  1. Has anyone compared our record while Paul Mitchell was here with our record after he left?

The obvious implication behind that question is that the mythical "Black Box" was actually Mitchell's head, and that he was making Reed look far better than he really is. And that went for both player and manager signings.

At the very least, both while Mitchell was here and after he left, Reed seems to have grossly mismanaged relationships with both players and managers.

He might be good at managing his relationship with Ralph and the owners, but the dressing room and the pitch are much harsher judges.

Spot on. The successful journey was developed by Paul Mitchell, the players identified just before RK arrived, lined up by PM (with the exception of Pelle). Les Reed surfed that wave, sold most of those players and Ross Wilson has failed to deliver on most of the subsequent signings.

  2. With regret MPoe is clearly not good enough. However the root cause of the demise goes back to the departure of Paul Mitchell and the fact his replacement Ross Wilson is equally as hopeless as MPoe.He has failed to identify anyone player of true talent with the exception of VVD,who was arguably on the watchlist before Wilson was appointed. Mitchell was the guy with the Midas touch, who created the black box and who carefully carried out the assessment and due diligence 'process' as Reed would describe it.

A clear out is necessary, and we need to accept the time has come for a complete rebuild. Keep Kelvin Davis & the backroom staff engine but Manager , coaches and Ross Wilson need to be moved on. Time to steady the ship, supporters need to reset expectations. Perhaps Adkins or Pardew, an attempt to re sign Mitchell after he was bullied out of Spurs. I predict a slippery slope similar to the post Strachan era. A revolution not evolution. COYR.

  3. I'm no different to any Saints fan out here.....even Heisenberg:lol:....I want to see us challenging at the top, maybe winning trophies and keeping hold of all our star players.

However i like to think that after over 40 years of supporting Saints and just being a football fan in general i have a realistic view of football and what most owners of clubs want or are prepared to accept.

Marcus took over a club that was worth very little and between he and now Kat has turned it into a well run club with assets worth absolutely millions more than they inherited...by anyones standards that is success.

We have had seasons of success upon success and now find ourselves in that group of about 6 clubs potentially challenging for a European spot each season.

Personally i think most owners of a football club would take this story of success and financial security every day of the week......football fans have a different outlook, they want all of the above and to be winning trophies and qualifying for Europe every season....(take Arsenal fans for an example, fantastic success under Wenger and yet they really are a bunch of miserable gits wanting more and more)

I think most owners of clubs go into every season with the ambition to do well and improve on the previous season and if luck is on their side have a decent cup run....and if luck really is on their side a cup final....however i honestly don't think the majority care about a cup.....they care about survival, not making a huge loss and hopefully having one or two players that have a blinding season that increases their stock value.....This is a business to the owners of clubs, nothing more nothing less (i accept there are a few insanely rich owners that care not about losing money providing they can buy a title)

Whatever the football fans will still turn up to games....especially if you continue to be a top flight club....yes u may lose a few but in general we love our sport and love our club.

As we go into 2017 accept that football is a business and unless we get taken over by an insanely rich owner we will continue to be a decent top flight club that will sometimes get some great results and might get lucky to get a good cup run but we will never challenge the top 4 and unlikely challenge the top 6....a one off like Leicester is all we can dream about.

Have a good 2017 all Saints fans including you Heisenberg....relax more.

Good well balanced note BS. Time for some folk to wake up and smell reality, challenging for top 6 and a decent cup run is where the club is at.

  4. Public poll added, nail your colours to the mast. On balance I think he is doing an 7/10 job, too soon to pull the trigger.

Spot on, give the guy a chance, 8th & SF of League Cup. He inherited a squad minus 3 key players from the previous 2 seasons & one suspects has chosen to align with the clubs strategy of pushing youth through whilst allowing players such as CA,SL & JR the opportunity to step into Graziano shoes before buying someone else whom is unlikely to deliver better.

