  1. Recently got myself a pair of suede Sebago Docksiders and a lightweight Barbour Grassdale for early season . I already have a Barbour Trooper Waxed for the winter and was toying with getting a Belstaff as well but have instead decided to get a Crombie Cashmere coat instead. Oh yeah just bought a couple of pairs of Clarks nubuck Desert Boots using the very handy 20% voucher code they sent me.........

  2. I'm of that ilk, and not at all gutted. Embarrassed, yes, but not gutted.

Im of that ilk too. Its been cringeworthy. Ive been working and earning a fortune. While my dumbass neighbours have been having washed out barbecues and the like.

  3. I claimed back £7,000 from my two loans so it was well worth spending an hour reading up on it from that moneysavingexpert website, then half an hour filling out the forms.

Same. Although I used the very similar CAG Forum. Just amended the various template letters and I got the money back pretty quick. This was about two years ago though.

Apparently now everyone knows about it though it can take a very long time and the paying out companies have become wiser and have started using stalling tactics.

  4. Does the Saints Trust still exist? It's still listed as a member organisation of Supporters Direct on the SD website and would be going to the SD AGM in June, one assumes if they still are in existance? Can they ask questions about this ridiculous appointment?

    Did it ever really exist..............?

  5. This may be an utterly subjective, pointless argument, but it's one I'm prepared to have. That's insipid and gutless, and (to these ears) relies for its justification on the notion that the faux-authenticity of the folk-rock scene is excuse enough for its (the tune's and the scene's) creative retardation.

And the idea that "the very best music and lyrics always work in any style", mentioned above, is just patent nonsense. The very best music and/or lyrics are a marriage of form and function, of style and intent. A good musician will have found what they consider to be the best musical/lyrical form to represent their vision for the song. Sometimes another artist can take a piece and recontextualise it, adding something in the process. Sometimes an musician can cover a tune in the same style as the original, in the hope that an audience will put up with a slightly inferior version for want of the original.

This version, in common with those execrable 'Live Lounge' things they do on the radio, works from the beige premise that songs should be stripped of their excitement and set instead to a backing of humdrum strum-along, in order to prove the quality of the songcraft. The whole notion is balls.

This idea that a great song should work in any style is akin to suggesting that a great novel must work as a film, or a poem should work as a play. The one does not follow the other.

    Superb post.

  6. until about 3 months ago i had never heard of this company, now the name pops up all over the place.

Its just DHL rebranded. A couple of months ago there were videos posted on youtube of Yodel/Dhl staff throwing parcels around in thier depot. I think you will find most of their drivers are self employed now as well.
