I am not up to speed on the PP. I thought I heard a little while ago that they were thinking about stopping or adjusting them because it was deemed unfair on Championship teams......although I might have dreamt that.....

That is the complaint from EFL teams. I think the football regulator will attempt to level the playing field when they get appointed. Until then, we could persue a BOING Saints strategy.

  2. From the Guardian 2 years ago, talking about his Torino side. Loving the potential for sh*thousery

The broad strokes of Juric’s gameplan were nothing new. Like his mentor, Gasperini, he frequently pairs players up one-on-one with opponents all over the pitch and trusts them to engage in individual duels. Where the approach sometimes differs is in the sheer levels of aggression. Juric encourages his forwards to attack the ball-carrier at almost every opportunity.

That approach can make for messy matches. Torino commit more fouls than any other team in Serie A, and it’s not close: averaging 17.6 per game compared with just 14.5 for the second-most prolific offenders, Verona – the team who Juric coached for the preceding two seasons.

Yet Torino sit middle of the pack when it comes to yellow cards, with 11 other teams collecting more. Their fouling is not reckless but often tactical, premised on the idea that it is better to give away an innocuous free-kick deep in opposition territory than to let a move get started. Such infringements are also far less likely to draw bookings.

And the longer that a team stay trapped in their own half, the more likely that they become impatient and flustered. As the above piece from ultimouomo.com also observed, Torino give up fewer passes per loss of possession to opponents than any other team in the league.

His stats suggest few goals, and few assists. But you can see how his play would create plenty of chances ie the pass that creates an assist

    assist- assist?

    Whats his xAA stats?

  4. Happened to sit next to Flynn's agent on the way to Wembley yesterday.

A lovely bloke, very humble. Was interesting to hear what he had to say about Flynn and the summer.

Nothing earth shattering but that if we go up (yay!) it makes it easier to keep him. That Flynn loves it here. That the problem will be West Ham now they have only a few central midfielders. But this will likely only delay it rather than stop it.

He also gave an insight into Flynn's mentality for big games like this.

He also represents Steven Schumacher and confirmed he was gutted he didn't get the job and was interviewed.

This could be a job where the pony “football philosophy” is illustrated. Lego is probably a better fit if they want to play a certain way, even though McKenna has done a better job this season.  The fact he’s devised a system & style to suit the  players and found a style to get them out of the league they’re in, counts for fuck all. It’s all about your spread sheets, philosophy & score on the hipster chart.

Souness summed it up this week. Said he could see Kompany replacing Pep despite being relegated, whereas has he gone all Fat Sam but kept them up, he wouldn’t get a sniff.

Works both ways though... Sean Dyche (essentially) had a relegation on his CV with Burnley- yet bagged the biggest gig of his career at Everton. Presumably based on the style of football they knew they'd get.

So if he'd gone Fat Sam, then he'd be in a very strong position for Forest type jobs next year. But he didn't, so he won't. Not sure Man City is a realistic destination for him right now

Lots of stats and records to be smashed on this game.

Leeds never won a play off final in i think 6 attempts is it?

We have never won a play off final.

This will be our 9th final of any kind (i think), and we have only won 2 of the other 8.

In a nutshell, Leeds cannot win play offs and we cannot win finals. Something has to give.

Something has to give. And the other team will feel like they are forever cursed

At half time with it 0-0 I decided to get to the stadium (couldn't get a ticket)and drove from the other side of Salisbury at break neck speed to get to the ground, ditched my vehicle and ran to the ground and got in as the gates were open. Just to sample the atmosphere. I managed to see a few minutes but just to breathe in the joy was fantastic.

  8. Funny old game. We couldn't have felt worse as a fan base prior to today.

Within the space of 90 minutes, everything has changed. Were arguably favourites for the playoffs with a route to the prem against teams we've beaten four times already this season

  9. Think this happened a few years ago when we got to Wembley. You could buy a membership at the last minute and get priority.

Moral of story, don't buy a membership until you actually need it.

that bank holiday weekend.  Middlesbourghs late equaliser, Ipswich late winner, we'd be on 87 points with Ipswich and Leeds now with a game in hand on them both.

Many have spoken about the Ipswich winner...I'm most annoyed about the Blackburn game. The players and manager had all but given up and the performance and result reflected that.

Nah, a couple of Saints fans were booted out for trying to create an atmosphere by banging the advertising boards.

I was near it and came out livid with them. They were acting like arses, winding the crowd up coz they got a bit of attention.

The stewards could've handled it better and the fans egging them on likely distracted the players a bit and they concede. I could see the players keep looking round.

Ok they should be more professional but why would we even chance causing a distraction to our team.

And our own fans cheering them on for 15 minutes was dumb.

Basically dumb all round and an unnecessary bit of self harm. Hope they are banned for rest of season we could do without the distraction
