinion that the £50m might not be available per se...

On what was that based? As there is no evidence he has done that before.

Very much hope we get a CB in soon, and preferably before the Sunday hammering puts them off for good as a situation beyond most. Oops, being negative again.

We need players we can polish and sell after a few years, otherwise our financial model won't work. Promising scholars that bigger clubs are desperate to keep seems like as sane an investment strategy as any.

But we also need to stay in the division in the meantime. Relegation is pretty costly (and a new keeper/CB price pales into insignificance, compared)

I'm assuming 5m for this kid won't put our CB recruitment in jeopardy. If it does, I absolutely take your point, but I can't believe the club won't scrape together enough for both given that Gunn and Lemina both brought in similar amounts.

Looking back at our Transfer Ins and Outs since Gao took over you are correct (it just doesn't feel like that); my bad. However, the main thrust of my point was that I don't think it would be a good idea to sell JWP for £50million with less than 2 weeks of the transfer window left.

.....and I totally agree with you. It's just that when Semmens and co continually state that Gao doesn't put any money into the club, he also doesn't take any out. The club is self-sustaining. To hear these unbased accusations (not just from you) all the time is annoying.

What if Perraud get injured for 3 months or so - chuck him in amd hope for the best. Name me a 17 year who has played regularly in the prem since it was formed 30 years ago or so(expect there may be 1 or 2 but they would certainly be exceptions)...............

But then we have to bodge somebody in place & weaken another position.

Signing elite academy players is never a bad idea, IMO.

You can't expect people to be happy having an owner who doesn't have a trillion pounds and buys seven Harry Kanes every summer.

I do wonder what people want. I don't want to support a city or Chelsea. It's quite fun being among the elite without being a rich club. We've stayed up ten years. We might go down or stay up another ten. But not many clubs manage it. Plenty come up for a year or two, maybe have a single good season like Sheffield United.

Id rather saints build the club and invest in the long term. Is there even much point now in all spending £200m just to compete for 7th? Because that's what it's become. There's so many wealthy owners they can't all be successful. It's disaster for any of the top 4 not finishing there. Then there's spurs, arsenal, Everton, villa, Leicester all with big money and ideas slightly above their current stations.

I'd take not making big money shit signings again, working smart and improving players.

But I'd also really, really like to see a proper goalkeeper.

Exactly! Wise words. We should be proud, not complaining, that the manager and the team continue to keep us among the elite without the financial means of the elite. The Club's policy means no Harry Kane for us, and that's a good thing. The rich are always so unhappy, Spurs Arsenal etc are always moaning. COYR

Your post shows how futile being a Saints fan is. We can hope to stay up and just be the cannon fodder for the top boys. The football season comes around and my mood slips to a depressed state as all I expect is more of Saturdays disappointment. In the past I would hopeful that we could steal or deserve a win, now all Im hoping for is that we dont lose by more than 4.

Completely agree with this, in fact I think other clubs will do a similar thing to this in future, clubs like Chelsea hoover up so much young talent, then fill the first team with ready made players, the young players coming through won't see a way in to the first team, coming to a club like us suits all parties, we get a potential top player before he fulfills his potential, whilst the player gets the chance to actually fulfill that potential by getting much needed game time.

Someone on Twitter has suggested we have agreed a fee for Maximillian Wober - a centre back from from RedBull Salzburg - 23 and 6ft2.  Seems to have moved around a lot though - but Ajax and Sevilla have good recruitment records.  But begs the question why did they sell him om so quickly.

As always Liverpool were linked with back in January - https://www.rousingthekop.com/2021/01/05/potential-liverpool-target-maximilian-wober-has-possible-red-flag/

Probably not truth in it but there you go.

hmm, strange. Signed by Sevlla for €10m, hardly played, sold to RB Salzburg for €12m 6 months later. 23 so fits the young, hungry and guaranteed to improve criteria.

Judging from these stats, he's never been a regular first teamer anywhere.

Maximilian Wöber - Wikipedia

Although a lot of that seems to be down to all of his injuries. Poor lad does seem to be very fragile:

Maximilian Wöber - Injury history | Transfermarkt

Maximilian Wöber - Stats 20/21 | Transfermarkt

Maximilian Wöber - Stats 18/19 | Transfermarkt

With his poor health, it's a wonder his mum lets him out to play football any more.

Hopefully, there is no truth to the rumour.
