  1. Surely 'priority' would mean as a must have upgrade for the first team, therefore left back is not really a priority as we would basically be buying a back up.

Centre-back upgrade, centre-mid upgrade and attacking mid upgrade for me.

Actually I'd like to buy an upgrade on Bertrand and reduce him to the back up role. He ain't getting any younger and has been rumoured to be trying to get out since Puel's tenure. He hasn't really looked like his heart is in it for a long time.

  2. Bowen has looked class when I've watched him but nowhere near a priority.

A RB, CM then CB are the clear priorities.

Surely a LB is the priority we have one in the whole squad and when he doesn't play we have all sorts problems having to play players out of position.

  3. Turned performances around? We had one game against a side who didn't turn up where we looked OK yet they still cut through us at will.

Either your level of sarcasm is genius or you have 'Always' type positivity.

    Either way I'm impressed.

Bollix. That was our best performance of the season all this Arsenal didn't turn up is just rubbish.

To early say if it's a turn around or just a freak good performance by the players but in isolation it's was a good performance against a top six team.

  4. I still feel he could make us into a decent PL side.

Liked that he went back to his principles yesterday: mobile, aggressive pacy (where possible) lineup. He has strayed away from that, I think after understandably losing faith in out defenders so good to see a bit of a reset.

Massive games to come before Christmas, need min of 7 points from the next 4.

Have to see if the players can keep it up. One thing I've got used to the last few seasons is false dawns. This group of players can occasionally put in a good team performance, that gives you hope they've turned a corner, but they seem to struggle to repeat it week after week to get any sort of constant good form going.

  5. Give him some credit for changing tactics yesterday. If we had Cahill at the back we wouldn’t be conceding late goals.

I questioned his selection yesterday, but he nearly pulled it off.

We like at least look like a proper team again. There is a glimmer of hope that wasn’t there before.

Arguably he did pull it off. The nature of the late equalizer yesterday put a dampener on things but that was our best performance of the season and normally a draw at Arsenal would be considered a good result.

  6. I would think Hasenhuttl is peeing himself as well
I doubt it I imagine he is praying our basket case of club release him, with a nice retirement package, from the purgtory of trying to coach duffers like JWP and Stephens into footballers...

  7. Why not Boufal or Djenepo over Obafemi? It just doesn’t make any sense, like most of what RH is doing at the moment.
Pace would be my guess. Obafemi is very rapid... sadly it's paired with Shane Long like ball control and shooting ability.

Obafemi won't last the game anyway usually after one breakneck speed sprint he pulls up with a hamstring injury.

  8. That midfield and defence is hopeless

Their defence looks equally as bad; the difference is the forwards they have.

Is there any defence or midfield we can put out with this squad that doesn't look hopeless?

  9. Well at least we have two actual fullbacks in the fullback postions....

It says so much about the squad though that what ever CB, in a two or a three, combination the manager puts out my reaction is " oh bollix"

Romeu being dropped is a bit WTF he is the only central midfielder in the squad that I rate the other three all make me go "oh bollix" when ever they appear on the team sheet.

I guess the new Shane Long won't play for long his first big sprint and he will limp off....

  10.

I don’t think it’s that bad yet personally we are just in a place right now where we are struggling to find the right formula and also haven’t really managed to have a transfer window that turns us around. When we start having a transfer window where we make say three signings like this summer who all come in actually improve the first team we can see progress, but seems some disconection here between Ralph and recruitment. But Djenepo really does look a diamond.

Also have to say are we really looking worse now then our last spell in the premiership under Rupert Lowe ? Back then we were buying no better players then we do now in my opinion and was also fighting relegation most seasons. We had some good times in the cortese poch and koeman eras but now are starting to return to our level, but I do think we can turn it around if we start getting the transfers right and a manager who can get us playing above our level, Steve Walsh sounds promising hope we get him.

I think it's worse than you think. Pinning your hopes on us have a couple of good transfer windows to get us back on track seems very optimistic given our recent history.

One massive difference between our time under Lowe and this time was we had MLT a player who could win a match and get us points through sheer bloody brilliance we have nothing like that this time.

The 90s are a long time ago now and maybe I'm a bit nostalgic but I'm sure the lads back then had way more fight and heart than this current bunch. It felt a lot more like the players and fans where in it together in the relegation scraps this current lot just give the impression they're not to bothered.

  11. When you're washing money you don't necessarily expect to get the full amount back.

If he ends up spending 30 or 40 mill to get 160 out of China he'll be pleased, I suspect.

yeah I cant see him getting 200 mil if we go down he will taking a much reduced offer I reckon (though he will probably try and snaffle the parachute payments as well) after all 30 mil is better that sweet FA when he has completely ****ed us up.

  12. To be honest I'm starting to think the only way to get rid of the owners is to crash and burn while we continue to hang on in the PL the owner will stay and carry on with their failed policies. Just scraping survival in the PL season after season doesn't really hold any appeal.

It worked out for the better last time but there’s no guarantee we get another Markus or an owner that would progress us much past what we are now if we ever made it back. We might even end up another Coventry or Sunderland type. As bad as it seems now it was a lot more depressing in the days of wotte/poorviliet in the championship .

I'd argue we are already Sunderland. As a club we act and look just like they did a few years back in the PL under Ellis Short even down to the record thumping, endless manager turn over, ****e players on two much money, and having an owner who wants out and no interest in investing there is only one way we are going and its league 1 the only issue is how long it takes. (on the upside going down the leagues might mean two proper south coast derbies a season)

  13. Surely the only way he sells is if we stay in the PL?

More important now than ever to stay up given the state of the club.

