  1. Actually I thought we played quite well. The defence went AWOL for 15 minutes in the first half and we missed a few chances. Apart from that it was OK.

I thought that our approach to the game needed more variation. I think it was obvious that we weren't going to get very far continually pumping high balls into the box.

I would like to have seen much more passing on the deck and intelligent movement.

Pardew has worked miracles considering how poor we have been for years and considering that the squad was in tatters a few days before the season started.

I think Saint Richmond is overreacting in the face of a single bad result in anotherwise impressive sequence.

  2. Yeah, Shearer and Keegan wanted to manage the Saints and Mummy's Boy Fiasco was worth hundreds of millions ....

Why doesn't MLT keep his trap shut and let ML and AP get on with the reality of sorting out a club brought to its knees by delusions of grandeur ..?

  3. Even the best sides offer discounts for supposedly less attractive games.

For example, any seat at Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea v Athletico Madrid in the Champions League is £19.50 for adults and £9.50 for kids. Non-members might pay a quid or two more, I don't know.

Which makes £25 to watch a Third Division game against Yeovil seem very expensive.

  4. I'm quite relieved that John is going - I thought it was a mistake to build an attack around someone so old, slow and lazy.

Let's hope we can find a finisher who is both strong and pacey - then we can let Raziak go as well.

  5. I don't know what all the fuss is about. It's a Saints XI. Pardew needs to see things beyond the training ground and I'm sure he is making decisions.

I am completely unconcerned about losing this particular match.

    Agree 100%.

Bearing in mind that we start on minus 10 and that AP has only 2 weeks in which to find let alone organise a squad, his target for 09/10 must simply be to avoid relegation.

  6. John has a shot like a cruise missile - particularly volleying - and is decent in the air with service which to be fair is very different from Euell.

I agree that John has a decent shot and is OK in the air but IMMHO he is just too slow to be able to use these attributes ... I find him truly painful to watch ... he just makes life so easy for defenders ..

I really hope that we get rid of him ..

  7. Euell always looked to me like a player who had been quite good in his day but was too old and too slow to even get to the ball let alone do anything useful with it.

You need pace in every division - otherwise you don't get into the game. Also, using forwards who have no pace puts a massive extra burden on the rest of the team - both in terms of having to produce pin-point passes and in terms of making opposition defences feel comfortable and encouraging them to push forward.

I would also get rid of Stern John for the same reason.

  8. .. Both Matt and I are very disappointed that our people did not end up buying it ...

Yes we're gutted that your illustrious team (or was it just one investor, forgive me I forget) was unable to complete the purchase as a result of which we've had to make do with a common-or-garden multi-billionaire who doesn't use fan forums to project his fantasies ..

  9. This is a fantastic appointment.

Good experience, plays football the right way, is capable of managing us through all three divisions, he has something to prove, good contacts and reputation in the game.

Also he has no sodding "affinity to Southampton" the most over rated requirement people bang on about on here.

If he's still with us in three years time I would expect us to be a solid CCC level club at worst.

Personally I am pleased it isn't Strachan, I would have been uncomfortable with that appointment long term because I wouldn't understand his motivation.

New owners, new board, new manager, new players, new club. Brilliant.

    Agree with that 100%.

  10. Can't say I'm that happy about Pearson - I thought he did OK with Saints last time around but no more than that ... mind you the circumstances were very far from ideal ... taking over a team of slow, demoralized donkeys with only a few games in which to avoid the drop ...

His record at Leicester is very good ... maybe we should judge him on that ...?

  11. St Mary's can be extended up to 45,000, but I'll be very surprised if it ever happens.

Would that be by adding a second tier all round or massively expanding one or two of the stands?

  12. I think it would be wrong not to bring him in in some capacity. You can tell he wants to be involved and it would be a great lift for the fans to see him come on board.

Only time will tell I guess but if Mr Liebherr is advised well I think he may get some sort of role at St Marys.

I disagree. MLT has sensibly and gracefully distanced himself while he still can. The Swiss may want him involved - I don't know - but they certainly don't need him.

He was a great and loyal player - but let's not forget that his fronting up the Pinnacle bid might have cost the club its existence. It calls into question his judgement.

Let's have a fresh start without all this MLT legend stuff - it belongs to the past.
