  1. If Freddy Adu leaves Benfica for League One, I will wear a P*mpey shirt for a year without taking it off.

Yeah, maybe aiming a shade high. Just think a good year for a decent club in CCC would be the perfect stepping stone for him. One step backwards to go many forwards. His wonderful talent and good attitude is in the cr@pper right now Benfica - Monaco - Belenenses all in abot the last 15 minutes...nipper ain't 'ad a chance, as we would say. Saints are famous for nurturing talent!!

  2. Realize that I may get crucified for this one - anti-American stuff and the like, just feel it's still worth mentioning/debating.

This kid has everything ('cept size and experience). He is very SWPish. His main problems have been being in too big a theatre - too early. Freddie is strong as an ox, fast as quicksilver, he has superb feet both left and right. He scores - he creates. Above all, he is a hamble lad with a fantastic attitude - a good person. What he needs is a chance at the right level to afford him the opportunity to grow (Saints next season in CCC for e.g.).

If he goes to 'Ull he'll be another good young talent lost in that horrible mire. Altidore is a good talent (not as good as Adu) and he is totally lost playing on Humberside.

    Freddie .v. our Bart

  3. This is absolutely one of the best possible draws we could, a team (in realistic terms) only a few very small steps above us. At home as well. I also feel whereas Sunderland players responded (only initially) to that horrible tvvat Keane's bullying, threatening, sombre, over-bearing, intimidating and negative nature, Ipswich players seem to have thoroughly rejected his awful methodology...which hopefully will work in Southampton's favour.

Trouble, for me personally, is I will now have a an emotional involvement above and beyond just wanting Saints to win - which will make it all the more sweet when we win, but cannot even consider losing this one.

Yes, the Irishman was a very good talent, however he is as far from anything that could be considered a 'good person' as you could imagine around football anyway. His criminal, revenge foul that time is possibly, if not probably the worst thing I've seen in football when you realise it was 100% pre-meditated and then added to that Keane's total lack of remorse.

Ipswich is a great club, with a lot of good people and and some good fans. They just made the most unforgivable decision hiring the volatile ex-Celtic/United thug.

    We'll win - he'll get fired.

  4. To be fair, I quite like the Danny Wallace picture, it is supposed to be a characature afterall. Better than I could do! I've had a a couple of goes myself to do Danny but I find the hands the most difficult...

..still you all have to admit the one of Iain Dowie (bottom left) isn't bad.

Robbie, I am proud of you mate :-)

Keep trying, you'll get even better...as you say Dowie ain't half bad FFS

  5. 1. Getting our first points.

    2. Getting our first win

    3. Getting out of the negative

    4. Getting off the bottom

    5. Getting out of the relegation zone

    6. Getting into the top half

But my favourite so far Getting within SEVEN points of 'that special place which we won't mention' and still 23 chance of improvement!!

  6. tim...

did you cheer when saints scored..?

We went mental...tbf most of their boys were on the North terrace. Mostly round us were kinda regular suppoter types, they were quiet a few 'scummer' and 'why can't it be Halifax, Rochdale or anybody but this lot' style comments, but no real hostility. Most of the Frontline boys ain't that easily intimidated either.

  7. Was there that day...oh the memories...:D

Remember an interesting escorted walk along Goldsmith Rd to Fratton station after!

Every road we crossed was sealed off by police and bricks, bottles and fireworks were abundant.

    What a day.

One of the best days ever to be a Saints fan. Actually watched the game from the fartton end (as you can see by my avatar). As the Saints allocation sold quick, a bunch of us 'Frontline' Saints got our tickets at pompee. On the match day there was a bunch of us in there, another group of lads off the boats/ferries that could only get tickets at fp and also a fairly sizable group up in the top corner of the fe.

Biley's header landed really close to our group and watching Moran's winner was almost like watching it in slow motion - it was innevitable and inspiring!!

  8. Saints win 3-1 - now there's a surprise ;-) Us conceding in the last quarter of the match - Now there's a surprise ;-) You lot giving magnificent support with yet another massive home gate - Now there's a surprise ;-)

Truthfully the only 'real' surprise was the goals source, especially the first two not coming from Lambo or DC. 7pts FFS

  9. if there is a similar thread sorry, mine is biley at fratton 1984 just before moran scored

    15 secs in classic

Just look at that sea of Saints behind the goal...you younger ones cherish it as you'll never live t'see sights like that inside a stadium again.

  10. I always think of Roy Keane, going into the Manchester Derby deciding he was going to end Alf Inge Haaland's career. 5 match ban (he'd have gotten 3 anyway for the straight red) and fined all of 4 day's wages.

Off the subject of Saints I know, however if that basically criminal act of that mentally unstable Irishman had a just punishment (especially if a Saint was the victim) then I truly believe it should been a bit more like this (below).

Yes Mr Keane we are going to give you a five match ban and a fine of four days wages - here's the punchline, the punishment will commence when you victim returns to full fitness and has played a month of first team football. Until such time you're banned sine die, with no RIGHTS OF appeal. END OF.

  11. Enjoyed the interview Tim, liked the bit about his first day at Chester and the sandwiches that went missing.

It was also interesting that his heading ability only came to the fore after arriving at The Dell, he suggests that without Paine and Sydenham he may never have become the player he did.

So true mate, also the vision and foresight of Ted Bates!! Merry Chrimbo.

  12. Thanks in large part to many of you, the Big fella is doing famously now. A 180 degree turn around from a month or so ago. It is really rewarding to see.

Starting to do some art again has been a huge shot in the arm and you guys sharing good spirits and care with him has helped visibly lift him.

For the first time in years he is actually considering a return to Southampton, due totally to the invitations made to him by Saints fans. This is real progress.

He cracked me up the other day (as he often does). He mentioned watching the sailor boys game where they beat Liverpool 2-0, it was televised nationally here on ESPN.

His whole synopsis on the match was as follows, I quote "I can see why pompee are in so much trouble." Followed up by "Liverpool are shocking!" I guess it might not 'read' as well as it sounded, but believe me, coming from Ron - the way he said it was hilarious!!

Not trying to belabour this, but if you have not heard this excellent interview with Ron I recommend it, you can clearly hear how much more upbeat he is. http://www.epltalk.com/ron-davies-interview-epl-talk-podcast/13835

    Have a Cool Yule everyone!!

  13. What decent players have the two clubs bought through their ranks? What have I missed got wrong?

    SAINTS....................................POMPEY

I played against Vince Hilaire back in the early 70s and he was from London and started with Crippled Palarse not the sailor boys...

  14. Despite the veiled references I'm uncertain as to who Oxlade-Chamberlain is actually playing for, us presumably ?

As for double barrelled names do David F'kin-McGoldrick, or Callum Bastard-Davenport count ?

FAF...yeah, the kid is a 1st year scholar with Saints.

  15. Only seen him on the cricket pitch Tim,he's a very good batsman and a lovely lad too...always smiling.Very popular with us at Locks Heath.

Who was the last double barrelled name player for Saints? Forbes Phillipson-Masters?

Mac - hmm, Locksheath, part of my old manor FFS and you're both Saints, in that case you both must be top boys
