For the last few seasons, there’s been a lad near to me in the Kingsland who gets incredibly irate at the ref. Standing and screaming, “Lino! Lino!” at every single decision. Foaming at the mouth, spit flying. His old man telling him to sit down as he was embarrassing them. I thought he was annoying.
It’s only been two home games and I miss him. I didn’t know how much I needed to hear that this ref was a joke until he was gone.

That was also awful but I do understand that to an extent given how long it had been since we got there and given how competitive the mens game is. One of the women pundits was saying something like "pinch me is this real?" which given that we had been in two semis and a final 13 years ago is a bit of a ridiculous thing to say. Saying things like "absolutely everyone is talking about this the country is going to be insane." None of that is true. I'm really pleased they are doing well and it would be great if they win it but overstating the achievement and the level of interest just makes it seem like they have been told to do that by the BBC.
A hyperbolic media is definitely one of the most frustrating aspects of modern culture. Personally, I can forgive them this time. It wasn’t just the result, but that they’d thrashed the second ranked team in the world, in a home tournament, to play a major final at Wembley, in front of crowds they’d only dreamed of before.

Suede - it’s the 25th anniversary of coming up this year. Suede were the band that started Brit pop, disappeared then reappeared with this master piece. Lots of references to drugs so to listen to it again will probably remind you on the time you cough your guts up after trying a spliff
oasis - liams new tour has gone down a storm. All those 40+s i25,000th in the queue to try and pretend they were at knebworth the first time Round competing for tickets with kids who weren’t even born then a bit sad
pulp - great band but if transgender wasn’t a thing in the 90s we obviously ignored the warning signs. Anyone thinking of transitioning should simply how their bigoted parents the front cover of the different class CD to show them why they shouldn’t be surprised what they’ve spawned
Radiohead - and you wonder why mental health is an issue these days you listened to this nonsense parents! This post was edited an hour after it was first made and it’s still fucking gibberish.

Very sad. I was in college when the first few singles and album came out and they became one of the first bands I really got invested in - it was so exciting to have a local band make it. Later, Colin from Delays joined my friends band Dead Rabbits and I hung out with Greg a few times. Always a charming, articulate guy. Such an incredible and unique voice in pop too. Valentine deserved to be massive. RIP Greg.

My point is that it isn't some benign definition the way aintforever claims. It's used in all manner of insidious things so to pretend it's just what aintforever posted is dishonest.
I’m unsure if you’re still arguing with aintforever here or me, but I agree with you - as I have said. It has many meanings And has changed quickly for such a modern word. It’s interesting to plot its use from its African American origins, using Get Out as a guide. I’m unsure if you’ve seen it so I’ll briefly go through it. There it meant the African American lead character staying alert to racism against him, which turned out to be from people who we might now describe as performative and virtue signalling about how much they love black people. Now, we might describe these people as “woke”. In the context of the film, and when it was made, the lead African-American character is ‘woke.’

I could quite you the dictionary definition of a woman and some people believe that doesn't mean adult human female and some people believe racism is prejudice plus power.
You could, yes. Which only backs up what I said in the post about the malleability of words - and the speed in which “woke” has been co-opted/changed etc. Notice that in the post I also say yours is a viable definition.

Untrue. Time to open your mind and educate yourself:
What aintforever posted is the dictionary definition. I’ve no doubt what you’ve posted is a viable definition too. Interesting to see a modern word change meaning so quickly. I first became aware of it in Childish Gambino’s “Awaken My Love” album, then later that year it was used in Jordan Peele’s “Get Out,” which is a very racially charged and angry film, that reflects the African American origins of the word.

Both Turkish and MLG are very clearly on the spectrum. I don’t think it’s fair that the mods keep highlighting it by making threads drawing attention to them.

Margate is pretty popular now although Broadstairs just up the coast is the place where anyone sensible lives.
There's a Turner gallery in Margate, a big art community, quite a decent music scene. Probably more going on there than there is in Southampton although we're not exactly the type of culture benchmark that anyone is comparing themselves against.
Transmission record store is in Margate, which is probably one of the best in the country.

My favourite Christmas tradition is settling down as a family on the day after Boxing Day, with a mug of hot cocoa each, to read through the Saintsweb duck rape thread. I normally read out MLG’s bits, but my bird and I talked and eventually the broad agreed with me that our son was ready to do it this year. A wonderful Christmas memory.

Game of thrones
Game of thrones is shit. People say it’s got dragons and tits in it. A: dragons are not real. Get a real animal. B: most grown adults have seen a pair of tits in their lifetime. If not, the internet has more than enough. Grow up, nerds.

I also met Alan Ball and got his autograph at a reserve game once. As I walked away, I quite loudly asked my grandparents who that was. Supposedly his face fell immediately and he stopped and walked away. I think he left for Man City soon after.
-
I didn’t have a season ticket when I was younger; I did, however, go to many of the home reserve games with my grandparents. It’s where I met my childhood idol, Frankie Bennett.

This thread is both amazing and terrible at the same time.
It’s absolute gold and the only thing that keeps me coming back to saintsweb currently.
