  1. You are mixing up 2 games. Rednapp's first match in charge was against Middlesbrough when we threw away a 2-0 lead with just a couple of minutes to go. The Everton match we went 1-0 down (Beattie scoring against us just after his transfer) then we turned it around to 2-1 before Crouch's unfortunate choice to go for a 3rd in the dying seconds. I still have nightmares about it.

The quietest I’ve ever heard a football stadium after that equaliser....

  2. I was there. Also Upper East Centre (agree about the view - couldn’t get better). The noise when MLT scored was immense. Got him to sign my shirt after- despite being 24 at the time! Amazing day, still difficult to truly imagine that that place is no longer there (provided you don’t go down Milton Road or Archers Road very often - living in Manchester helps with that)

  3. Pelle , mane and Long have no history of scoring a lot of goals per season

It's wishful thinking to believe they are going to change at this stage in their careers . Pelle is at best a 12 goals a year man and Long proves nearly every match that he isn't a natural goal scorer

We cant climb the league if as we have seen over a considerable period of time we fail to score opportunity after opportunity

It's not rocket science we are trying to win games without a premier league quality striker

FFs buy someone anyone would be better than what we have .

Or we could bring in striker with no premier league experience and take the risk he can't make the change to the premier league

Koeman will be gone if we lose the next three matches

Both Pelle and Mane do have a history of scoring a decent amount of goals a season. Mane scored 45 goals in 87 games during his time at Salzberg. Pelle got 50 in 57 games at Feyenoord and (I think) got 18 for us last year, none of which is shabby.

That doesn't change the fact that I think we need another striker, I would go for Austin if it was up to me.

  4. I think this would be a good thing if true. Yes, we are in a bad run of results but you don't become a bad manager overnight and performances have been frustrating (because we haven't converted dominance into goals and individual errors from experienced players) rather than bad. It's about time we took a long term approach, for me 12th this year, Koeman signed up and a squad refresh in the summer would be a decent outcome from where we are now.

  5. Definitely Draper Tools in 1985. Took over from Air Florida at the start of the 84/85 season, the last year we played in the red and white Patrick kit. The season after that was the Centenary Year with the red Patrick kit. Rank Xerox's final season was 82/83.

Never seen a Saints shirt with Epsom on it, though

  6. Lots of stories about us scoring 52 out of 55 PL penalities. Who are the three who have missed for us in the Premier League? Tadic is one, clearly, can't remember Beattie missing one, so I would guess Magilton and maybe Dodd are the other two?

Of course we had a number of misses in the Football League years, even excluding the Derby shootout, Billy Sharp and Quashie are two which spring to mind.

  7. Just got back - was behind enemy lines in the Stoke end so had to be on my best behaviour. Missed the first 15 mins, and Graziano's apparent wonder goal due to appalling traffic on the M6.

    A few thoughts:

Firstly great away attendance - to get over 2000 there tonight was amazing and was a great sight and sound from where I was sat in the main stand. However, best to save the "ole"s and "we want 8"s until after half time and certainly until after the game is won - just tempting fate

Pretty much an orthodox 442 there tonight (or at best 4411). Not seen that for a couple of years. Worked well initially, but thought we needed to change it as the second half wore on, as they started to control the midfield.

Second half we suffered either from complacency or fatigue - looked more like the former to me, as if we felt the game would just happen for us, casual in defence, casual in front of goal and ragged in midfield - we allowed Stoke back into a game which should have been dead and buried.

Not seen anything of Forster yet to suggest he is a step up from Boruc, not made any blunders as such but not seen a save from him that makes the difference.

Unlike many on here, I thought Big Vic had a decent game, yes he gave the ball away in the last quarter of the game, but so did most of the others in midfield. Gardos showed promise, but after his mistake in giving the ball away (where Jose saved him) he looked short on confidence. Targett did very well, looked at home.

Tadic though, what a player. Gets better each time I see him. Clearly tired towards the end, but some of his play in the first half was astonishing - enjoy it while he's here.

You could tell that someone was going to get sent off, just surprised it was crouch and not Adam.

