  1. Maybe he's gone hme to get some clean pants and socks?

In all seriousness must be strange moving country at the drop of a hat like that! Can't be that straight forward having to sort all of it along with playing

  2. So the now the committee dont "seek" out players its the scouting network, who is our man on the ground in Milan?

I don't think I led to anything different. What's the point in having scouts otherwise.

Either way I can't be arsed!

  3. We now have a failed manager, a 30 year old former lower league player and a 47 year former lower league player, now call me naive..........................

If you want to look at it that way. The original point was that I don't think Reed is singling out players to buy, and I also don't beleive Cortese is. I beleive the scouting team find players based on the requirements. A decision is make as to who we sign, based on a number of terms. Then Cortese will go out and try and sign them. Then obviously the latter doesn't always happen. That's football

By the way - I never called you naive!

  4. My brother used to deal with those sorts of deals should we get him on board?

Do we have scouts solely for Southampton FC in Italy?

Maybe it has something to do with the money falling out of the market in Italy and Cortesse having connections with people - still nothing to say he is picking players! There are a stack of clubs selling players at the moment as if the offer is right, they can't afford to turn it down

  5. Who are we bidding for then that we cant afford?

So Cortese has nothing to do with the selection of players?

    He only signs the cheques?

I have no idea who we are looking at - but I'm pretty sure Adkins would sign Messi if he could, but we obviously can't afford him. So I'm sure there are other players who would want wages too high etc... If you don't have someone to control that you end up like Liverpool with **** players who they spent too much money on!

How do you know he does? I have no confirmed reports (other than rumour) that convince me otherwise. Call me naive or call me sensible. Up to you!

  6. But I am not a professional footballer, hold I still could get on the committee, what does Cortese know exactly of the game?

So you would prefer a him not to be on the committee and not have anything to do with our transfers. Do you not think it's his job to say - actually guys we can't afford him?

  7. So there are four on the buying committee now, an accountant, a person with little experience in buying players (Paul Mitchell), Les Reed who has failed as a football manager and one who one of our most decorated footballers has no respect for and our Nige.

I sorry I dont have much faith in them purchasing good deals, prospects and bargains.

Right or another way of putting it...

The Chairman - you know the guy who runs the club, does the deals, and has all the money

The head of recruitment and scouting - you know the guy who is in charge of all the scouts and scouting network

The head of development - The one who is in charge the over seeing the clubs philosophy from u8's right through to first team

The manager - Yep that guy who runs the team

hmmmm, you have an interesting view sometimes!

  8. Some people do know more about what we does than others. People seem to get upset about Reed because of his time at Charlton which is largely irrelevant IMO .

And the fact that he is on the transfer committee, even though no-one seems to know how much say he has in anything!

  9. Who signs the players at Southampton and how many people are on this committee?

I'm not 100% as as far as I know, other than Adkins, Reed, Cortese, hunter, and the scouting team I'm don't know who else is consulted. I mean the doctor will have a say when doing the medical, doesn't mean he finds targets!

Do you know who has what say for sure?

  10. Who signs the players at Southampton FC, thats all we want to know.

FFS! Being on the committee does not mean signing players! He has been working with the academy and u21 and u18 teams. If we are signing youth players why should he not get a say? There is no proof about how much say he has in anything?!

  11. from people who seemingly don't really know what it is he does

For me this is the problem. Because he is on the transfer committee, he seems to get a lot of flack! Suddenly he is signing players and has no idea what he's talking about. Or at least that's the impression I get from people.

for the job he does he seems to have a pretty good CV?

  12. absolutely not...we need wins.

we have thrown away enough points to suggest that we need a win now...

they are woeful at the mo and a point would be a disappointing result imo

    This

Even though in the long run it might be enough, it would be ideal now to start trying to kick on and put some space between us and teams below us, which I feel could have happened. Other than Sunderland I think we have got some good points last few games, would be a shame not to capitalize on that again!

  13. Yep, agree completely. We are now in damage-limitation/crisis mode...AGAIN.

And already 11 days in, playing Villa tomorrow in what could very well be NAs last match if we make a complete f**king hash of it, and we might as well be singing :

"lets all scratch our arses, lets all scratch our arses, la-la-la-la-OI !!! la-la-la-la-OI !!!

lets all scratch our arses, lets all scratch our arses, la-la-la-la-OI !!! la-la-la-la-OI !!!"

Well I think it's eveident we identified targets in the summer, as Adkins stated about two centre backs, but one of them we were in for (as has been mentioned on here) didn't come off. Now people say why wasnt their a back up? What if the back up was ****? Then what would people say. It's incredible the same point is brough up over and over again. I'm pretty sure they aren't sat around scratching their arses! Transfers are pretty complicated. The club want x amount, the player wants x amount, then what if we don't think the player is worth that, or the player is unsure about moving. With so many unknowns why does everyone think it's as easy as saying we want x player, here is some money, thanks!

  14. OK if our management are that incompetent, then which other club has achieved this simple task? Other then the massively inflated Sturridge move (I am sure we would have got all of our targets in the summer twice their market value!), I would love know who has out executed us, and where we have missed out?

Also - if you agree a transfer ready for the window - what happens if that player then breaks his leg a week before the transfer! You're stuck with him. A club wouldn't let you back down from it, why would they if you agreed to it! It's that or they are going to pay their player and not play him? Again no club would do that either!