  5. I'm starting to wish the bloody football season had never started.....we really do have a handful (and thankfully it is only a handful) of complete and utter W**kers on this forum. Complain,complain,complain,*****,*****,*****.....if all you can do is moan and ***** about everything the club does then do us all a favour and f*ck off and support Pompey.

I couldnt have articulated it more eloquently Barcelonasaint....a vast number of over expectant

  6. If there is truth in this, and there reappears to be a gradual snowballing of media meddling and discussion to suggest there is, particularly if you consider Vic's use of twitter to deny previous events, then Les Reed & Koeman must be too detached from the players to understand player views, behaviours & attitude. I remain reserved over Vic's intentions, but if he should leave then our intelligence on the attitudes of the squad is **** poor and my confidence in Les Reed shot to pieces......

  7. Saints need to get a backbone just like Everton and WBA have done. Trouble with Saints they are too nice and get trampled on by players, other clubs and agents. Got to get tough with these mercenaries.

This.......'quite frankly if this true, Vic, your attitude appalls me. It's not what you're saying. It's all this stuff you're not saying. Insinnuendos'

  8. this is where we will lose out to everton.

Les reed will make a statement to the echo about how celtic led us up the garden path, VvD gave all the signs that he wanted to come here but then changed his mind at the last minute.

we will be reminded that we do not do any transfers in the media and that we buy the right players for the club

VvD will then be rated as average at best by the majority of saintsweb and the club praised and how could we compete with everton ffs.

the following week there will be talk about us winning the europa league and/or go for the champions league....

......or something along those lines, maybe

    Inspirational.........twit...

  9. Attempting to introduce a note of realism, Father Time will tell all, if Saints are still in the Prem and consolidated within such, say five or so years from now employing the same "showcase club" philosophy then arguably it's bucked football history and worked. However, there are cynics among us who might say "showcase club" is merely bandying semantics, indeed camouflage, when to all intent and purpose it means the Saints will remain a "selling club".

Maybe so, but as Connor clearly states, only to the top 4/6 clubs. We seem to have bridged the gap with the likes of Everton, Newcastle etc. The club needs to consolidate itself as a top 8 club for a sustainable period, in pursuit of evolving the ongoing growth, if we do that for the next 5 years with a good run for a European spot & cup runs, then that experience, development and potential domestic cup success should help the club become more attractive to players such as Jordy Clasie........time will tell.

    Good article Connor.

  10. Absolute steel if we pull this off for the rumoured £10m........check out scout nation on you tube......this guy has great vision, positional awareness, tenacity and passing ability.....and just 24 yrs old........#Awesomesigning#WeMarchOn

  11. What a surprise (not)

Why bother to take him on pre season ? It was perfectly obvious that HE would not risk himself playing whilst he was/is negotiating his transfer

Anybody care to deny he's going ??

Spreading your positivity & optimism once again...........#WeMarchOn..........hopefully without SR....

  12. Suspect we're surprise most people by finishing top 8, despite the high profile departures. Would'nt take much notice of the Salzberg warm ups, most of the first Team has just returned. Jay & Sadio could form a prolific partnership, dependant on RK's Team strategy........hoping for a reputable CB signing.......judgement day by Norwich @ home.....#WeMarchOn

  13. Surprise Surprise

    Why bother to take him

No way was he ever going to play in a match and risk a transfer threatening injury

Just put a "For Sale" notice up outside the players entrance and get on with it

Everyone who's shelled out hard earnt money on a ST can moan about it during the season

Your life must be a ball of fun........have you ever dared to be positive or optimistic about anything in what appears to be your rather depressing life?

  14. Wanyama was a beast again' date=' but with silky touches today. RESULT![/quote']

    St'Marys rocked today.

Big Vic absolutely immense, Jimmy Ward Prowse finding lots of space and coming close on two occasions. Florin came in and looked class. Lets hope the club are doing all they can to sign up Toby and Ryan before we loose them.

"And we've still got Jay on the bench"!
