Of course we would have trading agreements. It used to be the Commonwealth (and still is to a lesser extent) and we now benefit enormously from the EU in terms of business done. And of course, there's GATT and WTO. That's what I'm saying - we can't work on our own, unless you're suggesting we have a little agreement here and a little one there?

I have HUGE pride in my country but I'm smart enough to realise that we can't operate in splendid isolation. We need allies (political and economic) and to think otherwise is just plain daft.

Quite interesting watching the news coverage ATM. Commentators saying that, in the event of a hung parliament, the Liberals will be unwilling to ally themselves with either of the big two so votes on Bills will be cast on an issue by issue basis. So - stagnation whichever way you look at it and an potential inability to do any long-term planning. Not helpful to whichever party ends up 'in power'.
