  1. Looking at what we know, what’s anticipated and the timescales forget about being in a full stadium much before the 2021/22 season. Then in order to accommodate social distancing stadium capacities may be halved.

By then in the absence of a vaccine you can send your avatar to the match and watch virtually

  2. Tracking behind? What does that mean really, you don't seem to be bringing your infection rate down anywhere near enough, isn't that what Mr Raab has just said?

The infection rate will only comedown once R1 it continues to increase

The lockdown has brought thefigure down from 2.6 to now just under 1 if true that is good progress from where I sit!

  3. Whilst I would usually be against Govt not being open there is an argument for not being specific about exit strategy for as long as possible.

If Govt comes out and says lockdown is for another 6 weeks then idiots will think sod that, I can't handle it and start going out again. If they announce it is over in a week then same idiots will think sod that, it is over soon so I may as well go out now anyway.

Quite right the other argument is watch what the countries ahead of us do and use their results as guidance

  4. “far from perfect” is quite an understatement. We deliberately followed a policy that was different from most others. It was the ‘sit back and do nothing’ policy. Whilst others were closing bars, restaurants and schools we were being taught how to was our hands.

We only shut down to ensure we have NHS capacity that is what reduces deaths in the absence of a vaccine

So shutting down too early only stores up more problems for later. Shutting down is not a solution in itself it is only a delay tactic to smooth the curve push it out and buy time. As was stated earlier timing of a shutdown is very difficult as it involves a number of contradictory different factors that are very specific to each country and need to be optimised not least of which are appetite Of the population and social problems resulting from too lengthy a lockdown, versus economic impact On the population of a shutdown etc

And are based on specific models produced by top scientists and health experts.

The truth is that In the absence of a vaccine the only way out of this mess is for enough people to get it and come through. Otherwise you just get more waves particularly as many other countries with poor health services will continue to incubate the virus.

The only other alternative is to eradicate it through testing and tracing once it is reduced in the UK and close our borders forever

Not really a credible solution given the amount of globalisation the world depends upon.

There is Also little point in comparing cases and deaths between different countries given the large number of different factors that exist

Such as size of population, number of tests, strategy for testing, numbers of old and vulnerable people, population densities Different healthcare setups and capabilities different measuring techniques etc.

If we go on face value figures Iran is better than the UK ( not sure anyone would believe that)

We have succeeded so far in the main aim of growing the ICU’s and ensuring the NHS can treat all without getting overwhelmed and that was the principal aim!

  5. Last night was another example of VAR doing its job correctly, under the rules that is a handball.

The issue is the rules are too pedantic, accidental handball needs to be considered as such (although even an accidental handball shouldn’t be allowed to give you an advantage), and if you are getting frustrated at the very narrow offsides, then it’s the offside law you want to change, not VAR.

This is correct it is the ability of technology to allow the existing rules to be applied in minute detail when pitch referees would always not give a decision where any doubt existed.

This can be sorted by amending the rules for example ensure offside is only given where there is clear daylight between defender and attacker any body overlap is onside.

I would alo give each captain two or three appeal rights on referees goal or penalty decisions and in these cases the pitch referee reviews the footage.

I would only leave violent play sending offs to an off pitch referee who can inform the on pitch one of any missed incidents.

This I think would better combine VAR with the game we know and love.

  6. Valery for the disinterested Cedric

Long for Obafemi (him and Boufal coming on changed the game both yesterday and at Arsenal we nood his running commitment and the fact he can hold up a ball up front)

    Boufal for Redmond

    Yoshida for Stephens

  7. Not only was he successful, but the way we played the players he signed, & the nippers he played , gave me the greatest years of my football life. I’ve never given a flying fig, that he left, couldn’t care less whether he had his hand in the till, and don’t particularly care what anyone else thinks. He could have shot bambi for all I care, those years gave him a free pass from me. He’s a ****ing legend. End of.

Couldnt agree more we live in a ridiculous age where people go out of their way to find reasons for themselves or others to be offended

Lawrie Mac made Southampton in the 70 he played good football with relatively meagre resources and he got some of the best to join Saints who can ever forget us signing Keegan Peter Osgood Alan Ball Charlie George Frank Worthington Dave Watson etc.

Getting Keegan then was like getting Messi today unbelievable for Saints!

He also goot the best out of the yourh such as Moran Williams Holmes Baker Gilchrist and Stokes

To those at the Dell in the 70s Lawrie is always a legend!

  8. You know how it works nowadays....racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia etc are absolutely EVERYWHERE in this country.....

We should have walked off then in accordance with UEFA protocols

This was our best wat out yesterday

  9. Worst game ive seen in over 50 years supporting Saints we played worse than the 8-0 at goodison and the 7-0 At Ellend rd from the 70s and the more recent 7-1 s at Anfield and Goodison

A complete gutless sell out none of those players deserves to where the shirt never mind collect their wages!

  10. A decent point and better than I expected, especially when even VAR was deceived somehow by a player cheating by wrapping his leg around the back of another player and then falling over. That player should hang their head in shame, as should the VAR ref. Nevertheless we are still so slow and predictable in our build up play...we look like a poor Prem team.

On a wider note, I still don’t see the point in JWP...can’t tackle, can’t deliver a decent forward pass (nearly always backwards) and most of his dead ball delivery of late is appalling. He adds so little to the side it’s laughable and I honestly believe we have better in the U-23’s. Gunn is not better than McCartney who may have made a fist of saving the penalty and got lucky with the handball decision because once again he got caught short.

    Didn't know Gunn could sing!

  11. our defeat at spurs was a very bad result, it seems

Yes spurs lost to Colchester and then get walloped by Bayern Munich and Brighton yet we struggle and lose against them when they only have ten men

In retrospect our result looks worse and worse

  12. Bayern Munich just made short Shrift of an 11 man spurs team and defence and clearly showed up our lack of creativity and cutting edge which irrespective of our propensity to give away silly goals is going to be the key issue we need to overcome this year to improve on yet another relegation struggle.

We must not let a 4 -0 drubbing of a poor Pompey side hide the fact that we continue to struggle to create against many not so good but disciplined premiere sides.

  13. We are not a good side but a valuable 3 points to get the season up and running. Romeu and Hojberg (in particular) were garbage.....gave the centre of midfield away to Brighton even with 10 men.

Danso was excellent (played out of position) and JWP was excellent at RB. CBs a liability (as always) but I would have had Boufal and Djanepo on from HT.....they changed the game.

    Adams was abysmal, real shocker.

If we come out of our shell and attack more we have a real threat in BOufal and Djanepo.

Way too slow in our play most of the time.

    Spot on!

  14. What a top guy. No one would ever think to donate a whopping 1% of their salary to charity, no wonder he felt the need to big himself up on social media.

What a very disingenuous reaction to what is now days a very rare positive gesture from rich players. One he did not have to make to a city he is not local to. It is also I would hazard a guess 1% more than you or I have made to Saints foundation! And is a large sum from a Top footballers wage. if every player at the club did that this season it would probably exceed a million quid!

If he wanted self promotion i can think of many other ways in which he could have spent the 30k far more effectively

Well done Yoshi I say you are a star!

  15. Given a chance in the prem...... scores within 5 mins.

Really pleased for him always gave us his best despite going through very difficult family circumstances and seems a genuinely nice bloke!

  16. I take it the tock has followed the tick ?

Well if it is being announced tonight it is another commercial and communication failure following on from the shirts fiasco and the sponsorship deal as assuming it gets announced all the press and everyone else will be asleep
