Minamino keep or get rid?

Recommended Posts

The guy has talent probably more than most in our team but for me ala lemina & obafemi he doesn't work hard enough to show that talent & wouldn't be worth the high wages he would no doubt demand.... Liverpool probably owe us a cheap player seeing as though they have half our team....... Thoughts?

He's not done enough in my opinion. We're obviously strapped for cash and could probably find someone else who would have a more positive effect on the team for less. Would imagine his wages are reasonably high too.

Not done anywhere near enough for me, wouldn't spend anything on him. Even in the games he's scored, he's sort of been on the edge of the game.

As above, I don't think he's suited to this league. He's clearly technically gifted but you need more than just that. I imagine Liverpool will sell him to Sevilla.

Think he's one of those players who might excel if he had others around him to do the donkey work for him.

We don't have enough quality and especially muscle to carry him, although I think he could be a good squad player, which with our limited resources we probably don't want, and probably can't afford the luxury of him and Walcott.

At £5m possibly worth it, but if Liverpool are holding out for £10m that they think they can recoup from an exchange with a Spanish club then doubtful.

Hard to judge really. We've only used him as a stop gap, as did Liverpool. Had we signed him permanently he might have played more regularly and/or in a more suited role.

But from what I have seen of him while he's been here I'd say there's likely to be better suited options out there.

I was thinking about formations the other day and how 4-2-3-1 was always robust if not spectacular. Perhaps a front 6 something like this might suit Minamino, if (hypothetically) we were to sign him.

          Romeu - JWP

Tella - Minamino - Armstrong

              Adams

Ignoring any other potential recruitment and who might replace Ings etc. I don’t think that team would be on the wrong end of so many spankings as with the 4-2-2-2

2 lovely goals.  A definite player there, but overall, he’s not done enough.

The big caveat with him is his lack of match sharpness when he arrived and our form being terrible.  Certainly cannot of been easy for him.

Wouldnt surprise me to see a different player in on loan next season.

Definitely get rid. Can finish, can't do much else. Needs to go back to european leagues as he's completely unsuited to prem imo.

Seems Liverpool had a go at Saints and suddenly Minamino played against leicester and was awful. Hopefully we don't continue to cave to their demands that he plays.

It's not easy coming in for one game in ten. And yes, he's not a DM or a winger, so needs to play up top in a 4-2-2-2.

But agree with above - a 4-2-3-1 formation with him central is best for him, if only we played that.

Overall, I'm undecided. If Ralph is going to continue to use him so rarely, then no point in taking him. But if he can offer him a regular place, and the price is under £10M, then I would take him, yes. Depending on who else is being looked at.

Is that true?

We're not here for their benefit.

As it stands it has to be get rid, as he has done very little aside from two well taken goals.

However I've been wanting to see what he can do up front, as his best attribute seems to be his finishing and is also quite pacey. With Ings' injuries and the lack of forward options I'm a bit surprised Ralph hasn't tried it. He just doesn't seem suited to the deeper no.10 role in our system. I'd partner him with Che for the last few games and see how he gets on, he can't be much worse than Redmond surely?

It depends on what/who we can afford in the summer.

He's probably the best wideman after Armstrong - (Tella has great potential so, I'd like to see more next season).

I also acknowledge that he's come into a team on a horrendous run of form, which must've have been difficult to integrate into. Also feel like it's been difficult to get him on board tactically with the lack of team/tactical coaching it seems Ralph has been able to actively do this season.

I'd rather Taki over Theo.

I think he would probably score more than Theo over a full season and age is on his side... Theo is only worth it as a squad player on cheap wages ie less than half what he was on at Everton

Agreed - rather have Taki than Theo. I'd have him if the price was right - seems to have a good attitude and there is a player in there. We're shit so not like we're going to do much better.

I like him and he's not had the run he needs to get up to speed. I'd like to see him in the role Redmond has been playing up front but dropping off and linking up with the midfield. I think he'll offer more than Redmond does there.

We do play a very similar formation to the 4231. The 4222 is basically the same but with the 10 pushed up higher next to the striker. Either way, I don't rate Che as a loan centerforward, if anything he wants the 10 role. Taki as a 10 behind ings could work but imo Che and Redmond both offer more.

As for Taki himself. I don't rate him. Hes shit against the ball, really sloppy, and goes completely anonymous when we need him. Good finisher so probably could go to a worse league like Italy and tear it up but he is not at all good enough for me. Spend the money on Danjuma if bournemouth don't come up as he is quality.

I understood he was here on loan only and not for sale.

Liverpool's style of play differs so markedly from ours that training him to fit to our system doesn't help  Liverpool or us. At times the lad looks like a fish out of water so it is unlikely he would choose to stay here even if such a conversation takes place.

He's not bad, but I'm not much of a fan either. If he was a cheap option from a Championship team and aged  19-20, I might be tempted. But he ain't.

It's also not obviously a position we need to stengthen in.

Are there any good cheap championship players that are aged 19-20? 😅

Attacking midfield? Not sure I agree with that. I think we have quantity but not enough quality in those areas. Armstrong is obvious decent, but Redmond is inconsistent, Djenepo made of glass, Tella largely untested/unproven and Walcott, Minamino and Elyounoussi on loan with uncertain futures. I’m not sure Minamino is necessarily the answer to that (although he must have shown quality for Liverpool to sign him) but I would be looking for a better AM to be brought in, if we can find one.

However I’m aware we will be on a strict budget, and money would be more importantly spent on full back areas and in attack, so I guess we will be stuck with what we have or more loans, which concerns me. I can potentially see Walcott and Elyounoussi here next season for a start, which could mean a looooong season.

It is difficult to see why we would be interested in taking him (its not actually our choice of course). Apart from the 2 goals (well taken) soon after he arrived he has done literally nothing. He just isn't suited to the PL as Liverpool had previously discovered. Ralph had seemingly decided the same, it was a bit of a mystery why he was played against Leicester but in that game he demonstrated clearly that he is not good enough, it was like we were playing with 9 men, I was puzzled why Ralph didn't replace him with Walcott who has shown good defensive work while he has been back with us. Clearly he is a skilful footballer, but not suited in any way to Premier League, and suspect he would struggle in any top level league, but may get away with it in La Liga.

Really dont think this league is maybe for him, I dont see him tackling, using body strength to win balls etc and whilst he would add quality we dont have the cash to splurge on a luxury player at the moment

Keep. It's Ralph who needs getting rid of for not bringing the best out of Minamino. (This is a serious comment.)

So Liverpool need to get rid of Klopp for not getting the best out of him as well?

He's so not suited to this league, it's plainly obvious.

Not sure he’s any better or offers anything different than Redmond and Redmond is hot and cold at the best of times. I don’t think Taki is a bad player, it’s just we need something different...more Armstrong than Redmond.

End product wasn’t there tonight. But he added balance to our line-up today, and in my eyes though individually it didn’t work, he improved the team’s structure and the other players benefited. He hasn’t done enough for us to buy him but we’re desperately need a player in a similar mould. He’s probably not the answer but I’d much rather have him in rest of the season rather than two out-and-out wingers, which just makes us completely toothless.

Summary: he’s not great, but we’re a better team with a type of player like him to balance a Redmond or Tella or Djenepo on the other wing.
