  1. As a non-smoker I can't really say with any authority but one mate reckons electronic cigarettes were the solution, and actually pretty damn good at getting the kick whilst getting the 'smoking experience'.

  2. You are going to have a fantastic trip for sure. South America is my favourite continent to visit, I love it.

I have not been everywhere you are going but the highlights of places that I did go to:

    Inca Trail/Machu Picchu/Cusco

3 or 4 day trip/Salar de Uyuni on from San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni (or vice versa)

Iguassu (Argentinian side best to stay; Brazilian side best overall view, but not much else to do; town just inside Paraguay, Ciudad del Este is worth giving a miss though)

Colombia was my favourite country: people amazing and beautiful place (recommend Medellin - paragliding ace; Cartagena; Salento; a couple of football matches were easy enough to just turn up at - best atmosphere ever in teh away end with America de Cali fans; the women are amazing too; this is one country I am going back to)

Rio de Janeiro (hang-gliding cool there too; can get to a football match at Maracana easily enough, including transport; Marius restaurant on Leme is amazing)

    Torres del Paine hiking, beautiful

Isla del Sol on Lake Titicaca

Battlefield tour(s) and walk around mountains outside Stanley in Falklands + Sea Lion Island - would like to have spent more time here (not Stanley though - other islands)

I noticed you missed out Venezuela, but you seem to go from the Amazon to Guyana - I haven't been there, but I would love to go to Canaima NP in Venezuela and it seems like you could do this, so I would look at it. Looks amazing, the "Lost World" scenery. I will go one day, high up on my 'list'.

You can get by with a Spanish phrasebook but will enjoy it more learning the lingo and using it - you will be fine on that count.

Marching Powder is a good read.

  3. The fact is we don't know if there is a God or not, that I will accept, but you're ultimate dismissal of God without knowing if he exists, is the same as my belief that he does exist. Accept that.

Blah blah blah, but given the available evidence/facts, it is totally illogical to believe that god exists. Accept that.

btw, your not you're. Accept that too. Where was god for your spellcheck?

  4. In no particular order, these spring to mind:

    Mastodon - The Hunter

    Graveyard - Hisingen Blues

Crowbar - Sever The Wicked Hand

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - Blood Lust

A Pale Horse Named Death - And Hell Will Follow Me

Cynic - Carbon Based Anatomy (EP)

Steven Wilson - Grace For Drowning

    Opeth - Heritage

  5. Another quality hissy fit from Becky. I seem to recall one a few years ago when she was threatening to sue someone who suggested she might be pocketing charity money (which I think was subsequently proven as going towards the cost of her trekking holiday). The quote "I hope you have a good lawyer" rings a bell.

Very funny and up there with Crouchie going to Tenerife etc...

  6. I've had similar discussions with close friends too... I generally support more left wing policies, but there are some Tory policies I agree with. Even MP's within a party don't agree with all their central policies. This is why I struggle to understand those with entrenched positions about any given party, and despair when political discussions (especially historical ones) focus on the personalities and generalisations rather than looking at policy and outcome on an individual basis.

Agree with this Mincy. And as for those with entrenched positions, none more entrenched on here than that tiresome old dear, bridge too far. Honestly, if Labour put a stuffed donkey up for election in her constituency, she'd vote for it.
