  1. Dont know if anyone is interested, but Elvis Presleys original guitarist has died aged 84.

His playing was on the soundtracks on nearly all of Elvis songs from 1954-60.He last played his guitar with Elvis on his 68 comeback.

    Rip great man.

  2. This is owned by my mother-in -law and her husband at their holiday house in Bulgaria. They had always wanted a swimming pool and were lucky enough to find a local builder who was more than happy to do this.

Im off out there to use it next June, apparantly its best enjoyed when you have a beer in your hand.

  3. This happened to my wife,in the same place about a year ago.

As it was on private land, she didnt pay the fine, despite warnings.Eventually the parking company said pay half and we will call it quits, although she didnt even do this.Apparantly it costs far too much to take it to court,so they never bother.

Nothing ever happened. So my advice is ignore it.

  4. I would say mines a 9.

I had a lot of good family get togethers earlier this year. There were a lot of great festivals in the summer, when the weather was good and i went to Memphis and Sun Studios in September,a place ive always wanted to visit.Actually while in Memphis i met my best mate from school who i havent seen for 20 years.Wow that blew me away!

Happy new year to all on here.

  5. Fantastic place. Visited Memphis on a road trip that took in Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, Little Rock (Arkansas), Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Louisiana, Biloxi (Miss), Nobile, Atlanta.

Whether you're an Elvis fan or not, you have to go to Graceland. It is such a weird place but well worth a visit. Love it or hate it, it is like no other place you will ever visit

Sun Studios is brilliant. Even taking into account it is now a tourist destination (although it is still a working recording studio) if you have any feel for popular music history, you'll feel it at Sun Studios.

Stax Studio is great and the Memphis Rock And Soul Museum is superb, the only museum outside Washington to be set up by the Smithsonian Institute.

The National Civil Rights Museum is very thought provoking and humbling. It is based around the Lorraine Motel where MLK was shot, and if you want to feel uncomfortable, take in the cafe mock-up and that of the bus Rosa Parks sat in to see what black Americans had to endure.

The same criticisms that apply to Bourbon St apply to Beale St, although it's not quite as bad. It's worth a night out, especially if you like live music and you like it bluesy, ballsy, brash and loud.

New Orleans is great but we decided to go off the beaten track to find the real Louisiana, We stayed out in the boonies near Breaux Bridge and went to a Fais Do Do.

A Fais Do Do is a Cajun dance party or social gathering, They are held all over the place - restaurants, bars, cafes, church halls - and if you ask around people will direct you to one.

It takes a bit of balls to pitch up as they are not organised for tourists but we were welcomed with open arms by the Cajuns who are very friendly people - especially considering what the Brits did to their ancestors in Canada,

They play Zydeco music, which cannot fail to get you moving, the food is help yourself and could include alligator jambalaya, and we never paid for a drink all night, as people kept coming up to us and saying: "We've never had any British folks here before," and insisted on talking to us.

You'll hear the phrase Laissez les bon temps rouler (Let the good times roll) all the time in New Orleans, where it's become a bit of a cliched catchphrase. But it's genuine in the Cajun bayous and our night at the Fais Do do will go down as one of my top three nights out ever.

Thanks Fm for all of the above.Im going to Memphis because im into rockabilly and very early Elvis, also i will hit fifty when im out there,so i thought i had better go soon, while i still can have my hair in a quiff.lol.Sun Studios is a definate for me,as ive always wanted to visit there.Just to be in the place where Elvis,Johnny Cash,Carl Perkins,Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Oribison started out will be awesome.I will try and get to one of those Cajun parties as well,as they sound fantastic.Only three weeks to go now, so getting excited now.

  6. If that family had any ounce of decency, they would have had a private funeral away from the media and without all of the forelore that went along with it.But of course that means they were landed with the bill and we cant have that, when the taxpayer can foot the bill.

  7. Interesting you making the connection with our fishy friends there. If we've learned anything from the hilarity of the Takeover Saga thread it's that we don't want the same thing to happen to us. Many posters on here point the accusing finger at Skate fans for accepting what was going on at their club for the short-term glory and ignoring the glaringly obvious fact that it would only ever end badly for them. Are we to do the same? Sit back and say "oh well - if Nicola wants to spunk loads of borrowed funds and go for the glory then he must know what he's doing"?

One recurring theme we get from our pet Skates on the PTS thread is that they would happily see the club fall lower if it meant they could finally get rid of the cancer that has been killing them for the last few years and start afresh with an honest club that they can be proud of. That resonates with me right now. Cortese has had my full support up until now. He's rubbed a few people up the wrong way along the line, and I always previously adopted the belief that you sometimes have to be a little ruthless if you want to succeed and didn't allow myself to be bothered by it, but not any more. This action he has taken today has left me sick to my stomach.

EVERYTHING that Nigel has achieved here over the last two and a half years has come about because of the honest values of the man, the man that united the fanbase in a way that nobody has done since the days of Gordon Strachan. Far and away the best manager I have seen in my Saints-supporting life, and one that I really felt could finally provide us with the stability we have been craving since Chris Nicholl was sacked 21 years ago. His optimism and belief was infectious and there is no doubt in my mind he will go on to greater things. He brought a feelgood factor to SFC because of his integrity, and in one foul swoop today a narrow-minded, megalomaniac fool has wiped out all trace of that and turned us into Chelsea mark II.

Fantastic post.I totally agree with this.

  8. Giving an award to Tracey Emin is the biggest joke ever. This is the so called "Artist" who put an unmade bed in an exhibition and called it art.If that all its takes,my kids should be worth millions.

  9. I used to be a windscreen fitter many moons ago and the "magnet" you mention is a small piece of metal which slides out of your rear view mirror.Take this out, give it a clean so the surface which touches the screen is flat, keeping it the same way up(otherwise the grooves at its sides wont match up),put a small dab of glue on it(not super glue because this can crack your windscreen), stick it on.Leave this for about a day, then slowly ease on the mirror over the metal tab.Hopefully this should work.
