He's still without a club but hasn't announced his retirement. Surely worth signing on a short term deal for the last few months of the season with the issues with we have at left back currently. I'm very concerned that KWP will get injured and Bree or Meghoma at the same time. Leaves us really short and weak in the full back position. Also would be a good role model for the youngsters.

    What have you been smoking?

Win or lose (we will win) we're in the play offs.

We've got to go to Leeds, and Leicester and Ipswich. I think the only way to be in with a shout of automatic promotion we will need to win all three. We will not do that.

Agree. In any other year, we would probably have a small buffer in the auto spot. The relentlessness of Leeds and Ipswich, added to the points we've dropped so far this season and the games we have left to play, means that play-offs is an almost certainty now.

What so RM says get to team possession stats but don’t try to score once we have all that possession?  Do you honestly Bellieve that?

Definitely, he only told them to score so many goals today to take the pressure off and revert to his preferred 1-0 win with 75% possession on Friday.

Great to see our domination now being converted into convincing wins. Keep this up and there's every chance we could grasp an auto-promotion slot, something that seemed unrealistic only a few weeks ago.  COYR!

Good job  that Martin instructed the team to score goals this week rather than to just keep possession, otherwise we might not have scored so many goals.

  5. When you’ve reached a point where you have to conclude that everything that’s gone wrong is because of Martin and everything that has gone right is in spite of Martin, you might want to sit things out for a while.

I wonder if he had a clause in his original contract that he'd get an extension if he had an international callup? Timing is quite suggestive

I don’t think clubs would saddle themselves with that kind of commitment off the back of a single international call up. I very much doubt the two are related.

It's what we're seeing. It's a Strachan term for possession football with no obvious plan for what to do with all the possession. It's really not the last 2 weeks, and the talk of spill over is really tiresome, and simply wrong. RM has had long enough to put his stamp on things. If his way was good enough, and he was coaching it properly, and the players were buying it, we'd be doing well. At least one of those ingredients is missing.

That hasn’t been the case though. Prior to Sunderland we were creating chances and scoring. Obviously confidence has drained following that. As I said. remains to be seen if it’s a blip or not. But rubbishing everything about the season and RM is not proportionate IMO.

I've got no interest in what he says, or what people think about what he says. I'm only interested in what happens on the pitch. It's perfectly understandable though that people pull apart his off field propaganda though given the dire propaganda football on it.

I don’t know what propaganda football is. RM has always played the same the way as a manager. He was hired to play that way and is trying to deliver it. Yes, the last 2 weeks of football have been awful. Remains to be seen if that’s a blip that will be forgotten pretty quickly or not. But the animosity on here is OTT. I get it’s a spill over from how bad we’ve been for the last 2 seasons. But that isn’t RM’s fault.

  9. Hopefully the knock to Adam Armstrong will help RM clear up the mess of one his mistakes in this game at least.  Making him captain and shoehorning him into one of 3 central midfielders doesn't work. He doesn't make the first 11 in my book. He's better off the bench for high pressing, high energy impact. Martin has made it difficult to restrict him to that role.

  10. Martin’s not going to change his approach a great deal so it’s really whether the players can implement quickly enough. Conceding 9 goals in two games at this level is ridiculous, clearly. But I do think he’s been unfortunate with timing. The Sunderland game was only hours after the close of the transfer window. There have been key injuries meaning we don’t have a settled defence. There hasn’t been much time on the training ground due to the international break and frequency of games.

But he could help himself immediately by sacrificing an 8 for someone who will hold. We’ve had no defensive minded midfield player for the last two games. It feels like recklessness over high risk/high reward. I actually think his slightly OTT public praise of AA is becoming a problem as he basically has to start him for the foreseeable, limiting options of firming up the midfield.

We are not Burnley and Martin is not Kompany

No doubt though that had we made a similar start to Burnley with Kompany as the manager, the squealing on here would be rife. Wonder how long before the first Kompany out posts appear on the Burnley forums after their tactically inept start to the premier league campaign?

I agree with what you're saying but Russell Martin doesn't do defensive tactics. He never has done as said by supporters of his previous clubs. This is why he is described as infuriating. He doesn't care about the defence.

I'm sure Swansea (winless) and MK Dons (relegated) fans are really happy he left.

Schmeichel would be a great shout...wages probably not too bad and Bazunu at least has a decent keeper to learn from

He is useless playing out from the back and therefore never going to be an option here.

  14. Jesus, state of this place today. Crumb of comfort is that we’re 3 points off top, won’t be playing yesterdays 11 again and have shown we can play a shit load better than yesterday. It was a car crash of a game, but it happens, especially conceding so early. Writing off the manager and the season because of it is a tad OTT.

  15. Flexibility seems key to Martin. Assuming he won't want to be using Bree too much if he doesn't leave, wouldn't be all that surprising to be bringing in Johnson regardless of KWP. That said, wouldn't be surprising for someone to come in for KWP either.

or offloading KWP and understudying Bree!

We just signed Abu, another 19 year old right back. Seems strange to be looking for another. I guess Abu might only be seen as a U21 team player and this lad first team already.

Similar to what Martin said about Perraud, I can’t see Bree playing being first choice fullback. More likely that we would want to shift Bree

If we want £30m for Sulemena, do you think there is any chance Everton get close to that? The supposed £22m verbal offer seems a long way short of £30m.

Seems unlikely- would they actually be able to structure the deal in an agreeable way even if overall valuation is met?

I think it's 60/40 in favour of Sulemana being here at the close of the window. He's valued too highly relative to what he has done. But he does have pace and attributes that prem teams would want.
