  1. So both Aston Villa and Man City have sold out with only initial allocations taken.

I'm not sure how quickly Villa sold out but i can apprecaite being cautious for an average opponent for a game that's been moved to a Friday night and is on TV.

But City away sold out in four days! The club said they'd ask for more if they sold quickly - how quickly would they have had to have sold to ask for more?! A Saturday 3pm game against one of the best teams in the league...we always take over 1k now for any away game so this is a really disapointing call by the club.

I know the club have to make up the shortfall if we don't sell all the extra tickets but i can't imagine we'd have been far short of selling 3k. No point having these good new players on the wage bill if it's going to mean we can't afford to take a risk on a few extra tickets and we can't actually watch them.

  2. It's horrible.

I'll not buy but my son's might get it.

That said if we go back to black shorts it might bring it round. If we'd had black shorts last year it works have offset the mainly red top, imo.

  3. Typical media made 'news'.

A campaign by the media for something no one really cares either way about creating pressure on the authorities to allow it.

Cue a select few that rightly/wrongly don't adhere to it = stacks of copy for next weeks papers.

    Rolling News. God.

  4. Both of Boltons grounds were/are sh1t holes for different reasons.

I've been to both Wembley and actually like them both.

To be honest my general feeling for a ground is more linked to how many fans we take and what kind of match I've seen. For example I've seen both of Leicester's grounds but don't favour one over the other as, like the matches I saw, they were pretty forgettable.

  5. No chance. Beckford has pace but not much more. Not the quality we are looking to build. Also big question mark over his temperament. I remember him sulking off after getting subbed against us at Elland Road in the 09-10 season.

  6. From a little bit of shotgun research only four teams have been promoted out of the third division and gone on to finish in the top 6 of the second division the following season (in the years between Man City and Norwich actually securing promotion)

According to Wikipedia they are (yrs relate to their Championship top 6 finish)

    1999 - Man City

    2001 - Preston

    2002 - Millwall

    2003 - Reading

    2008 - Bristol City

    2011 - Norwich

I thought it would have been more than that so this might manage expectations a little! I suppose looking back a number of those teams promoted wouldn't have had anywhere near the resources we have, but then I doubt the Championship has ever been as strong as it will be on paper this coming season.

  7. For me

    Strachan - great achievements

Ball - great season, great memories, great to see Matty in his plomb. Should be number 3 but...

Hoddle - ...can't forgive him for up'ing and leaving when he had the chance to be a true legend IMO

Pardew - Can't believe the stick he gets. Don't know what went on but we had a brilliant season last year and built an entire team and squad from a standing start

Adkins - only manager in my lifetime to win a promotion so a great achievement, just below Pardew at this stage as i think he's only finished his job off. If he gets promotion back to the PL in the next two seasons i think he'd have to go top of the list.

Not sure why Dave Jones is appearing in as many top 5 lists. The claims made against him were horrible but after the great first season i think he got it all wrong, a number of poor signings (though some good ones too) and terrible tactics. Not the worst manager out of that list but surpirsed to see him feature so heavily in people's top 5.

  8. Because they were/are a better all round team than us. Hence the need to strengthen in certain areas.

    Were they?

Didn't we beat them twice last year and drew the other. I'd suggest we've improved this season as well so would say we are going up in as good a shape as they did.

  9. Spot on.

Puncheon will join a long list of players not rated by Saints fans on here who go on to play regularly at a higher level proving they are not crap.

    Jones

    Fuller

    Blackstock

    Ormerod

    Crainey

    Cranie

    Higgingbotham

    Telfer

    McGoldrick

    Davies

    Delap

    Baird

    Mills

    Williamson

    Rasiak

    Best

    Euell

Not fair. Just because I didn't think Danny Higgingbotham was good enough for first choice centreback in the Prem in 2005 doesn't mean I'd not want him in the team now!

You're comparing Apples and Pears with that list and inferring they were hounded out of town.

  10. Heading back from game. Poor. 1st half started ok but quickly out muscled and outpaced. Shocking decision making from Davis and Fonte knocking the ball around on slippy surface. Huddersfield had great energy but both goals came from errors, albeit under great pressure.

Don't think Davis made a save second half but we'd have not scored all week. Lambo, Fonte, Punch shockingly bad. Better second half but as I say, toothless. Embarrassing afternoon. No plan b today...
