“Shifting deadwood” is a skilful and delicate manoeuvre and one not really fully understood by most fans.

fuck me you are full of shyte. Someone with knowledge of history surely knows Sheffield United were terrible on 16 points and Burnley not much better on 24. They weren't disasters of a relegation season, no?
Thanks for telling me what I am full of.
Sheffield’s total was 25% better than ours and Burnley’s 50%. That would suggest that while not good, both were quite a bit better than we have ended up with this season. You can stay in the denial zone if you want, but I hope whoever takes us over has a better grasp of our predicament than you. That is we were very close to becoming the worst team in the PL history and have also just gone through our most dire season in the 140 years of our existence. To solve a problem you have to understand how serious it is. Anything else is just sticking your head in the sand.-

We have 5 very ordinary strikers on our hands. Onuachu, Archer, Armstrong, Brereton- Diaz and Stewart. The first four have all been tried in the PL and failed so I am hoping if Stewart can stay fit he will be the best of a bad bunch.
What a mess.-

Started nervously then realised they could actually play and the first half was surprisingly decent.
For once the midfield wasn't completely overrun. That made a huge difference and they seemed to have more space and time.
2nd half it fell apart a bit, but I'm not too despondent, that's been a feature of the season, so no surprise it happened against Liverpool.
We'll be relegated in 2 or 3 games, so at this stage avoiding a drubbing is about as good as it gets.
This is the worry. We are all being slowly programmed to accept garbage as the norm.

It’s quite something that it looks like our two most potent and first choice strikers are two players Russell Martin would have quite happily sold for peanuts.
The lesson for me is don’t write players off until you’ve had a long look and given them a decent run in the team. Danso another one we messed around. Hope SAA is not another. -
Seriously worried now that whoever is making football decisions hasn’t a clue.
SAA is a very promising player who hasn’t been given a fair crack of the whip. Unless someone knows something this does not add up to a sensible move.-

He used to play alongside Glenn Cockerill so he's not completely naive to the world of football.
Not quite true. Cockerill was manager of Woking and released PP as a youngster

We may be down and out but at the very least we should be in the market for a striker with Brereton out on loan, Archer potentially off and Ross Stewart well who knows?
Lack of goals is a glaringly obvious problem that needs fixing before the summer. -
THB a ‘crown jewel’?
Not in my book.
Look at our goals conceded. Obviously not all his fault but for me he has been disappointing.-

Relative though, isn't it. The season we got relegated from the Championship was worse, despite the fact we finished with 45 points. The day we lost at home to Forest 2-0 with multiple fights breaking out between Saints fans in the stands was the absolute low point of supporting the club for me.
No the fans were fighting because of the sudden relegation and don’t forget we were very potless back then. This is by far the most inept season in the club’s history in terms of results on the pitch and inept management.

Bringing MLT back into the St Mary’s fold is just another stupid decision by those running the club. Great player but a fucking idiot.

If I had a choice who to pick vs Newcastle, Brereton or Armstrong I would go for the former. Armstrong has been given plenty of chances but not Brereton. Just look how suddenly Sulemana has come into his own.
sometimes players just have to be given a hand around the shoulders and a bit of a boost by a manager.-

We agreed a fee for Delap and he turned us down. We’ve gone big for him for quite a few years now. Everytime we did this place had a meltdown over our attempts to go big for him. So don’t talk shite.
One minute you call out most on here and then you are using their opinion of Delap to justify your opinion. Hmm.

We have a lot of players who “need” to score a goal. Archer, BBD, AA and Stewart ie all
our forwards.

Have I missed much - had to sort out stuff with my 87 year old Dad to about half time - then 3 year old grandson took over on my time - just seen bits on here that hint at could do much better.
Seeing what we signed this summer, there was no danger of me holding my breath.
My decision to walk away after 45 years gets easier by the week - yes Wembley was fun last season but we were never convincing the rest of last season.
I tip my cap to those of you who go this season.
Yep you were right. A positive first half hour followed by capitulation and ineptitude. Pretty shoddy. Martin is not a PL manager. Yes he is a great bloke etc etc but tactically clueless. The penalty fiasco also points to an amateur and confused strategy. United are not the United of old. A half decent team would have beaten them. No point in delaying the inevitable. Get rid of the manager. Potter is available.

I don’t think any reasonable fan is calling for RM’s head right now but something has got to give because already, we’ve got into a routine of giving goals away through an inability to avoid giving the ball away, while complying with the manager’s instructions. Something has to give and if it’s not Martin’s position then he must develop a more flexible attitude.

Why blame SR? This habit of making SR the fall guy is absurd. They've poured money this window and strengthened us beyond expectations. They've invested more than any owners in our history, except perhaps Markus. Time they got a little credit.
They’ve put money in but not much intelligence. Why chase a keeper who has missed 190 games in 6 years for instance?

I don’t think there is a problem. Just some dimwits excited because they think their scapegoat is back. Two games in transfer window still open and the bedwetting has kicked in already.
So you are a big fan of Ankerson then and rated what he did for us last time he got involved in our transfer activity?

“Ship out the dead wood” is such a glib phrase and a lot easier to say than actually achieve.
