  1. It's a bit late now. We just sold his vision in case you hadn't seen.

Really? When he came here we were near the bottom of League One. He would still inherit a top club manager and the facilities.

If anything, we were waiting for his next five year plan.

All he needs to do is find another Markus and the dream could still be alive...

  2. It should be like this:

Both chairman Ralph Krueger and director Les Reed.

    Made statements.

That were quickly used to beat them with.

    When their words were exposed.

    As hollow ones.

The final word is wholly superfluous.

    It should have read:

"When their words were exposed as hollow."

I hate bad writing. Really, really hate it. The quality of journalism in the world today has been ruined by social media and the belief that everyone can communicate simply because they have the tools so to do.

We all have cars, it does not make us Ayrton Senna...

  3. Well, from what I saw of our players in the England squad during the WC I wasnt fantastically confident of their ability to take it to the next level...

Only Morgan has really impressed, despite Gashton's one kick of the ball........

Thought Morgan was outstanding last season and looks totally at home on the international stage.

Cannot comprehend why some people didn't rate him...

  4. I blame Pochettino for this whole Effing mess. By continuously talking up their skills to some of our players he has made them self obsessed, big headed, arrogant and greedy. No wonder they all believe it is now beneath their dignity to play for a small provincial club and will probably be in permanent denial about us from now on. Then to cap it all, the miserable Argentinian git is the first of the Rats to bu.g.ger off and jump ship, probably in the knowledge that he had successfully sowed the seeds of discontent so that nobody could inherit HIS team and do a better job than him with the same player. Now we will never know. Everyone blamed Cortese for the sh.it stirring in the press but I wonder?

Of course we've all been suckered too by trusting a bloke with a perma tan and an easy smile for all and sundry, we should have known better.

CEO 1: "What if we invest in improving our people and they leave."

CEO 2: "What if we don't and they stay...?"

I don't mind that players and managers come here, do a great job and move onto bigger and better things.

To do this they have to excel with us. So who loses? No-one.

The alternative is that no-one wants our players and we fall into the abyss.

Suarez will be off to Barca in a week. Then Liverpool fans will be wondering how their club moves forward? Answer, with £70m in the bank...

Our club has excelled in the past ten(?) years at uncovering talents who are becoming coveted the world over.

And one day, that money may help us become one of those clubs that those players will then also covet.

Our manager has won the Dutch league, been part of the Barca infrastructure, worked with some of the world's top managers and footballers. And is respected across Europe.

Ten years ago it was a bloke who was sacked from Coventry City.

  5. People who would be happy to sell Lovren need a lobotomy.

The guy is one of the best defenders in Europe.

Our spine of Wanyama, Morgan, Lovren, Fonte and Boruc had us in a CL spot and for ten games we were the second best defence in Europe.

As soon as one of them was injured we leaked like an Italian battleship...

Shaw is a blow, Adam is sad, but any of the above would be bloody madness!

  6. Possibly the backroom staff could have been partly why its been drawn out. Gio Van Bronkhorst is staying at Feyenoord so he would need an assistant. Apparently has a fitness coach he might bring, but the rest might need recruiting. Kelvin as GK coach?

Hope he can bring in the people he actually wants.

Kelvin as GK coach? Bless him but really?

  7. Rickie bought as a Liverpool starter? Can't see it...try already have to fit in Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling,

If Rickie would start it would be in the middle of Suarez and Sturridge, and therefore they'd lose Sterling to the bench, I'm pretty sure Rickie has been brought in to add to their England contingent and add to their squad for their extra games they'll have this season.

Everyone seems to be overlooking that Liverpool will now have two games every week with the CL.

Rickie will start against teams like WBA, us, Stoke and so on.

Mourinho was saying this a few weeks ago. Livepool were lucky to have been out of every cup competition so early. It's easy playing one game a week. That's why Rickie is there.

  8. I don't think Chambers is in any way average.

Me neither. He is quick and mobile and better in the air than Shaw (possibly because of his height). I also think this final ball is better.

