  1. Remember the 9-3 game well and Dave Maclaren's heroics in goal during the game. Bizarre game...behind after 30 seconds to a Tony Knapp own goal skidding off his crew cut...5 -2 up at half time and the scoring completed with half an hour still to play. Indeed if it hadn't been for Dave's great shot stopping 12 - 3 could easily have been the final score.

Bit of a whipping boy in a season we conceeded a bucket-full of goals. RIP.

  2. Difficult to believe it's now 20 years since I saw him at The Wedgewood Rooms. I never buy tour T shirts...but I did for this gig. It's still in the bottom of a drawer, folded and unworn...convinced he was destined for greatness. :?

5.30...still makes my hair stand on end.

Well, I've just completed writing my first book. Ron Saunders the final chapter. 'Played Up #Pompey' out in October.

Breaking News! The publisher has just gone into administration and the book will now appear as a 3 page pamphlet.:)

  4. Waving the banner high AGAIN for Sweet Billy Pilgrim's new album "Motorcade Amnesiac" which, like their previous 3 albums has received great reviews followed no doubt by general apathy.

Released today and will no doubt disappear without trace...it's f**kin' brilliant. Hey ho.

  5. Out of last summer's exiles which, if any had a good season? I think they've all done us a favour in underlining the old adage...the grass isn't always greener.

I don't think any of our top end performers are nailed-on exit candidates. Will any of the top four be be prepared to match our asking price after last season...we don't sell cheap.

  6. I think you're overstating the weight of footballs in the '70s. We were playing with plastic coated leather balls in the early '70s that didn't pick up water on heavy grounds. The state of pitches were the major factor before the '80s and The Dell was typical of many top flight pitches...poor drainage and reserve team games didn't give the groundsman a chance of preparing a good surface to play on.

Having said that the quality/entertainment provided by Saints throughout my life has always been good. There's always a tingle of expectation when you take your seat for a Saints game.:p

I don't think it matters if today's football is technically better...not an issue for me.

  7. Going to Oz week after next and he is playing the Opera House whilst we are there. Thought it might be a good way to see it in all it's glory.

Well KRG's either halfway through Sufjan's Friday gig...gearing up for tomorrow's or kicking his heels waiting for the Sunday show.

In depth review kind sir. :)