Why? If we get relegated and he really wants out he will have to take a lesser offer. No one is going to give him 200 million with the club in its current state.

It's his own fault anyway he over paid for us and then he basically lets us drift into relegation fodder. If he really wanted his investment to be worth what he paid for it he should have invested more time and money in the club.

  14. I get that, but it is almost Hobsons choice, get rid of the owner as a result of relegation but potentially go on huge decline or hang on in there and hope something changes with ownership, Id prefer the latter. I just don't think Saints are enough of a draw for a potential investor once we are in the championship. I know it happened once, but that is possibly never to be repeated.
Though I could be wrong Gao is apparently trying to sell his share of the club...

  16. Let's face It will be ****.

We will buy some average Joe player, (probably an attacking winger, as that's the part of the team where we have some useful options already) for like 10 million euros while basically ignoring the obvious issues like fullbacks, CBs and CM.

Ralph (or whichever poor **** is saddled with the job by then) will tow the party line and claim this is exactly the signing he was hoping for and the team can now push on.

After a few games it will be obvious that said new signing is hopeless out of his depth..

  17. I’d settle for the temporary turn around if it somehow was enough to keep us up. The alternative is oblivion, I can’t see us recovering from this if we continue.

  18. Isn't that how half the table operates season to season? Fighting to stay in the league?

Maybe just me but I find some of the defence of our results quite pathetic really. What you are basically saying is for Ralph to be a good manager he needs to have world class players.

Puel had basically the same squad and did a lot better.

Hughes and MP2 had basically the same squad.

By your logic they were actually good managers too as they picked up points in a higher % of games than RH?

MP2 got at least a point in 59% of his games.

MH got at least a point in 49% of his games and RH has got at least a point in 48% of his games.

I think we all agree the players are not very good. Not when you compare them to a team like Liverpool.

But for a club of our standing they are mostly fine.

When the manager isn't picking players in their correct positions and picks players who are not adding anything he is immune from criticism because the players are ****?

I don't buy it. And I do not accept as Marco alluded to that getting so few points in our past 6-7 games is anywhere near acceptable. What it shows to me is that when a team isn't doing well he lacks the know how or tactical brain to turn it around.

You earn your way to getting superstar clubs where you can spend hundreds of millions. You do that by making do with what you have and somehow getting more out of them. Look at Burnley and Sheff Utd.

If he doesn't have the ability to find the solutions to the problems we have than what is the point of him being here?

yeah yeah heard it all before. Its not the players they're actually good strange then that changing manager has made no difference several times already. If things carry on as they are the club will sack Ralph, everyone will rejoice, someone else will come in and we may get a new manager bounce and survive and then we can go through the whole crappy experience again next season. Like I said we are like Sunderland of a few seasons a go. A crap owner, no plan, empty promises, endless managers and a bunch of crap players with no bottle and little ability, on stupid wages a lovely little package all wrapped up in a little bow of malaise. the club is a mess from top to bottom and that can't just be fixed with simple solutions like sacking the manager it runs much deeper than that.

  19. So 1 point from the last 21 on offer is good going with the group of players we have?
Fighting relegation every season with this group of players is as good as it gets until we finally get relegated. This is the third relegation battle season in a row we are basically Sunderland.

  20. It is you who has the problem reading. Those 7% are catered for by a free electoral id scheme . As quoted by C4 fact check here.

A new photo driving licence costs 34 quid assuming a new voter ID would have a similar cost. You want to spend £119000000 of public money to protect the country from electoral fraud. A problem so vast that two whole people have been convicted of it since 2017 pretty sure the country could spend that sort of money better elsewhere.

Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

  21. I think you are looking for a problem that doesn't exist in any meaningful way. Also, would Whitehall reimburse the costs incurred by the councis, or would they have to suck up yet another overhead imposed from central Government from their already oversubscribed, austerity damaged, budgets ?

Why not go for RFID tags injected at birth, problem solved in 18 years, and Big Brother will finally have his comprehensive surveillance society.

Exactly if the government are going to do this properly it needs to roll out voting photo ID to every adult voter. Ideally as some are clearly terrified that electoral fraud is wide spread the voter ID card needs to hard to easily replicate. This is going cost a fair amount of cash.

Now given the electoral commission reports 2 convictions and 10 cautions for electoral fraud since 2017 it hardly seems worth the cost.

I'm not against the idea if there was clear evidence of huge amounts of electoral fraud that needed to be stamped out but there isn't.

  22. Jose Fonte just been on TalkSport saying that he doesn't think that Ralph will turn this around.
After four managers in three and a bit seasons I'm not really sure any manager can turn this squad around except on a very temporary basis. If we replace Ralph the players might try a bit harder, for a few games, for the new guy, and then they will just regress back to their natural level of a bit crap.

  23. Just a quick yes / no. Do you think it is appropriate that all personnel should provide ID in order to cast a vote?

    If not, why?

Just a quick yes / no do you you believe mass electoral fraud is being carried out in the Uk

If so where is your evidence?

  24. I think our problems run deeper than that and TBH Targett never really looked good enough. He'd be a bit better than Danso or Hoj but still a very limited, Championship level player IMO. Valery was a better player last year and look how poor he has been.
I think we have problems across the squad and I was never a particular fan of Targett but he'd still do a better job than sticking some random squad member there.

It's not really the point though becuase I wasn't against Targett leaving I just wanted him replaced with a better LB which we didn't do leaving us one LB who for various reasons hasn't been available for a big chunk of the season which is unbalancing our squad.