All in all a satisfactory performance, sets up a semi final with Bournemouth nicely

  8.

The loudest atmosphere at a match I can remember. Had my walkman radio on to get the scores from the other matches, turned up full, and couldn't hear it due to the noise of the crowd. Amazing.

Also, arguably the most important game in our recent history - if we'd gone down, the chances are we wouldn't have SMS.

  9. Didn't Puncheon do something similar not so long back? And didn't Suarez kick up a fuss last summer. Very unprofessional, he is under contract and if anyone is trying to "destroy" anything or change anything, it is him.

If Morgan didn't want to be held to staying for 4 years, he shouldn't have signed his lucrative 4 year contract. Same with Jay. Simple. No sympathy whatsoever. The contract means if the club consider it in their best interests to stay, they stay and they play and they get paid for doing it.

Can see this ending in the same way as Suarez last summer, with MS signing an even more lucrative new deal in the next couple of weeks, which would be great PR for club as it has mended the relationship, MS has bought into RK's vision, etc etc, but with a £20m release clause in it, which means he will be off next summer when the heat is off.

  10. We've seen it with countless players, managers, chairman etc. One minute they're heroes, next they're villains... everything seems to be black or white, and so many seem to lack the emotional maturity to consider alternatives, or look at longer term outcomes. The funny thing is we dare to say the same about the Skates on the nutjob thread, and mock their hero to villain to hero status changes for players and managers, but look at us... 'Knee-jerk' doesn't even cover it, we need a new word or phrase to describe it.

You should know by now that there are no grey areas on the internet and no room for nuances or reason - it is a purely binary world, where opinion is stated as FACT and that is that.

  11. Here's a thought.

From the obsessive nutjobs' point of view it might be better and produce more lols if they didn't slip into the Conference but stayed in League Two?

    How so?

If they go into the Conference, the myth-making hype machine will slip into overdrive. They will enjoy - certainly initially - the increased publicity of being the biggest club in history to play in the Conference. They will invariably gain some unwarranted sympathy but knowing the Septic Isle's ability to spin a myth, could ride the momentum and stage a heroic campaign to climb back into the Football League and the legend of the plucky but biggest fan-owned club in the world will continue.

If they stay up and undergo another anaemic season in League Two, they will quickly be forgotten and meld into the likes of other bottom tier teams like Torquay, Hartlepoool, York etc, doomed to just scuff around and be largely forgotten non-entities.

    Discuss.

Or they could do a Stockport and drop down another level. And a potential derby with Eastleigh. Relegation for me every time (and also got £5 at 40/1)

  12. Slight aside, but just been reading the new Secret Footballer book and it looks likely it is Dave Kitson. On that basis, there's some insight into life at Pompey, the wage deferrals and the SOS Pompey training ground picket, cotterill's departure, abuse from Skates on his return to FP etc.

All good stuff if you can join the dots. Also a good story involving a Sunseeker that seems to involve a few of our players from the Strachan era

  13. 36, live in Manchester, grew up in Chandlers Ford, first game won 1-0 v Spurs at home in October 1984, first away game was Forest , probably '96. Had season ticket in East Stand and Kingsland from age of 7 until about 2005/06, don't anymore (since the kids appeared), rest of family still STH

  14. We spent £30m in the summer. It has to paid for somehow. As a company we have many sources of finance.

All corporate bonds are - are a way of borrowing against future profits or/and income. Equity is also a way of borrowing against future income. This is a loan fixed ( being the important word) against future income. That in itself does not worry me as long as the rate is not stupid.

What is different is the need for Cortese to find funds outside of the Liebher estate. That for me is the worry.

Maybe Cortese is trying to get the business to stand alone in order to value it to sell it?

I am concerned, but unlike the blue few we do have fixed assets to on against,

It is true, the publically available records at Companies House show it. Would be good to know why the loan is needed, it may be for perfectly valid reasons, but when it has been said or at least intimated by the powers that be at the club that it is debt free and being funded by the Liebherrs, it's a bit of a surprise to find they have borrowed from an offshore entity secured against next season's premier league payments