I am starting to agree with the folks above who think he is a future Centre Back.

  9. madness, a classic case of our best player is off so let's make out that one of our average players is actually better. You'll be telling us that Gallagher is better than Lambert next, Grow up.

Thank you. Remind me to register with the thought police who govern what a poster really means...

I would be disappointed to lose Shaw, just happen to think the gap between our full backs is not as vast as some clearly do.

I'd love to see the analysis on which side has conceded most goals this year, for example? I've no idea personally.

Of players we can afford to lose, though, Shaw would be a shame but not terminal. Any of Boruc, Lovren, Wanyama, Morgan would be disastrous.

Our success this year was built on the first 12/13 games when we had the best defensive record in Europe (bar one club).

Losing Lovren, Victor and Boruc cost us a European place, in my view.

Lallana gets the headlines, but our defensive success was more impressive at the start and then end of the season.

  10. Having watched them both this season, I actually think Chambers is a better player than Shaw. And looks more likely to score more often (not his primary job, I know that).

Is this one of those 'media' things where they've seen one player, are all fawning over each other and have forgotten to look across the back line?

(Yes, I know Shaw is very good. I just happen to think Chambers is better).

  11. Yup, I agree. If one wants to take the cynical approach then Rickie was probably not going to be such a central player for us in the coming seasons, so a £4M sale is very good for a player in decline. But if you want to take the more emotional approach that Rickie is a talisman for the club and that he is a role model for the young fans, then you're probably a softie like myself who can't help looking at the bigger picture in the amazing saga of Rickie Lambert. And I'm thankful that we played a part in the most important chapter about the symbiosis between SFC and Rickie Lambert. The Liverpool years will be an epilogue to end the story in style... I can't help being happy for the big guy.

Anyone who watched his first interview for LFC cannot doubt that he is 'home' at the only club he ever genuinely dreamt of playing for.

He has to fight back tears - they guy genuinely loves that football club.

And how anyone could begrudge him the chance to play for them is beyond me.

You'd have to be a complete, feckless, idiot. Oh wait...

  12. Didnt he do that for us then ?

As for the rest of your post - b*ll*cks. EPL football is now a billion-dollar industry; there is no room for such sentimentality any more. And I certainly dont believe our board did it out of sheer benevolence.

No you wouldn't believe that because you lack any love in your heart.

Thankfully there are enough of us in the world who do believe in happy endings to compensate.

  13. "There may be circumstances under which the club will feel it is right for a player to move on."

All the get-out clause they need.

    ..OR, how about:

"This lad dreamt from the age of 3 to play and score in front of the Kop. How could we stand in the way of this man, who has done so much for this club, fulfilling his life's ambition".

Because that's what the statement means.

That's what it says in as many words.

These were exceptional circumstances. And I, for one, admire our club not standing in the way of a fairytale ending for a man who deserves it.

A footballer who has given me back my faith in football.

I bet he didn't even ask his agent if they would pay him.

  14. Laudrup is being dismissed as an option due to newspaper reports about his lack of interest and lack of time spent on the training ground. But weren’t the same accusations pointed to MP in a recent newspaper article?

Laudrup would be free, has managed a similar sized club, delivering Europe, cup win/final (the first major trophy in Swansea's 100-year history) + he plays a similar passing style to MP (allowing some continuity at all levels)

Laudrup also has good contacts it seems and his signings for Swansea have been largely impressive (Bony + Michu especially)

He left Swansea in mid-table and still in the FA Cup and Europa League.

Laudrup is a Barcelona-style coach and that's the way we play. He'd be my choice.

  15. I'm pretty sure we'll survive with Jay up top alongside a new forward or two.

I'm pretty sure we'll be ok without Lallana.

I'm not that concerned about Shaw, although I would hate to lose him so soon,

But - we must retain the spine of our team. The guys who give us the defensive strength to play around:

    Dejan, Victor, Artur and Morgan.

Losing any of them, in my view, would be suicidal.

There are plenty of options around in this league and elsewhere around the flanks and up front.
